  • Landlord says we didn't pay rent last year?

Our landlord came to our door and said that we never paid rent for July 2013, which we did. Now it's 8 months later and we don't have a copy of the money order receipt so we can't prove that we paid. They're threatening to seize property to recover what's owed but we don't owe them anything! It's just their word against ours.

I just don't understand because if they really think we didn't pay in July, why didn't we get this notice then? or in August even??

I called the tenants board here and they just said to make a response in writing describing everything that happened and when and give them a copy, which honestly will do nothing to help.

    Anyone have any advice?

  • My landlord won't fix my broken appliances.. What can I do?

I've lived in my current apartment for 4 years, and my landlord is quite strange. In that 4 year stretch I've met her in person a total of 2 times. I mail post-dated cheques to her work address, and usually if there's an issue with the suite, there's a caretaker who lives in the building takes care of it.

3 weeks ago, my 20 year old dishwasher broke. It's REALLY broken and needs replacing. I called her, and she said "Well it sounds like you need a new one. After the weekend I'll look into getting it replaced" So I waited, and nothing happened. Since then, I've probably called and left her 40 voice-mails. She doesn't answer the phone anymore. I only have her cell number and work address. No other means of contacting her.

I thought of just replacing it myself and taking the cost out of rent, but I've heard that withholding even part of your rent is grounds for eviction, she would need to agree to an arrangement like that for it to work.

    What can I do??

  • What should I do with these extra hot dogs?

I have like 8 or 10 hot dogs in the fridge that need to be used soon. They belong to my old roommate who just moved out and I don't particularly like hot dogs.

Does anyone know of a recipe or something to use them up? I don't want to just waste them.. I thought about freezing them but they'd likely just stay there until they became so freezer burnt I threw them out..

  • Is this a legitimate reason to miss work?

I'm the manager at a small cafe. Recently, an employee texted me before her shift started and informed me that she couldn't come in because her boyfriends mom was in the ER. Not wanting to seem insensitive about the mom, I gave her the day off even though it put me in an awkward staffing situation and ended up having to work extra to make up for it.

I guess I would have understood or empathized more if the boyfriends mom didn't have anyone else or something, but the boyfriend was there with her as well.

  • What is your favourite cheesy recipe?

I'm going to a cheese themed potluck tonight. Anyone have any suggestions for dishes I could bring that would be super yum and cheesy? Extra points for things that won't require heating at the party and would be easy to serve etc.

PS I only have aged cheddar and marbled medium cheddar in my fridge =( But if you have an idea that uses other cheese I'd still want to hear it for another time. I LOVE CHEESE.

  • Why doesn't my cat cover his leavings in the litterbox?

My cat is very affectionate and loving. He's such a great cat. However, he never covers up his #1's or #2's in the litterbox. It's gross because in the summer heat it gets disgustingly smelly. I clean his box often but if he uses it while we're at work the house will reek of you-know-what when we get home. Yuck.

I've seen him use it. He does his thing and then steps out of the box. And then its HILARIOUS because he paws at the ground around the box like he's covering it, but since he's not even in the box anymore it's just silly. He's done this as long as I've had him, but he was around 1year when I got him so I'm not sure what he was like as a kitten.

Also, we need to keep about an inch of water plugged in the bottom of the bathtub because if we don't, he'll use that as his box. Only the tub though, it's really strange. Clearly there's some weird litterbox complex going on but is there anything I can do to help him past this? Anyone else with this problem?

  • Do sweet oranges have more calories than bland ones?

Just a thought I had today. It would make sense that they have more sugars, no?

  • Why does my fridge leak onto the floor?

My fridge pees occasionally. I think it happens after a period when the fridge/freezer doors are open for longer than a few seconds. It leaves a puddle on the tile floor of my kitchen. Any idea why, or what I can do to fix it? It's a GE fridge, roughly 15 years old.

In a weird way, I'm sort of hoping it's a costly fix so the landlord will just replace it.

  • What are some interesting ways to prepare fish for a picky eater?

He likes beef, chicken and pork but I'm trying to get him to eat more fish. The only thing he's liked so far is boneless salmon filets crusted in coconut.... Any ideas?

  • Cinnamon Bun Recipes?

Today I made cinnamon buns, but the recipe I used wasn't spectacular and they only turned out ok. Do any of you know of a recipe that you or someone else has made that's really good?

Also, please don't just give me links to internet recipes, I could manage that on my own. I'm looking for recipes that people have actually made or had in their own kitchens and really liked.. Thanks!

  • Cat food choices?

I got my cat when he was about 6 months old, and I asked the previous owner what type of food he has been eating so I wouldn't upset his digestion or anything. He had been eating Whiskas, so that's what i fed him for a while. After a few months though, i started noticing that his poo was VERY SOFT, it was messy to scoop from the litterbox. So since then I've been mixing whiskas with more natural "premium" brand cat foods, Ive been reading labels and looking for foods with less grains and rice and more chicken and meat. The soft poo problem fixed itself, but the issue is that my cat doesnt like the new kibble. he'll always eat the whiskas in his bowl before the other brands. eventually he'll eat it, but after the other. Do you know of a premium cat food that won't make me broke and that your cats like?

  • My computer doesnt boot up?

OK heres the deal. I just moved and ever since, my computer doesnt work. When you push the power button, it sounds normal: fan turns on, led's start blinking, but there isnt any display on the screen and it starts beeping through the internal speaker until you force power off. It's running windows XP and its not an old computer, not sure what's up. It's a Compaq desktop. Any ideas?

  • Heartburn?

I'd never suffered from heartburn in my life until a few weeks ago. Now I get it almost every night around 8PM and lasts either until I go to bed or until I pop some rolaids or whatever. Anyone know what this could be caused from? My diet hasn't really changed, other than I'm eating less of the same stuff as before. Could that be it?
