How to form double bonds in a ring?
I have cyclohexene, and need a way to form it into a benzene ring. The one double bond, obviously, is already in there but what are some ways, or is the best way to create the other two double bonds to form the benzene? Could I simply heat the product to force the double bonds?
1 AnswerChemistry9 years agoBest way to form a benzene ring?
I have to start with 1,3-butadiene and ethene to form a benzene ring, what is the best way to do this?
What I have come up with so far is hydrogenating the two alkenes to form butane and ethane and then reforming them to make hexane. From there I would reform the hexane chain into the cyclohexane right and then dehydrogenate that to make the benzene ring if I'm not mistaken, correct?
Problem is that I don't know how to show that last reaction on paper.
1 AnswerChemistry9 years agoProblem with cooling system?
My car was running hot today, so when I popped the hood and checked things out, my coolant tank was empty. Obviously there is a problem with the system, the real question is what. There are two tubes runnings from the coolant tank, one runs from the tank into a device just in front of the engine, and the other runs from the lid of the tank to absolutely nowhere.
I know very little about cars, but something seems wrong, the one running from the lid of the tank is about 3 inches long, and then looks like it has been cut off, a clean cut. I've never paid attention enough to notice if this is normal, but I suspect that it is not.
Does anybody know what that second tube should be running to, if anything, or how I can have it fixed, or if the car needs to be taken to a shop to be fixed.
2 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs10 years agoCan I have people parking on the street in front of my driveway towed?
People park on the street in front of my driveway in such a manner that it blocks me from coming or going. There is no curb anywhere on the street, and they park right where my driveway meets the road. Is it within my rights to have them towed, or is there another way to go about preventing this from happening?

1 AnswerChemistry1 decade agoWhy is beer not taxed as food?
I noticed on my receipt today that, in Virginia, the beer I bought was taxed with the 5% state sales tax as opposed to the 2.5% food tax. I was just curious as to why beer is not considered food for tax purposes, whereas soft drinks such as Pepsi and Coke, which I never drink with a meal, are taxed with the "food tax?"

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and I was wondering what everybody thinks to be the best beer, or list of beers, to pair with your feast.

I recently went on a run in my neighborhood when a small dog came charging at me barking. The dog followed me for a few blocks before losing interest and turning back to where it came from. However, on the return trip, it came charging at me again, and the owner tried to call it back, but the dog refused to listen. My question is if its legal, or morally right for me to hit the dog to protect myself if it charges at me?
