1 AnswerChemistry8 years agoCalculus question, difficult.?
The radioactive isotope carbon-14 is present in small quantities in all life forms, and it is constantly replenished until the organism dies, after which it decays to stable carbon-12 at a rate proportional to the amount of carbon-14 present, with a half-life of 5588 years. Suppose is the amount of carbon-14 present at time t.
(a) Find the value of the constant k in the differential equation C'= -kC.
(b) In 1988 three teams of scientists found that the Shroud of Turin, which was reputed to be the burial cloth of Jesus, contained about 91 percent of the amount of carbon-14 contained in freshly made cloth of the same material[1]. How old is the Shroud of Turin, according to these data?

3 AnswersMathematics8 years agoUniversity Calculus, coffee cooling question.?
A cup of coffee at 180 degrees is poured into a mug and left in a room at 73 degrees. After 1 minutes, the coffee is 130 degrees. Assume that the differential equation describing Newton's Law of Cooling is (in this case) dT/dt= k(T-73).
What is the temperature of the coffee after 11 minutes?
After how many minutes will the coffee be 100 degrees?
2 AnswersMathematics8 years agoUni calculus, question on bacteria growth.?

A. Find an expression for the number of bacteria after hours.
B. Find the number of bacteria after 6 hours.
C. Find the growth rate after 6 hours.
D. After how many hours will the population reach 30000?
