  • Does changing jobs affect my ability to get a mortgage?

Would changing jobs, even if I did not change my income or leave my area of professional expertise, affect my ability to get a mortgage?

This could be for a second home, rather than a primary residence. I haven't decided that part.

  • How can I buy seafood and be assured it is not from the Gulf Coast?

I want to buy seafood but in spite of assurances of safety, I do not want to buy anything harvested in the Gulf. (The good news for everyone who does not care about the chemicals in the Gulf, more for you at a lower price since I won't be in competition with you.)

  • What is a good name for a classic, swirl-patterned young boy cat?

He is grey with a black swirl pattern. He is wildly energenic when it's time to play and super cozy when it's time to cozy. He's bold, curious and trusting. I know now why people have multiple cats!

  • If NIH has a patent and Baxter has a grant, why are we buying flu vaccine from so many others and not Baxter?

5 companies from which US is buying vaccine: MedImmune, Sanofi-Aventis, CSL, GlaxoSmithKline, Novartis

    copy n paste: http://www.reuters.com/article/GCA-SwineFlu/idUSTR...

    then

    DynCorp/ NIH have U.S. patent No. 5911998

U.S. government health authorities awarded over $1 billion in swine flu vaccine contracts to pharmaceutical companies. Can you guess which company received one of the largest vaccine manufacturing contracts? Baxter Pharmaceuticals, the very same company using ingredients derived in precisely the way described in the patents held jointly by DynCorp and the NIH.

    finally

  • Will medical care get worse for seniors?

The public option may no longer be essential but fifty million new patients (aging babyboomers) are coming into the Medicare system. Can massive rationing of medical services to the elderly be avoided? Joint replacements, even bypass surgeries as luxuries we cannot afford?

  • Is the health care plan losing support on the left?

Salon Magazine's Camille Paglia wrote, "The bureaucracy required to institute and manage a nationalized health system here would be Byzantine beyond belief and would vampirically absorb whatever savings Obama thinks could be made."

  • Fact-based, ugly, yucky question?

With this plan to use a cost versus benefit formula to determine who is worthy of health care; will they factor in sexual orientation? Statistically a homosexual's life expectancy is far below the average, so will government appointees cut costs by limiting the treatments offered to homosexuals?

  • Who is more valuable?

ezekiel j. emanuel or stephen hawking?

Presidential health care adviser Ezekiel Emanuel, brother of White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and chairman of the Department of Bioethics at the Clinical Center at the National Institutes of Health, has argued that independent government boards should decide policy on end-of-life care. He also has defended rationing care more strictly for older people because "allocation [of medical care] by age is not invidious discrimination."

It is in that light that House Republicans warn against draft Section 1233 of the House Democratic health care bill as an area of deep concern.

  • Where did the anti lobbyist administration go?

NY Times: Pressed by industry lobbyists, White House officials on Wednesday assured drug makers that the administration stood by a behind-the-scenes deal to block any Congressional effort to extract cost savings from them beyond an agreed-upon $80 billion.

Drug industry lobbyists reacted with alarm this week to a House health care overhaul measure that would allow the government to negotiate drug prices and demand additional rebates from drug manufacturers.

In response, the industry successfully demanded that the White House explicitly acknowledge for the first time that it had committed to protect drug makers from bearing further costs in the overhaul. The Obama administration had never spelled out the details of the agreement.

  • Is Pelosi a hypocrit?

Pelosi, who promised a new era of ethics enforcement in the House of Representatives, snuck a $25 million gift to her husband, Paul Pelosi, in a $15 billion Water Resources Development Act. The project involved renovating ports in Speaker Pelosi's home base of San Francisco. Pelosi just happens to own apartment buildings near the areas targeted for improvement, and will almost certainly experience a significant boost in property value as a result of Pelosi's earmark. Pelosi found herself in hot water for demanding access to a luxury Air Force jet to ferry the Speaker and her entourage back and forth from San Francisco non-stop, in unprecedented request which was wisely rejected by the Pentagon. And under Pelosi’s leadership, the House ethics process remains essentially shut down – which protects members in both parties from accountability.

And she wants to clean up the private sector, please!

  • Historically what are the elements of fascism?

  • Are we neo-fascists, not in the hyperbole sense, but actually?

As an economic system, fascism is socialism with a capitalist veneer. The word derives from the Roman symbol of collectivism and power: a tied bundle of rods with a protruding ax. In its day (the 1920s and 1930s), fascism was seen as the happy medium between boom-and-bust-prone liberal capitalism, with its alleged class conflict, wasteful competition, and profit-oriented egoism, and revolutionary Marxism, with its violent and socially divisive persecution of the bourgeoisie. Fascism substituted the particularity of nationalism and racialism—“blood and soil”—for the internationalism of both classical liberalism and Marxism.

Is this where we're going? The word has been so misused as to make it seem impossible yet what else can be going on?
