  • Jesus! What is with all the panhandling on Yahoo Answers?

I've been on YA for about 10 minutes and already came across the THIRD question that is doing nothing but begging for money. (Actually, two were directly begging, the third one was asking how to beg for money online) What is with people? I'm generally a liberal person, but I can't believe it is more appealing to someone to beg for money than look for a job. The small company I work for has 4 or 5 open positions that they can't fill because of lack of applicants, and these are really good, decent paying jobs. It seems to me to be the trend in the US that the continually shrinking number of people who work for a living are working harder and harder to support the growing number of people who contribute nothing to society and expect to be supported by others.

  • What do you think of people who say "don't judge me"?

They may as well say, "I'm an idiot and screwed up royally but you must ignore it and not point it out to me. I have news for everyone who says "don't judge me." People are judged every day of their life, on their appearance, actions and words. If you have sleeve tatts or a teardrop, guess what? That hiring manager thinks you're a moron and you stand zero chance of getting the job. If you don't want to be judged, you better hide out in your home and never go out in public. But then people would judge you and call you a weird hermit. So there.

  • Who will Sally Draper catch in a compromising position in this season of Mad Men?

Over the first six seasons of Mad Men, there have been several occasions where little Sally Draper has opened a door to find two adults in a compromising position. Time Magazine likened her experience on the show to "playing a disillusioning game of Let's Make A Deal." She has already caught her father balls-deep in the neighbor lady, her mom and new step-father doing it, and Roger Sterling getting a hummer from Megan's mom in an empty banquet room. Who's left? Maybe little Bobby playing doctor with the little girl next store? Henry's obese mother with a manservant?

  • Don't you think US politics would benefit from a real life Frank Underwood?

(Spoiler alert, some season two surprises discussed) If you watch House of Cards, you know Frank Underwood is a conniving, murderous Congressperson (now VP) who (among other things) has snapped a dog's neck, pushed a reporter in front a subway train and gassed a fellow member of the House. But, you gotta admit, he gets things done. The education bill in season one, closing a major naval base (who needs em?) and manipulating the landscape of DC. Isn't that what we really need to break the gridlock.

  • Is anyone else happy to see North Illinois and Fresno State lose bowl games?

All season long, Fresno State was touted as a BCS bowl team and late in the season NIU was picked to be in a BCS bowl by many "experts." They both played in minor bowls and lost to so-so teams, and I'm glad. No offense to mid-major schools and their fans, but these two teams both played inferior schedules that a mid-to-high level major conference team (think Minnesota, USC, or any number of SEC teams) would have breezed through. They played in bowls where they deserved to be, and still lost. The whole bowl set-up stinks and the coming changes won't make a big difference when it comes to the BCS bowls. How about next season, if everyone remembers NIU and Fresno State and ranks mid-major teams where they belong? Comments please.

  • What would they be charged with?

Two African Americans are in a car accident, neither wearing a seat belt. The cause of the accident was another vehicle being driven by a drunk driver.

The African American driver's head hits the windshield hard and shatters it, resulting in minor cuts and a concussion. The passenger goes through the windshield and is ejected about 50 feet, but survives with some internal injuries and cuts. Would they be charged? If so, what would they be charged with?

    My guesses:

    Driver: Breaking and entering

Passenger: Leaving the scene of an accident

  • Why on Yahoo USA does Yahoo Answers only allow me to see either All English or UK & Ireland questions?

I want to be able to select USA Questions Only like I can usually do, but the only two options in the pull down are All English Questions or UK & Ireland Only. This is my home PC. How can I change this?

  • What do you think of Yahoo's HR policy?

Yahoo CEO Marissa Meyer's newest brainstorm is to force managers to rank their employees on a "bell curve" (most employees fall into the middle or average, maybe 20% excellent and 20% under-performing) and then fire those who are ranked as under achieving. I have no connection to Yahoo, but it strikes me as ingenuous at best that a supposedly "hot shot" woman manager has turned to an outmoded management practice that has been proven to be completely ineffective, but yet instills fear and disloyalty among employees.

  • Does anyone else think the new Yahoo Answers format sucks a big fat one?

I want to see how many points I have, which now requires another screen. Also, how do you report a question? Maybe I'm just missing it but I haven't seen the link for that show up with questions. Whoever designed this is not someone who used Yahoo Answers.

  • If you have a Yahoo character as an icon do you really look like it?

I am not a turtle but I'm curious. My suspicion is that most female Yahoo character icons with cute short hair are really grossly overweight housewives.

  • Who else thinks there are too many bowl games?

There are 35 college bowl games with 70 teams competing. Out of those 70 teams, 15 have a 7-5 record, 12 have a 6-6 record and one (Georgia Tech) has the dubious distinction of being sub .500 at 6-7. That means 40% of the teams in bowls have a 7-5 record or less. I'd like to hear others opinions, but I think it's silly to have mediocre teams playing in bowl games. Basically, fans who get coerced to travel to these games to show their college pride are paying for their team to be able to practice an extra 3-4 weeks. Please don't argue that charities benefit from bowl games because a tiny sliver ($3 million spread over all the games) is given to charity. Yet the guys who head up the bowl committees make as much as a half million bucks in salary to manage a 4 hour event. Grand prize for best answer is a trip to the Little Ceasars Pizza Bowl in sunny Detroit on 12/26, to see Central Michigan (6-6) take on western Kentucky (7-5)!

  • Is this why there are so many cons ranting on YA?

It strikes me as interesting that the "hard working" conservatives who claim all liberals do is sit around and collect government largess are the ones who spend all day on Y!A asking ridiculous insulting questions and fantasizing about secession. Don't you people have jobs? Why aren't you working? Do us liberals have to pull all the economic weight in this country while you lay around and complain like dead wood?

fyi, it's 7:37 am where I am and I'll be leaving for work in a few minutes.

  • Do Repubs really buy into the fantasy about democrats?

I see so many people on YA saying things like "Democrats don't work" and "All Democrats are moochers." Mitt Romney paints nearly half the country (47%) as people who are just waiting for a handout so they vote Democrat. My question is, do you idiots really buy into this lie or are you just spouting the party line? I am a Democrat and make six figures, and have employed hundreds of people in various businesses I've owned. Many other successful business people feel the same way - we want social and economic justice, not a country that tries to keep the ultra-rich in power at the expense of the middle class.

  • Is the two-party system really the source of our problems?

Everyone on Y!A Politics seems to lean one way or another, as do I. But increasingly, I am feeling like both A and B are terrible choices. Both parties do nothing but focus on relatively small constituencies that don't represent the vast majority of Americans. Yet we vote for one of them because we consider them the lesser of two evils. I saw a Q&A with some clown about the electoral college and he kept saying it needed to be set up to "protect the two-party system." What kind of BS is that, purposely rigging the system to keep out challengers?

I'm curious about others opinions...Are you really 100% behind Obama or Romney? Do you think a viable (not a wack-job) third party with a realistic platform would help the country? If so, how do you think that could come about?

btw, Y!A Politics is the only section that rocks and rolls on Saturday mornings. The other sections are a bunch of lame *** questions.

  • Splitting Build Out Costs Between Renter and Landlord?

I'm an experienced small business owner, but for the first time I am moving into a rental space that requires some serious build out expenses, for a restaurant. Can anyone give me a feel for which of these items is appropriate and not appropriate to ask for? Of course, I want to minimize the impact on the monthly rent. The place was formerly retail, so a lot of work is needed. Here are some items:

    (a) Run gas line into what will be the kitchen area

    (b) Provide at least one floor drain in kitchen area

    (c) Build two walls to separate kitchen

    (d) re-carpet area that will be dining

    (e) tile restrooms to meet local code

    (f) tile kitchen area (required for rest. code)

    (g) upgrade electric as needed to support needs of the space

I feel at bare minimum that a, b, c, and g should be provided at no impact to the sf lease price and I think d is fair since the place has not been occupied for 5 years. I am already going to have to pop for the exhaust system installation.

Also, if there is anything else you think I can ask for those suggestions are welcome as well.

  • Who else thinks the Manchester United IPO is a crock of?

...U know what? The Glaser family has done nothing but rape and pillage this sports franchise, running up $600 million in debt. Now they issue an overpriced IPO where half the proceeds will pay off debt and the other half go right into the Glaser's pockets. Plus the stock has no voting rights. People complain about how the stock market is rigged and the little guy can't make any money. This is a prime example about how the investment community and government allows investments that are nothing but rip-offs to flourish. Yes, everyone has the right (and obligation) to research the deals they buy into, but (as evidenced by the level of questions asked inYA Investing) many people simply don't know any better. That's how Facebook, Zynga and Man U succeed in lining the pockets of their executives at the expense of the little guy.

I'm curious to learn your opinions.

  • Would you pay just 11 cents more for a pizza to give employees healthcare?

The Papa John CEO is pissing and moaning that the cost of Obamacare will add 11 cents to the price of a pizza. Any rational person would think in the big scheme of things, that paying 11 cents more for a pizza to provide healthcare to employees who can't afford it on their own is a fair trade-off for our society.
