Politics users: How did you treat the latest Yahoo Answers "top `answer-ers [sic]`" poll?
Here are my answers for the first, and only useful, page. What do you think?
Ampersands indicate my selections. "Ordering" questions were done completely at random. Text that is typed below a list of possible answers represents my response to an "other (please specify)" type question. Sorry, folks; it's gonna have to come in updates.
4 AnswersPolitics5 years agoPolitics members: What Olympic sport would you have participated in, had you become an Olympian?
Mine is the biathlon, which combines two of my favorite things: skiing and shooting, both of which I began in earnest at a young age.
You?
3 AnswersPolls & Surveys5 years agoFurther to the question regarding who - among Y!A users - you'd like to take camping... Whom would you take to TRF?
The Texas Renaissance Festival? As a fellow Texan - and fellow Houstonian, no less - my first pick is Lone Star Patriot. Neither of us would have to drive very far. Seriously, Magnolia is not so far, neither is Todd Mission.
Y'all - yes, we say that here - should experience this greatness. Of all campgrounds, there are none so excellent as those which espouse a festival atmosphere. Due to the droughts and wildfires that nearly destroyed the county (Bastrop, IIRC) about 4 years ago, TRF did away with their orchards, and expanded their campgrounds. Potable water and proper restrooms were added.
Whom, among Y!A users, would you take to this fantastic festival?
1 AnswerPolitics5 years agoWhat have you learned about answer ratings in Y!A as a user in its "Politics" section?
I've learned the following:
1) Don't ever ask for a source for any claim made in a loaded question.
2) If you want "upvotes," tell the question's asker what (s)he wants to hear.
3) While adhering to the advice set forth in #2 above, be concise and hateful.
4) Post anonymously. Hyperpartisan idiots are likely "downvoting" you based on name recognition alone.
What have you to add? Thanks!
12 AnswersPolitics5 years agoShould people possess common sense, especially when it comes to being pulled over by a law enforcement officer (LEO)?
Full disclosure: My father was a LEO.
So there's apparently this noise about some female cop shooting someone for reaching inside the vehicle.
Yeah, that's something you don't do. Seems like common sense to me.
Once upon a time in my youth, I was on my way to meet up with a girl I fancied. I was pulled over by a police officer. Rolled down my window, gave (as is required in TX) my license and proof of insurance (no registration necessary; this is not Hollywood - registration is based on license plate and sticker). He goes back to run my info or whatever, and in the meanwhile, I foolishly looked beneath the seats for my cigarettes.
I immediately had a gun pointed directly at me as the LEO screamed at me to show my hands. I nearly s**t myself. I wasn't shot, because I complied immediately with the LEO's orders.
I wasn't shot. I was scared out of my wits, though.
Why did I get off with a warning?
5 AnswersLaw Enforcement & Police5 years agoWhat breed would you recommend for my first dog?
I'm a cat person and always have been, but I'm missing a pup in my life. Every time I visit a friend who has a dog, we're instantly friends. I miss that.
I know that many breeds will get along with my cats (Siamese, and Siamese mix). I can't have some monstrosity that will eat as much as I do, nor do I want something like a chihuahua, which while absolutely adorable, are noisy (and yes, I realize this comes from a guy with two Siamese cats!)
I'm thinking of a beagle or a Jack Russell; I suppose I'm looking for something in the lowest quartile, perhaps in the second-lowest, as regards size. I definitely don't want a dog who's smaller than my cats,
Thoughts?
Thanks!
2 AnswersDogs5 years agoWhat is the next euphemism?
First they were - as per legal definition - "illegal aliens." Then they became "illegal immigrants," then "undocumented immigrants," then "undocumented migrants."
What will be the next euphemism liberals use to describe one of the most important components of their voting base?
4 AnswersRodents5 years agoWould you take a bullet for your President?
I'm no fan of any of the people who have served as Presidents during my lifetime, except perhaps Reagan.
I would take a bullet to save any of them. Even - or perhaps especially - Jimmy Carter, who I could only meet while building houses as part of "Habitat for Humanity."
It's totally weird for me to hear that anyone actually wishes harm or death on Hillary Clinton. How is that remotely human, to wish the death of another?
10 AnswersPolitics5 years agoFollowing Hillary's despicable comments about her opponents belonging in a "basket of deplorables [sic]," is she doubling down on hatred?
The slack-jawed, gibbering lunatics supporting this fainting harridan have done their level best to excuse the execrable behavior and end-of-life sickness of their candidate.
But now, in the wake of her pathetic insults against her opponents, her website takes it up a notch by directly greeting its visitors with an insult.
How do liberals defend this extreme hatred?
9 AnswersPolitics5 years agoHow do liberals explain / defend Hillary Clinton's clear hatred for U.S.-American citizens?
First she calls half of her opposition "deplorables" - as though "deplorable" were a noun - and now her own website offers you one opinion - her insensate hatred of Trump as a person "temperamentally unfit for the presidency."
15 AnswersRodents5 years agoFor the night trolls, a repost: To what extent is Hillary doubling down on hatred?
Hillary insults half of her opposition.
Now her website says that - and I quote - "Donald Trump is temperamentally unfit for the presidency," which updates her "basket" hatred to, well, everyone unwilling to accept her hatred.
7 AnswersPolitics5 years agoLiberals: What say you about your candidate's insult of Trump supporters as "deplorables?"?
Is this Presidential behavior? Or, perhaps, are you OK with such a hateful, bigoted remark?
If you're OK with it, is it because the "values" of hatred, and division, simply work for you in absence of any policy whatever?
Finally, are you OK with your candidate's use of an adjective as a noun? Do you support her despite her incompetence regarding the English language?
5 AnswersPolitics5 years agoIs Hillary doubling down on hatred?
Go to her website and you'll immediately be presented with a pop-up which reads "Donald Trump is temperamentally unfit for the presidency."
The only option - other than an "X" in the top right corner - is to click a button that reads "I agree."
3 AnswersPolitics5 years agoWhy are liberals such thoroughgoing hypocrites?
Obama says Americans are lazy. Hillary says half of Trump's supporters are in a basket of "deplorables [sic]." Liberals have been defending these comments in lockstep.
Trump mentions that some illegal aliens are criminals, and they lose their ****.
Can someone explain this to me?
8 AnswersPolitics5 years agoLiberals: Do you support Hillary Clinton's comment that half of Trump's supporters are "deplorables [sic]?"?
Her deplorable use of the English language aside, how giddy does this make you?
6 AnswersPolitics5 years agoCan no politician make a joke nowadays?
Hillary said her sneezing fit was due to an allergic reaction to Trump. In my opinion, that's fine comedy; she thought on her feet and came up with something almost worthy of a laugh.
People saying that Hillary is seriously ill latched on to this immediately as evidence of some sort of illness. Really?
Y'all sound to me like the fools who thought that President Obama ACTUALLY thinks there are 57 states in the union.
Are politicians not allowed to show a sense of humor anymore?
5 AnswersPolitics5 years agoWill the people demanding that Trump release his tax returns put their money where their mouth is, and release their own?
What are these people hiding? I know they're not running for POTUS - which makes all the more sense that they would comply with what they require of others. What have they got to lose? I mean, it's not like the POTUS is under more scrutiny than the average citizen, or anything.
7 AnswersPolitics5 years agoWhy don't we simply do away with the electoral college and go to a popular vote?
If we in Y!A can agree on one thing, it's that the electoral college is crap. Let's stop talking about fixing something inherently broken, abolish it, and have truly democratic elections reflecting the will of the people?
