  • What percentage of a nationality must you be in order to mark it on an official document?

    ...such as an application for a scholarship, a school, etc...

    Since I am 25% of one [general] background & nearly 75% of another, can I still mark the 25%? or only the 75%?

    Thanks!

  • Are augmented sixth chords always in minor?

    It seems like they are. It makes sense to me that they would be, in order to get that augmented sixth interval (having, often, a flat to a sharp...though not always). BUT I'm not sure. Also, how would you notate an augmented sixth chord? Thanks for your help!

  • What song is this?? have partial tune?

    Ok, so this is going to sound verrrry nerdy.....:P but I don't know the exact words, or I'd just google it (which I've tried).

    I THINK the chorus starts "there's a place" (no, not the Beatles) but I can't remember any other words, just part of the chorus melody.

    It's not in C, but let's pretend it is. Here's the names of the "notes" on how the chorus goes, hopefully you'll be able to understand what I'm saying. THANKS! =)

    C D E C D A A C D E-D C G G G F E C C G G G F E B B (repeat)

    Hopefully that's understandable! Your help is appreciated :)

  • Waffle maker not browning enough, even with "ready" light?

    So, this might sound like a "dumb" question...but oh well! :P

    So we have this waffle iron...this one:

    http://www.oster.com/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=3880

    And, it's the kind that you flip, but, it's not browning the waffle enough, & it barely tastes cooked. I can't find the manual, but if I remember correctly (which I don't think I do) you're supposed to flip it right after you pour the batter & close the lid. Then you just flip it right-side-up & take it out when the green light goes off. BUT...it's not cooking the waffle as much as I'd like, even on Maximum power/heat. I tried leaving it right-side-up til the green light goes off, then flipping, but that didn't seem to work either. (Oh, & I did use the cooking spray.)

    Someone else have this kind of waffle maker? or know what I'm doing wrong? I swear I'm not a "bad" cook, I just forgot something ;) Thanks!!! =)

  • What piano pieces should I pick up?

    I'm finishing my first year of college as a Piano Performance major, & I'm finishing the Brahms Two Rhapsodies (no. 2) & am getting close(r) to finishing Rachmaninoff's Prelude in Gm (op. 23 no. 5). I need to pick up another piece or two that are not of the same genre/time as Rach (for the summer/upcoming semester). Any suggestions? P.S. Last semester I did the Schumann Drei Romanzen op. 28 No. 1 (Bb m), Debussy Suite Bergamasque Prelude, & the 3rd movement of Beethoven's Pathetique Sonata.

    So yeah, any suggestions? Something that's challenging (but something I can handle) but a lot of fun!

    THANKS! =)

  • Indefinite integral with a square root? [calc homework]?

    Hey all,

    So, I was able to get all my problems but this one. I got:

    int( x / (sqrt(x+5)) dx)

    Looks like I gotta use U-substitution.

    SO,

    Let x+5 = u.

    Therefore, deriving this equation,

    1 dx = du

    So, I replace the dx with du.

    I now have

    int( x / (sqrt(u)) du)

    --------now what?

    I thought maybe I could substitute u for just x, but that wouldn't do anything.

    What should I do to solve this problem????

    THANKS! =)

  • Sibelius or Finale with an ACTUAL keyboard?

    Hi everyone. I'm wanting to by a computer notation software program (Sibelius or Finale), but I want one that I can actually hook up with the keyboard - not the on-screen MIDI keyboard, but an ACTUAL, tangible one - play the notes on the keyboard, and the notes show up on the screen. I don't know if one or both of those have that capability...and if so, how to change the settings so the computer recognizes the keyboard. HELP would be much appreciated. Thanks! :)

  • Increasing/decreasing intervals, concavity, totally not getting this problem?

    Hi,

    Ok, so here's my problem. I'm supposed to find the intervals on which this function is increasing / decreasing.

    f(x) = 2x^2 - 8(x^4)

    That gives me

    f'(x) = 4x - 32x^3

    So to find x, I set it to equal 0.

    0 = 4x - 32x^3

    0 = 4x(1 - 8x^2)

    Which gives me

    4x = 0

    and

    1 - 8x^2 = 0

    ===>

    x = 0

    and

    1 = 8x^2

    1/8 = x^2

    x = (positive and negative) sqrt(1/8)

    So I got x = 0, (positive and negative) sqrt(1/8)

    (Typing "infinity" as "INF" and "-infinity" as "-INF") that gives me these intervals:

    (-INF, -(sqrt(1/8)))

    (-(sqrt(1/8)), 0)

    (0, (sqrt(1/8)))

    ((sqrt(1/8)), INF)

    So I set up a little chart.

    Headings for the column are as such:

    Interval | 4x | (1-8x^2) | f'(x) | f is...

    First column, I write the interval;

    Second column, I write whether plugging in a number from said interval into 4x will give me a positive or negative number;

    Third column, do the same thing, only with (1-8x^2) instead of 4x;

    Fourth column, I multiply the results from the previous two columns (e.g. positive * negative = negative);

    Fifth column, I write "increasing" or "decreasing," depending on whether the fourth column says "positive" or "negative" (e.g. if the fourth column says positive, I put "increasing").

    I found that on the intervals (-INF, -(sqrt(1/8))) and (-(sqrt(1/8)), 0), the function was increasing; on the intervals (0, (sqrt(1/8))) and ((sqrt(1/8)), INF), I found the function to be decreasing...

    ...only, that poses a problem. How could two intervals, between two zeros of f'(x), both be increasing or both be decreasing?

  • A power to a power? How do I solve that?

    Ok, so here's the deal. I'm given the equation

    (6^(6x))(6x).

    so it's like

    ^^ 6x

    ^6x

    6

    if that works :P

    [I put the "^^" to indicate that it was the exponent of 6's exponent.]

    Anyway, so I'm supposed to read it as being equal to

    6^(f(x)).

    And I gotta find what f(x) is.

    So, it's gotta be (6x)^(6x), right?

    So then how am I supposed to simplify that?

  • What does a half note with a staccato symbol mean?

    I know that for a quarter note, 8th note, 16th, etc, it just means play it quick, short & detached. Does it mean the same for the half note? That you just hit it that once & there is silence?

    Thanks! =)
