A little help with my horsey story?
“No, no, stop, let me go! Joe please don’t leave! Stop!” My heart thudded against my shivering chest. The guards grip twisted on my wrist harshly while a fought to get free. The British Calvary had taken my brother for war. He was going to be gone for who knows how long, will he even come back? “Let me go!” I yanked at my arm as hard as possible and the moment as I felt the guards grip loosen I accelerated of my skinny legs, not looking back. For one final moment I stretched out my arm to meet with him, he grabbed my hand and told me he loved me. I couldn’t let go. I felt the pressure of many hands grab my shoulder. I had lost, they got my brother, I couldn’t help but burst into tears. How were we going to live? Joe was the only one with a job and I was only 13. I struggled to catch breath when I fell to the muddy ground. I could faintly see Joe come towards me and try to help me up but he was restricted.
All I had left was my horse. No matter what happened she made me smile. I walked into the creaky old barn and snatched up my grooming kit. As I sauntered to her stall I heard heavy footsteps behind me. I turned around and saw an older man wearing a black suit and tie. “May I help you?” I asked, trying to be polite, even though right now I hated the government, “Actually you can. He said in a self-motivated voice. “Do you own the horse “Nike of beauty?” “Yes I do, why do want to know?” I replied cautiously. “Well I am a recruiter for the British military, and a few days back we found your brother. He is an excellent rider, but unfortunately we don’t have a mount for him. We hear Nike is a real fine horse.” He said smugly. “No, no, no! No, not again! You people are heartless!” I was screaming now. “Not again, leave me alone! You can’t take her from me!” I was struggling to keep the warm tears from rolling along my cheeks now. I was choked up and shaky and my legs couldn’t stop trembling. “Enough is enough, she is mine! Go away! I hate you, I hate the government!” I was sweating and my mind was in a whirl as the world spun around me. I couldn’t believe how heartless they were, taking everything I love into their stupid war.
“Take the horse. Now.” The man said. “Please sir.” I begged the groom, “Don’t take her, she can’t do this, she’s too young.” “I have to. There is no other option.” They stamped into her stall, and put on a chain-latched halter. That was too harsh, I could ride her in a string, they would put her in a twisted curb. I knew it but there was nothing I could do. My big, brave Chestnut Hanoverian was gone.
The next few days where inflicted with terror. Shaking mind, cold arms, frozen heart. Their where so many great horses, but none found their way into my heart.
I couldn’t pay for my own food, or any heating source. I offered people odd jobs but no one wanted my help, or plainly was as poor as me. All my money went to buying grains for the horses. Even though their owners supplied them with hay, but many needed the nutrition of grain. What an idiot I was, putting horses with hay before me? I needed food, someday those wild berries will run out, or the tree bark will home a poisonous spider. And those considerate congress men where kind enough to supply me with nothing. Life sucked.
Now so far this is all I have, I started it a few days ago. I want to just make a 250-300 page book and try to sell as much as I can, money for some showing. Now any feedback is welcome. I am also a little bit stumped here. I want her to find another horse to ride, an even better horse but I just dont know how to introduce it. Oh and by the way this takes place in 1836 England. Thanks in advance!
5 AnswersHorses8 years agoI'm angry with my instructor?
Well I'm leasing a horse from my instructor, she is calm on the flat so she uses her for the 10-11 year olds. I come out 4-5 times a week, I would ride her every day. But now she is used for lesson twice a week so now I can oly ride her 2-3 days a week. But my instructor said I could ride her other horse for free so I thought it was no big deal. Well then she wouldn't let me ride her other horse. I was kind of angry because we were paying for her shoes, feed and vaccinations. Well now she haad to talk to me about putting away the tack. I use her bridle and saddle but one night I was in a hurry so my friend said she would put away my bridle, helmet and half chaps but she didn't. So after that one time she thought I was irresponsibel. She said it has happened alot but honestly that was the only time. She nags me about not cleaning the bit, WTF! I scrub that bit with my finger nails! It is one of the girls who takes lessons on her that leaves out the bridle and breastplate! I don't even use a breastplate! She talks about leasing my ease to the other girl, a shared lease but I'm still really pissed because that means I could only ride like 2 times a week! I feel like im not being trated very well but there are like no other barns near me! I'm confused and I just feel like crying becaause an immature 10 year old tells me I do everything wrong! Not at all, she is horribe with horses but thinks she is amazing! I cant ride my favorite horse very much anymore, I want to just end the lease but that means I cant do shows with her or ride her more that once a week. Please help me decide what to do. Should I go barn searching some more or something else?
Thanks in advance
6 AnswersHorses8 years agoI'm thinking about switching barns?
Well I ride at a really good placee but I feel like I'm not learning anything new. I have learned lots but now its just repeating itself. I wan't to go try a new place that seems really fun and they do lots of showing witch is something I want to do. Also my friend that rides at my current barn is getting really competitive with me and riding is loosing its fun. I'm afraid that the insrtuctor there will tell me instructor now and she will be mad at me. Should I stay or go?
2 AnswersHorses9 years agoWhich horse to choose?
Okay so I'm 13 and have been riding 5 years, I jump 2'9", dressage, english equitation and hunter. I really like these three horses, sorr I don't have a link to them. I would like a calm horse that can be a challenge though,
1. 15.2hh chestnut thoroughbred mare. She is best suited for an intermidiate, (I am) Does english equitation, western pleasure, dressage and hunter, she does not do jumping though so I would have to have a trainer help teach her that. 7 years old. I saw a video of her, she is a very nice mover and very long and agile legs so I think she has jumper potential.
2. Chestnut 16.hh thoroughbred mare and they said she is very willing to please but she would only be able to do small jumps due to her back legs being somewhat strait. In the video of her she seems very cooperative but somewhat frisky and fast. She has very nice gaits and movement. She is an 8 year old rescue so yes she is a bit skinny. I think she could be a very nice hunter jumper (of course small jumps) In the video they tacked, untacked and washed her, she was fine with it all.
3. Dark bay 15.3hh thoroughbred mare. She is only 6 years old and a very good jumper. She has a really great self carrieage and style. She is a bit frisky on the x-country feild but she seems pretty nice and calm. She is really gentle.
I don't mind if I can't jump but my point is which horse do you think would suit me?
Thanks!
7 AnswersHorses9 years agoMy friend is mean to her horse?
Well my friend started leasing a horse a few weeks ago, she really likes this horse and when ever she is in a lesson she does everything absolutely perfect. Her horse is very nice too. Well when it's just us riding she so is horrible! She gallops her 11 year old laps around an arena! She doesn't even warm up in trot and bend her horse in both directions before. She just enters the arena and canters. She wan't to jump 3' even though her horse can only do 2'6" right now, she has had some issues. Her horse looks like she is going to buck when she askes for gallop. She gives her mixed messages too. She smacks her with the whip right before she pulls harshly on the reins. When I was late for my lesson our instructor told her to groom my horse so we could get out on time. I had to brush her again. Dirt and dust and hair every were. Her hoof had a bunch of dirt still in them and she had flies all over! After our ride her horse was so sweaty and she had brown sweat dripping down her body. We had been riding for and hour and a half already and I was walking around to cool my horse off she said "I'm going to gallop more." I said that her horse look tired and you should probablly cool her off now and she just laughed! She over works her! She just tacks the horse up and rides. She never gives her treats and never pets her. I feel bad for her horse and I know she is up to date on all vacinations and dental, she has shoes and is on medication for her joints and it's like there is no problem at all. She is being well fed and is at a very nice facility. I don't know how to tell her about her behavior. I mean she is a somewhat good friend and we have had alot of issues in the past an it's finally good now and I don't wan't to start another issue. How can I tell her? Also I know the horses owner and she is a good friend of my sister so I think it wil be a little awkward to tell her about that. Help me?!
7 AnswersHorses9 years agoIs this horse too small for me?
I'm 13, 5' tall, will probablly mature around 5'3" or 5'4". I know I'm short. My horse is 15.1hh, is she too small for me?

16 AnswersHorses9 years agoWhat level rider am I?
I have been riding for around seven years now but the first two years I really wasn't learning much. I can walk, trot, canter and gallop confidently. I can canter a horse that hasn't been ridden for a very long time (1 year 8 months), tack up on my own, jump 2'9", take care of a horse with fever or swollen, sore joints, I can do flying lead changes, feed and water horses, lead horses that rear from time to time, jump grids with no hands or stirrups, groom a horse, bathe a horse, load a horse, clean tack, do serpentines and circles, stand on a horse while there walking and canter a crazy pony bareback. I know I'm not advanced but am I beginner, advanced beginner, intermidiate or advanced intermidiate?
Thanks!
4 AnswersHorses9 years agoHow high do you think my horse can jump?
I have a 15.1hh QH. She isn't a very stocky QH, acctually a more lean and long legged one. She is very strong a really smart. Any idea on how high she can jump?
2 AnswersHorses9 years agoMy friend thinks she is the best rider?
So we recently went to a show with our trainer. We did open dressage and when she was cantering a circle she went into trot when we weren't supposed to, stepped outside of the arena and knocked over the flower pot and she looked like she was making really sharp turns. When she got out of the arena our instructor was giving all sorts of critique. When it was my turn I had no major mistakes like her and our instructor said all I needed to do was close my hands a bit more. Some how my friend got first place! After she didn't stop bragging about it, "I must be better than you!" I beat he in the rest of the events but she still didn't stop talking about her blue! I know I an a better rider than her because when my iinstructorbrought over a horse that hhadn'tbeen ridden for six months I got to canter her but all my friend was allowed to do was walk. Any ways to make her stop bragging or acting like shes the best rider that ever lived will be eextremelyaappreciated
5 AnswersHorses9 years agoI need a name for my horse?
Okay so I am getting a chestnut mare. She is really sweet and fun, I love her to death! I wan't her to have a greek name because the few horses I know with greek names are the most amazing! It sounds kind of superstitious but I really want to stick with it. So witch name is best, Pyrrah, it means the color of flame and since shes chestnut I thought it might be clever. Or Phaedra, it means bright and lively and since she is bright and lively I thought that might be cute too.
