9 AnswersBuying & Selling10 years agoHow does bridging amps work to doug and others?
There seems to b a debate on how bridging a multi channel amp works. Lets say you have a 2 channel amp thats 150 x 2 @ 4 ohms and 300 x 2 @ 2ohms. Now some say when you bridge the channels to a single 4 ohm load u would get 300 x 1. This doesnt make sense cuz the amp would do 600 watts stereo @ 2ohms so actually your total bridge power is 600 watts. Here is a link to a cea compliant hifonics amp. Scroll down to the specs and see what i mean http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_23551_Hifonics...
2 AnswersCar Audio1 decade agoAnyone have first hand experience with hifonics brutus BRZ1200.1D?
Im not familiar with the newer generation hifonics line. Ive read reviews stating this amp is great for the price. Can anyone confirm? Pondering to use on a pair of older model rockford fosgate 12" punch hx 2 series. They are dual 4ohm 500 watts rms each and 1000 max. I was considering a 1ohm setup. If I had to guess the year model of the rockfords Id say 2003. They are in mint condition. Picked them up for $130 in a well built box of 3/4" mdf. I practically stole them. I collect older model brands. Looking to match them with a decent amp.

1 AnswerCar Audio1 decade agoHigh end audio amplifiers for the audiophile at about $500-$525 range(For subs)...any recommendations?
I want an amp that will compliment this system...Right now Im running an alpine Cdplayer(CDA-9885),CDT audio for the front components powered by an oldschool(90's)Rockford fosgate punch 200 x2 DSM and The subs are 2-10"Boston acoustic G5 series.
I would like a clean sounding amp with PLENTY of power...at LEAST 1000 watts....I would prefer to run the subs at 4 ohms but I can achieve 2 ohms as well.Any suggestions welcome
3 AnswersCar Audio1 decade agoHow important is the "damping factor" When looking at amplifier specifications or does it matter?
This is a question for those amp techs....If my memory serves me,the higher the Damping factor, the better.Correct? Please explain answer.Im shopping for a good 1000 watt or more amp to power 2-10"Boston Acoustic G5 subs.Im comparing specs. So far I have the JL slash 1000/1 in mind but a bit pricey or an ALPINE PDX 1.1000.The Alpine has some negative areas that kinda bother me,but its efficiency is remarkable....any ideas welcome
2 AnswersCar Audio1 decade agoAlpine PDX 1.1000 any good or how do they rank in sub amps?
I want to run a pair of 10 boston acoustic G5 series subs...each are 450 watts rms totaling 900watts rms. Ive read this alpine amp is extremely efficient
2 AnswersCar Audio1 decade agoold school orion experts.XTR 1200?
I have the opportunity to purchase this amp http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...
Im running 2 boston acoustic 10" G5 series which are 450 watts RMS.I know its a little over but I like to supply plenty of power with properly adjusted gains.I was going for the boston GT28 amp which is designed for them,But isnt this amp one of the oldschool ELITE?
Im very big on sound quality.
IM MORE FOR SOUND QUALITY BUT MAD BASS IS NOT A BAD THING.IF YOU HAD TO RATE THIS AMP(ORION) FROM A SCALE OF 1 TO 10....10 BEING THE BEST.WHAT WOULD YOU RATE THE POWER AND WHAT ABOUT SOUND QUALITY.THANKS IN ADVANCE

I have 07 dodge quad cab.In the fron Im running 6.5 inch CDT components. My question is...what would be a good choice for the rear(5.25 inch) for the best imaging(sound). If you never heard CDT they sound phenominal. But I dont need something to loud in the rear because Im just using for "rear fill".Any recommendations?I thought about just getting a pair of CDT 5.25" drivers but I dont know if they need a crossover when I get them...If I do need a crossover, what frequency would be good for rear fill?Or should I just bite the bullet and run them full range?
1 AnswerCar Audio1 decade agoDecision between 10" or 12" subs for Dodge Ram quad cab?
Im finally getting the subs I want.I cant decide between 10" or 12" subs.Im getting the boston Acoustics G5 series...Both are designed to operate in small spaces. The 10 inch model requires .50 cuft of airspace and the 12 " require 1.0 cuft each.I did find a custom built enclosure for both sizes however the largest one I could find for 12's was 1.8 cuft and one single chamber. Both subs will share the airspace.1.8cuft is only a tad off from the rquired 2.0 cuft.Im just wondering which sub will sound better.Has anyone who owns a dodge ram quad cab had any luck with 12" installs?Which do you think?I like bass but more concerned for clarity, accuracy and so forth. All of my other components are high quality for clarity from Alpine,CDT and Old Rockford Amps...around the 90's.All my wiring are Rockford wires(RCA's,power, etc).I spent a decent amount of money.I just want to be happy with my subs performance.Any suggestions?Advice from experienced audiophiles not from wanna be bass heads who like to say "my sh*t is louder than yours".
1 AnswerCar Audio1 decade agoWhat is your take on polyfill? In your opinion, when is it best to use polyfill?
Ive used polyfil in smaller enclosures before...supposedly this is supposed to "trick" the sub into thinking it has more airspace. But Ive never noticed the difference in the past.I do however use polyfil inside custom or q-logic kickpanels for component sets.Seems to help in that department.
3 AnswersCar Audio1 decade agoCan you wire two 4 ohm subs in series with a another 8 ohm sub?
Im curious as if this will work. Can you wire Two 4 ohm subs in series to achieve a 8 ohm load....then wire a single 8 ohm sub in parallel with the other two subs? This would technically be a series-parallel configuration....correct?Would it sound ok?Or would the two 4 ohm subs get more power?Wouldnt the over all load be 4 ohms?Ive done this many times but they were all the same impedance.Ive wired 8 subs before at a 2 ohm load but as I said before,They were all the same impedance.
7 AnswersCar Audio1 decade agoExperienced installers please.I have a question about ohm/resistance on a older model amp.RF Punch 200x2?
First let me start by telling you what Im running.Initially I was running a rockford punch 200x2(dsm) transana with 2 OLD school punch 12's.The 12's are the older series aound early 90's.They are only 100 watts nominal/Rms and 4 ohms each.I was running a 12 to each channel.Being that these particular subs are NOT very loud,I decided to add a 3rd 12 that I had lying around. This sub is a polk audio around 300 watts rms(i think) and also 4 ohms.
Ok,I am running all 3 subs in what I call "tri-mode".Which is 1 12" on each channel at 4 ohms and 1 12"(The polk) Bridged at 4 ohms at the same time.It actually sounded really nice.
However, for reasons unknown (because it happened when My girlfriend was driving/listening)one sub was overheated and on the verge of blowing. My girlfriend said she was jamming out real loud and began to smell something burning.Every since then,it sounds weak.
My guess is she was clipping the amp at an extreme level and was unable to hear it due 2 the polks bass
4 AnswersCar Audio1 decade agoAnyone listened to "FoxAcoustic" brand dodge ram subwoofer boxes?
Im searching for a custom box that fits under the rear seat for two 12 inch subs OR two 10 inch if thats better.(I just have some oldschool 12 inch already on hand)I want the best sounding box.Has anyone ever heard this particular box in action? Here is a link on ebay.

7 AnswersCar Audio1 decade agoToo the user ozzy?
You mention that there are no such thing as bridgeable mono amps...well I hate to say you are wrong...soundstream makes one and the oldschool power 50m and 500m are able to be bridged with another amp.Ive been around awhile...if you need proof,I will be more than happy to oblidge.Do your reseaech before making false statements.Look up the specs to amps I mentioned. These are just to name a few. Also, soundstream has what they called "twin stack"capability..which means you can use 2 models on 1 sub. This I will admit is not exactly bridging but the punch 50m can.It requires a bridging adapter though. Here is a link for those others that want to comment

Lets say I was downloading adult content from a p2p program like limewire and I downloaded a file(video)that was labeled mislabled or could not read what file was.Lets say the file was in a foriegn language and I didnt understand what the file was. After veiwing the file,I noticed it was something very unlawful that I feel I need to report it.It has to do with underage children.I was in no way looking for this kind of content, but to my disgust it was there.Who do I report this too? Will I get in trouble? Will they take my computer away just because I came across it by accident?Cant I just show my local police the video?Or should I just delete file and forget about it?Im not sure if the police can determine the origins of the file...but the underage persons face is clearly visible...unfortunately the adults is not. Please help...what should I do.
