The door to my Chevrolet Suburban won't unlock with the key. Why?
The key fob remote works fine, but when I insert the key to unlock the door, it turns completely but the door won't unlock. The only way to unlock the door is with the fob. I need the key to work because it is a backup key for a spouse who has no fob.
1 AnswerMaintenance & Repairs9 years agoWhere can I partner with an advertiser where the advertiser is paid based on results?
I want to pay the advertiser based solely on how many customers reference that advertiser. I primarly need print, radio or tv sources for this. On the web, there are plenty of ways to drive traffic, but it is mostly based on click-throughs. I need someone who is willing to get paid based on conversions.
3 AnswersOther - Advertising & Marketing1 decade agoIn a property's legal description on a deed, what is a "pointer"?
Obviously, this somehow refers to a tree, but what kind of tree? Is it a stump? Is there something special about the tree?
Here is the language:
"beginning at a black walnut pointer near the top of a ridge near the road"
and
"to a red oak with dogwood pointers"
What makes a "pointer" a "pointer"? Thanks.
2 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoIs there an organization that recognizes the gravesites of union soldiers from the Civil War?
A local cemetery contains a dead union soldier. The cemetery is deteriorating and a local resident believes that there might be a group or organization that will recognize the soldier, put some flowers on the grave and maybe perform some type of ceremony. I am not aware of any such organization for union soldiers. It would probably be something like the Daughters of the Confederacy, but only for the Union.
1 AnswerMilitary1 decade agoGrave Marker Question - What does Corp. Co. C, 14th T-INF mean and what war might the person have fought in?
This is on a grave market in TN. The person died on Dec. 20, 1916 and was 38 years old. My assumption is that if he fought in a war, it would likely be WWI. Can this info on the stone definitively tell us anything?
3 AnswersMilitary1 decade agoGrave Marker Question - What does Co. C 4 U.S. V. INF mean and what war might the deceased have fought in?
Based on the dates of some of the surrounding stones, I suspect this is likely a civil war veteran for the union, but do not know enough about it to know for sure. There is no date on the stone.
2 AnswersMilitary1 decade agoCan a wife be liable for the pre-marital medical debts of a husband?
The common law doctrine of necessaries, where applicable, would make a wife liable for providing necessary medical care for a husband. Is there any circumstance where this could be applied to medical debts that occurred before the marriage?
4 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoIs it OK to require 2 employees who have never met to share a hotel room during a 2 week training session?
The employees are female and would be working together for a period of time after the training. It might be a good bonding experience, but it also might be uncomfortable for them to share since they have never met each other. This would be a double room and most of their time would be outside of the room in training seminars.
4 AnswersCorporations1 decade agoI need a resource which shows various valuation "rules of thumb" (i.e., multipliers) for a restaurant.
I am looking to get some quick rules of thumb for the restaurant industry so I can have an idea of whether the business is a good deal. In particular, I am interested in what a typical EBITDA multiplier is for a restaurant.
2 AnswersSmall Business1 decade agoWhat magazine had an article within the past year about business valuation multiples for various industries?
I am sure that it was either Entrepreneur or Inc., but I can't find it anywhere. The article had colored bubbles and a large regression-type chart which showed where various businesses fall on various sales multiples. The purpose is to get an indication as to which multiples are most relevant for a sales price of the entire business (i.e, multiples of revenue are more important in some industries than multiples of cash flow, etc.)
2 AnswersOther - Business & Finance1 decade agoWhat is a typical royalty rate for licensing a trademark?
The situation is that one company desires to license its trademark to another. The company with the trademark has been using the TM for at least 20 years.
Also, is the rate more commonly expressed as a percentage of gross sales or a percentage of profits? It seems that gross sales would be better from the licensor's standpoing because it would be more difficult to manipulate using accounting conventions.
2 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoOver the long term, how does speculation affect the price of oil?
In the short term, I think it is clear that speculation affects oil prices, but over the long term, I am less than convinced. Specifically, with all derivatives, there is someone on the other side of the deal; it is a zero-sum game unless someone takes delivery. If speculation drove the long-term price of oil, it seems to me that the speculators would be required to take delivery of the oil at some point in hopes of selling it at a higher price. If the speculators are not taking delivery, supply and demand must dictate the price of oil as the long-derivative speculator simply offsets the position of the short-derivative speculator until the contracts settle or expire. Since speculators who do not take delivery are not affecting supply and demand, how could speculation cause a long term increase in the price? News commentators continue to bang the drum of speculation causing the price rises, but I remain unconvinced. Now is your chance to convince me where my analysis falls short.

I would like concrete examples of actual bias in news coverage. I'm not talking about opinion shows such as O'Reilly or Hannity & Colmes.

2 AnswersCareers & Employment1 decade agoDoes the VP of legal affairs have to be an attorney?
This person would be supervising attorneys but would not be an attorney. Is there any requirement that he actually be an attorney? The CEO obviously supervises attorneys in the legal department and he is not an attorney, but is giving this person this title problematic?

2 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoI need a title for an executive who is not an attorney but sounds like they have control of a co's legal dept.
Here is the situation: company wants to send a nastygram to a third party and they want to sound like they are a bigger company than they actually are. The want to sound like they have a legal department without actually having a legal department. They do not want to misrepresent that they are an attorney, but at the same time would not be too upset if the other party misinterpreted their position to believe that they actually are an attorney. The position does not necessarily have to be relating to a legal department but needs to show that it has a lot of clout and gives the impression that this is a bigger company than it actually is. Any ideas for a good title for this person?
