Is it possible to find a programming mentor?
I'm no stranger to programming. I've dabbled in just about every language, but have mastered none. I need structure for my learning experience. Programming is just wide open and unless you have a specific project to work on, it feels useless. So I am looking for a person willing to share their learning experience with me or even if you just provide in answer ways to learn programming languages so that they become marketable skills. In other words, I usually don't put many programming languages on my resume because I would probably need a reference book for syntax lookup if I got a job as a programmer.
1 AnswerProgramming & Design8 years agoWhat career or field fits my calling?
I absolutely enjoy taking disorganized data and transforming it into a harmonious and accessible masterpiece. I even enjoy correcting and re-writing essays for my friends and family. I just have no clue what field calls for this type of thing.
2 AnswersOther - Careers & Employment8 years agoHow to get a negative quotient from two negative values?
I am working on a trig problem:
Determine the values of cos Θ and tan Θ if sin Θ = m/n, a negative fraction. Since sin Θ is negative, Θ is in quadrant III or IV. Since sin = m/n, y = m and r = n. n = - √n^2 - m^2
My problem is with quadrant III, both x and y should be negative, thus
tan ɵ = - m / -√n^2 - m^2 = m √n^2 - m^2/ n^2 - m^2
Schaum's gives the following as tan Θ:
- m √n^2 m^2 / n^2 - m^2
I don't understand where they get the -m in the numerator. Any help is appreciated.

4 AnswersMathematics1 decade agoWhy does my Vista recovery drive keep growing?
I don't understand why it keeps growing, when it's supposed to be an image of all the necessary files to start the PC if it crashes. I have roughly 4.0 GB left of a 9.9GB recovery drive. Is there anything I need to do at this point?
2 AnswersSoftware1 decade agoWhere can I get Grateful Dead at Shoreline Amp 8/16/91 in mp3 format?
The one show I want more than anything and all I can find are these weird checksum, ffp, blah blah files. This show defines why I even love them in the first place. I'll even settle for just the dark star and the scarlet-vic-fire. Please!!!!!
2 AnswersRock and Pop1 decade agoWhich is cheaper: prepared foods or cooking your own foods?
I'm trying to cut grocery costs, but I want to do a bit more research. Most sites say that it is better to cook your own food, but none mention the electric that has to be used to cook these foods. Also, I'm noticing that spices and condiments are expensive even in small amounts. What do you think? Also, if you know of any studies regarding this subject please point me to them. Thanks in advance.
4 AnswersOther - Business & Finance1 decade agoWhich zombie movie is this?
The movie opens with some scientists in a lab with white lab rats. One of the rats is carrying the virus and attacks the scientist. The movie is either late 70's or early 80's. I suspect it is one of the following: Dawn of the Dead or Day of the Dead. I don't want to end up ordering the wrong one.

7 AnswersElections1 decade agoAre some Republicans playing the race card?
Black people almost always vote overwhelmingly for whoever is running on the Democratic ticket. I could see if Obama was running for the Republican ticket and then we all shifted over to Republican; then there would be cause for the "race card." However, he is Democrat, so what's the fuss?
12 AnswersElections1 decade agoIs there a such thing as an AIDS "carrier"?
Obviously there are people carrying HIV and AIDS, but I want to get to the bottom of whether or not there's a such thing as a person that has HIV, but doesn't suffer the symptoms, passes HIV on to their partners and never contracts AIDS. Is it a myth?
4 AnswersSTDs1 decade agoHow can I get screen shots from a movie directly from TV to PC?
I just realized there are no really wonderful images of Paul Newman available. I want to know if there is a way to play "Long Hot Summer" on my DVD player and do a screen capture from the television to my PC. If this is possible, how can I do it? What will I need to do it? The more details, the better.
2 AnswersTVs1 decade agoWhat is the name of this Afrocentric House music song?
This is a tough one because there are no English lyrics, just a man with a smooth voice chanting:
Ahmmm sooma loomah sooma sumbahdah
or
Ahmmm sooma loomah loomah sumbahdah
It was popular in clubs roughly between '94 and '96 and was often mixed with another song towards the end where a guy chants:
Hey bop-a-doo...
In the case that no one has a clue what this song is I will give the points to someone who lists an excellent house music website where I might be able to find it.

3 AnswersMusic1 decade agoWhat does "ingens patebat tellus" mean?
In the prefatory remarks of Thackeray's Book of Snobs is written:
"When a man has this sort of vocation it is all nonsense attempting to elude it. He must speak out to the nations; he must unbusm himself, as Jeames would say, or choke and die. 'Mark to yourself,' I have often mentally exclaimed to your humble servant, 'the gradual way in which you have been prepared for, and are now led by an irresistible necessity to enter upon your great labour. First, the World was made: then, as a matter of course, Snobs; they existed for years and years, and were no more known than America. But presently,—INGENS PATEBAT TELLUS,—the people became darkly aware that there was such a race. Not above five-and-twenty years since, a name, an expressive monosyllable, arose to designate that race. That name has spread over England like railroads subsequently; Snobs are known and recognized throughout an Empire on which I am given to understand the Sun never sets..."
1 AnswerBooks & Authors1 decade agoWhy am I receiving bogus search results so frequently?
Lately I have been receiving very annoying search results. They lead to sites that have absolutely nothing to do with what I was looking for, but they contain the phrase I've searched for in very odd places on the page.
I suspect that there are some very selfish and imprudent entrepreneurs that have found a way to take advantage of meta tags. It's absolutely annoying and is preventing me from obtaining the information I need.
What is this phenomenon? How can I avoid it?
