AN ice dam caused quite a leak above our kitchen this winter. Is there anything I can do to prevent this next year except keeping the gutters clear?

I got a damage settlement on ice damage to my house. I can do most of the work myself. Do I need to supply the insurance company with proof that the damage has been fixed and what I spent the settlement on??

do you have to pay title insurance if you have already done that when you initially purchased the house?

What is the rationale for backing into a parking space? It clearly takes longer to back in than back out, unless you are unloading something from the back on to the curb why would you do this? It seems like idiocy to me.

We used to have a 100 gallon fresh water tank before we moved. I left the tank and fish with the new owners. Now we want a new tank and like the vibrant colors of the salt water fish. I was wondering what the differences in cost and maintainence is between the two?? I know the fish are considerably more expensive.

WE bought a house about a year ago and there is a 6 year old red rood about 4 feet from the corner of the house. I feel that it shouldn't have been planted there. It is already 25' tall. Should I cut it down?? I'm afraid it will disrupt the foundation of the house and eventually the house itself.

MY 8 year old house that we bought less than a year age doesn't have a drip edge. 2of 3 roofers have told me it's nice but not necessary. The other is quoting about $2,500 to install 325' for the whole house. We do have some dameage from rain that needs to be fixed.

Also they are recommending sealing the chimney which has visible cracks.

Last fall we had a driving rain that saw some leakage in the ceiling. The rain was pretty much blowing sideways. Well now that the snow has begun to melt I notice that the some of the shingles are warped and I can see some of the plywood underneath is beginng to rot.

I have had two contractors out:

1st one says the shingles need torn offand to replace the wood underneath. Recommends a drip edge surrounding the entire roof and noticed that the vents have cracking the rubber and should be replaced. Also recommends putting in an attic vent fan since the attic is improperly vented. Ihave been told about the venting before from an HVAC guy.

This guy got up on the roof and really looked around for awhile.

contractor 2 Brought his binoculars out Looked at it from the ground and said that it was no big deal. Drip edges are nice to have but not realy necassary. The warping in the shingles was normal wear and tear and I shouldn't be overly concerned about it. Who's right?

I tried to turn on the gas to the fireplace last night it lit the fake logs up but there was a high pitched whining sound emantaing from the pipe. turned it off immediately thought it might be a gas leak. We bought the home this summer and turned it on with the inspector It didn't make the noise at that time. Wondering if it could be the colder weather (Mid 40s)

I received a letter from an old employee (10 year associate, left two years ago) saying I either had to rollover my 401K to an IRA or employer plan. I have over $10k in the account. I was under the impression they had to maintain it by law. Did the law change? Links would be appreciated.

I seem to have a ton of male mosquitos in my lawn. What is the best way to kill them??

We just bought a house in columbus ohio that the grading is deficient. All of my neighbors runoff water pools in my back yard. We have the drain for the runoff in our yard but it seems to sit up too high to gather the water as it collects. I am concerned about mosquitos breeding in the standing water not to mention that my yard can get a little swampy there. I am thinking of teaming up with my neighbor and installing a french drain the length of both of our lawns. The county claims no responsibility.

What are my options short term and long term?

We own a stock that is sinking fast down to $5.25 from a high of $16.00 We are going to ride it out but the question is what happens when a stock hits zero? Is the company forced into bankruptcy? Is the stock then deemed worthless?
