  • At what point can you tell if a dog is pregnant?

I put a deposit down on a puppy for a future breeding of two dogs back in the summer. The dog went into heat in September and her due date was today. I get a call last night from the breeder telling me that the dog never was pregnant! They artificially inseminated her and she gained weight. They thought she didn't look as big as with other litters but they assumed she was having a small liter. So they decided to take her to the vet yesterday and guess what? NO puppies.

I realize that not all breedings take BUT am I being unreasonable to expect that a professional breeder should have suspected that the dog wasn't pregnant weeks BEFORE the dog reached her due date. We were waiting to hear news of the puppies and instead we're finding out there isn't going to be any. I'm pissed! Should I be?

  • Burned picture files on DVD not recognized by other computer?

Ok internet, I need some advice.

I have a desktop computer is a 2004 HP with Windows XP. All my photo files and music files are stored on this computer. For a few weeks this summer, it was out of commision...so I used my husband's 2008 HP laptop with Windows Vista to download my photos from my vacation.

I am trying to make a master photo backup for the year..so I want to take the few files I have on the laptop, copy them to the desktop and then copy the files on a DVD. The problem is when I copy the photos from the laptop onto a DVD, then put them into my desktop DVD drive...it states that the DVD is blank. I put the DVD back into the laptop...it states the picture files are on there.

    What's going on??

  • Christmas tree is not drinking water...advice.?

I sent my husband out to buy our Christmas tree this year..alone. Big mistake. The tree is beautiful .We spent yesterday putting up the train set, setting up the tree, lights on, ornaments hung. Then my husband remarked that the tree wasn't drinking alot and he hoped it wouldn't dry out. Then I said "Well, you did have them cut off the bottom of the trunk, right?"

I got a stupid blank look in return. I can't believe it! We've always had them take and inch off the bottom and now he acts like he never heard of the concept. Grrr.

Anyway, there is no way that tree is coming down. Any things you can add to the water to maybe open it up and get it drinking?

  • McCain's cross in the sand story, is it true?

McCain has written about his POW experience at length, and yet, this story about the the guard putting the cross in the sand is a recent phenomenon. When did he start telling this story? I wonder if it ever happened. It is starting to sound like it's like Hillary's landing under sniper fire story: a complete fantasy.

  • Air travel with small children

I am taking my kids on their first trip to Disney next month. I have never taken them on a plane. My kids are 5 and 2.

Do I need to bring any sort of ID for them (birth certificate) for boarding the plane?

Do I need booster seats for them on the plane? I was planning on bringing one for the two year old, but not sure about the five year old.

I was going to bring iPods with videos downloaded on them to entertain them but I heard somewhere that security may confiscate them. Is this true?

Any other advice would be great.

    Thanks in advance!

    Thanks

  • Does anybody know when Attention Deficit Disorder can be diagnosed?

I have been having such an adventure with my son. He is fine at home but gets a bit overwhelmed and inattentive at school. His days at school are all over the board, some days he is great others not so good.

At the request of the preschool I had him evaluated and so far we have been told"

He had a learning disability with comprehension problems so he needed speech therapy. A few weeks with a speech therapist blew that theory out of the water.

    He had Sensory Processing Disorder.

OT therapist said he was an activity based learner but definately did not have ADD

School psychologist said she suspects a high-funcitioning Aspergers

Pediatrician said no Aspergers but definately ADD and after ten minutes and with no formal eval, was willing to write my five year old a script for Ritalin. We turned him down.

My brother has had similar issues with his one son. His doctor told them that no responsible practicioner would consider ADD the age of 8. What's up? I am so confused!

  • What to do about frozen condensation on air conditioning unit?

The air conditioning unit has been running for almost three days now. We noticed water stains on the ceiling tiles in our basement. Upon inspection, we discovered condensation on the air conditioning pipes. We purchased foam pipe insulation sleeves and wrapped the lines on the interior of the house. Inspecting the line outside coming from the unit, there is a big chunk of ice where the pipe enters the unit and another where the pipe enters the house. These are areas where the metal is exposed.

Will this cause a problem in the functioning of the unit? We are still getting cool air. Just trying to head off any potential issues as we are going into a stretch of 90+ degree days.

  • Can I seed my lawn in the spring?

My husband and I moved to our new home in June 2006. The front yard was sodded but the back yard was left for us to get going. They took all the top soil, so what was left has alot of rocks and the soil has alot of clay.

Last fall, we had a landscaper come out and aerate and seed the yard. It made it look alot better but their are still patches that need to be done. I hate thinking we'll spend another summer with the yard looking horrible. Can we seed now or would be just be wasting our time?

  • Accuracy of do it yourself radon tests.?

My husband and I purchased a new construction home last year. The builder offered to install a radon mitigation system in the home if we tested for radon within 30 days of purchase. Stupidly, we got distracted and never did the radon test on the house.

In talking to several neighbors (one who lives behind us, the other two doors down) we discovered that they did radon tests and the radon levels in their home was really high.

We quickly ran out and purchased a test from Home Depot. I received the results back today and the levels were low, 2.7 and 3.1 for each canister respectively. How accurate are these tests? Can radon be high in one house and literally next door, there is very little radon?

Just wondering if I should retest. We would like to get the basement done and I want to make sure we don't need they system installed.

    Thanks!
