What to do about our long distance relationship?
We've been dating for 14 months and we are way super truly in love. I'm 28 and she is 22. We are so completely right for each other and we always have great adventures together. When I'm with her I feel completely content. She really is the whole package and I am lucky to have her. We have talked a lot about building a future together, but that idea seems to be falling apart.
The problem is that I had to move away six weeks ago for school and now we are 300 miles apart. She is also in college but can't transfer to mine because we are in different types of schools. We can only manage to see each other once every 3 - 6 weeks because of time and monetary constraints. We text throughout the day and make videos for each other on YouTube, but the lack of time together is really taking it's toll. Not to mention that I'm at a school with two girls for every guy, and many of them are pretty attractive so there is a lot of temptation here. I want to make things work with her, but life is pulling me in every other direction. I have no idea what to do. We have talked about it A LOT and she desperately wants to stay together, but I am losing steam fast.
We were together last weekend and everything seemed to be back to normal. We had a great time and I felt really optimistic for a few days after she left, but now I'm back to being full of doubt. I am sure we could have a GREAT life together, but I also believe that I could have a great life with someone else if I chose to. Lots of guys would be lucky to have her, and fair amount of girls would be lucky to have me. I haven't met anyone else at school, but I haven't tried to either.
I was single for almost four years before we started dating, and I was single for three years before dating my last girlfriend. I'm just picky I guess. The point is that I'm afraid we might break up because I am tempted to meet someone else, and then I won't meet anyone for years. My girlfriend is so lovely and patient and understanding, but we'd both be devastated if we lost each other. I don't want to cause all that pain unless there's a real reason to break up, but so far there is not. I love her so much, I just need her to be here and that's not possible.
For now, we have agreed to stay together and try to make it work; at least until one of us meets someone else or we just can't take it anymore. It just seems futile at times.
Any advice or opinions are welcome.
1 AnswerSingles & Dating8 years agoPlease HELP! My motorcycle is being held hostage, how do I get it back?
I found a 98 Jeep Cherokee on craigslist and made an offer. The seller said he was leaving town that night for ten days but I could come right away. I didn't have all the money yet, so we agreed that I would ride my motorcycle to his house (just over an hour away) and leave it there until I paid the rest of what I owed (stupid) and I could take the Jeep that night. So I test drove the truck, did the deal and took it home.
The next day, I decided to get the carfax. TOTALED. Three years ago. And sold at auction three times. The craigslist ad, which I have a copy of, said it had a clean title. I also noticed that the temporary permit in the back window had been washed of ink and faked. I could see it used to be registered to a 2010 Honda which is another car his family has. I called and tried to get my money back but the seller said the deal was done and I couldn't do anything about it. I threatened to call the police and he laughed at me so I gave him two hours to decide and I hung up. However, my friends convinced me that it was still a good deal even if it was totaled, so an hour later I called the seller back and made smoothed things over and we agreed to do the original deal :0
BUT THEN I called the DMV to see if I could even register the Jeep since it had been totaled, and they told me it had the wrong license plates on it! They said I should call the police and check to see if it was stolen. So a deputy came out and verified that the truck is not stolen, but the plates are not registered to ANY vehicle. And the plates that should be on it expired three years ago. And the truck is registered to someone that lives in an adjacent state...
Now I don't trust anything this guy told me so I'm not talking to him anymore, just the police. I think he is just trying to stick me with his problem and that is not what I bargained for. I don't want the Jeep but he wont take it back, and won't give me my motorcycle back! The police said that I will have to take him to small claims to get my money back, but if I can find someone at his house, an officer will make them give me the motorcycle since it isn't included in our contract. The problem is it seems nobody is ever home! I have driven all the way out there five times now at different times of day and neither him or is mother (who he lives with) seem to be around. The neighbors offered to call me if they see anyone, but they haven't yet.
By the way, our contract just says that I paid $1300 and have to pay $700 within two weeks, but it only identifies the jeep by the (false) license plates, so I think it is void.
My motorcycle is worth more than the Jeep, so I desperately want it back and it's just sitting in this guy's garage! The police wont break in there, even if I report it stolen. I know I made some hideous mistakes here, but is there anything else I can do? I'm totally a good guy getting screwed over by a liar. I only bought the jeep because I am moving next month for school and will need something for the snow. Now I have no idea what I'm going to do! Please, please help. I need a miracle.

I have some debt and don't want to risk my paychecks being garnished, so I am trying to keep my employment a secret from debt collectors until I'm done with college.

2 AnswersPersonal Finance8 years agoHow to open a heavy overhead door?
We have an overhead door at work that's the same size as a double-car garage door, but my boss has a large fan bolted to it that weighs about 100lbs. It usually takes two or three of us to lift the door because it's so heavy. Is there a way to make it easier to open? I don't think electric garage door openers are meant to handle all that extra weight, and I doubt the springs should be tightened much more than normal, but I don't know much about it.
4 AnswersDo It Yourself (DIY)8 years agoCan you make a new tree from a large branch?
I have no idea what I am doing, but this is what happened today:
-I found a nice, mature Japanese Maple
-Cut off an entire bottom branch that was about 4 feet long
-Soaked the cut end in water for about 30 minutes
-Dipped in rooting hormone powder
-Planted 3-4 inches deep in wet organic potting soil with cage to support the branch
-Watered thoroughly
The goal is to grow roots and eventually make this into my first bonsai project. It is protected from direct sunlight, but I'm not sure if that is necessary. I'm in Oregon and it is in the 70's and low 80's this week. Will this branch grow into a tree?
3 AnswersGarden & Landscape8 years agoAre there any girls out there that would be okay with their boyfriend seeing another girl part-time?
I'm 27 and have been dating my girlfriend for almost eight months. We are so completely in love and it is the most special and real relationship I can imagine having. We are both college students at different schools an hour apart. We talk pretty openly about our personal desires, so I've made it clear that like most guys, I am always going to be attracted to other girls no matter how much I love my girlfriend. She's very understanding about that, but she says she isn't attracted to other guys, and I'm pretty sure that's the truth. We only see each other on weekends while in school, which is the only downside to our relationship.
For me, being attracted to a girl is one thing, but developing a real interest in one is pretty rare. I was single for over three years before we started dating because I just couldn't find the right girl. However, two days ago I met another girl in one of my classes that I'm feeling a slight connection with. We were standing in the hall waiting for the teacher to arrive and she kept glancing at me and seemed a little nervous, then she finally turned to me and asked my name. We had a brief conversation and I think we both got some really good vibes. She is cute (definitely my type) and seems very nice and down to earth. But I'm super attracted to my girlfriend in every respect, and she is very nice and down to earth as well. With that said, if I were single, I would fully pursue this new girl further.
I want to be able to hang out with this new girl, but I'm afraid it might lead to something more and there's no way I am comfortable cheating on my girlfriend or taking a risk on losing what we have. It's clear to me that dating two girls openly just doesn't really happen in our culture, but it is also clear that doing so is a natural desire for a lot of guys. I guess I just want some opinions on what my options are. I know that I would feel pretty awful if my girlfriend told me she wanted to date another guy, but I'm not sure how she'd feel about me saying that to her since men and women process a lot of emotions differently and since she seems to understand that men naturally have these piggish urges. There's no question that my girlfriend will always be #1, but it would just be so nice to have some kind of companionship more than one or two days a week.
Yes, I know how ridiculous this is and how upset some people are going to be at me since this is not how the majority of relationships function, but does anyone out there think it's possible to be with two girls at the same time in a non-deceitful way?
3 AnswersSingles & Dating8 years agoWill my insurance company check my driving record if my boss requests my driving history from the DMV?
I have been issued 5 or 6 or 7 tickets over the last 11 years of driving (I'm 27), but my insurance premiums have never gone up, as if my insurance company has never checked my driving record. Maybe it's because my brother used to be my insurance agent and they still know him. Anyway, I just got a new job and my boss wants to get a copy of my driving record so he can put me on his insurance to drive the company truck and I want to know if that will trigger my insurance co. (Farmers) to check my records too. I had a possession of marijuana citation while driving last summer and that would likely cause my premiums to go up if they knew about it. Luckily, my boss wouldn't care about that, but I don't want him to check it if its just going to cause problems for me. And please don't turn this into a marijuana hate zone; I've quit smoking since then and at the time I only had a gram in the car but the officer could smell it. Thanks in advance for any info you can give me.
3 AnswersInsurance & Registration8 years agoHow can I get my girlfriend to dress better?
My girlfriend is 21, wonderful in every way and is very beautiful, but I wish she would dress better. She likes to buy clothes at Goodwill and other secondhand stores even though she could afford to buy nicer things. A lot of her clothes are just really worn out looking and some of them have holes. I love her to pieces but it is embarrassing when my friends make comments to me about her looking homeless. I don't need her to dress fancy or buy expensive things, but I would like to find a way to get her to dress a little nicer without seeing seeming like a jerk. What can I do?

2 AnswersHomework Help8 years agoWhy am I attracted to other girls when I love my girlfriend so much?
I'm 27 and have been with my girlfriend (21) just over six months. I honestly love her more than I knew I could love another person. She is truly the most ideal woman for me and I am fully attracted to her in every way. HOWEVER, we are both in college (different schools an hour apart) and I see all these hot girls everywhere I go and I hate that I'm attracted to them. I don't want to be with them, I don't even talk to them. I just like the way they look. It makes me feel like a bad boyfriend. I'm really concerned because I'm moving this fall to attend a school that's five hours away and I'll be there for the next three years excluding breaks and the occasional weekend home. I feel like if an attractive girl down there tried hard enough, I might cheat on my girlfriend. I've been in many relationships and I know I can't do better than her; she's my perfect match. I want to build a life with her and have a solid relationship, and I don't want to feel these temptations anymore. Is there something wrong me with me or is this true for all guys? Does she likely have the same temptations? We are very open and I could talk to her about this but I don't want to make her concerned if what I'm going through is normal. I just really need some advice.
5 AnswersSingles & Dating8 years agoSo wait, can I play music through Bluetooth speakers with my iphone?
I am looking for some computer speakers and after reading up on the reviews I have decided on the Klipsch 2.1 promedia speakers. The regular ones are $150, but the wireless ones are $200. If I can play music from my iphone 4 wirelessly, then it would be worth it to me to spend the extra $50, but I can't tell if that's how it works from the description or the reviews. Here is a link to the speakers on Amazon.com:
2 AnswersMusic & Music Players9 years agoWhy is my mom mad about my girlfriend sleeping over?
I'm 27 and living at my mom's again while I'm in school. My girlfriend is 21 and my family likes her a lot, but she stayed over in my room last night and my mom got really mad at me. My mom isn't religious and she was never married to my dad, so what is the issue here? We've only been dating for a couple weeks but I had been single for over three years and this girl is truly amazing. I do great in school and pay my mom $200 a month. Shouldn't I have this right, especially at my age?
2 AnswersSingles & Dating9 years ago2005 Cannondale CAAD 5 R500 Triple price?
I will be the first person able to check out this bike tomorrow afternoon when the owner gets back from a vacation, and I want to know if this is a good price to pay since I'm not super familiar with road bikes. It is an '05 Cannondale CAAD 5 R500 Triple (52cm) with Shimano 105 components all around (brakes, shifters, derailleurs, and 9-speed in the rear). It seems to be in near mint condition and the owner said he'd let it go for $550.
I currently have a GT mountain bike that I ride 30 miles a day, almost every day. It is a little large for me and obviously not the best choice for long distance riding, so I want to upgrade. I want something that will allow me to do 100+ mile rides, and I like the triple crank because my route includes some serious hills. So, is this a good deal or should I look for something else? I am about 5' 9" and 160lbs.

3 AnswersCycling9 years agoIs an SR22 / hardship permit cheaper for a motorcycle?
I just got my license suspended for six months for possession of marijuana (in Oregon). I have heard I can get a somewhat expensive hardship permit, or sr22, that will allow me to drive to school this fall. Would it be cheaper to get the sr22 for my motorcycle than my car? Or does it apply to both? Or..?
1 AnswerInsurance & Registration9 years agoCan you appeal a suspended license for possession in Oregon?
I was pulled over for having my fog lights on in Eugene, and the officer smelled weed in my car. I only had $15 worth, and handed it over immediately with no issues. I got a ticket (minor violation) for possession, but no DUI or anything else. When I went to court to pay the fine, they suspended my license for six months. This seems crazy. Can I appeal this somehow? I can't afford to do an SR22 / hardship permit, but I need to commute for college this fall.
2 AnswersLaw & Ethics9 years agoCyclocross bike for long distance day rides?
I currently have a 21 speed GT Aggressor mountain bike that I've setup for the street with slicks and spd pedals. It is a really great bike, but I am looking for something that is more comfortable and better geared for longer rides. Right now I am riding 30-40 miles every day with a little gravel and a few hills, but nothing heavy. I don't need to carry panniers or anything, I just want a bike that can handle these conditions while boosting my average speed, and possibly take me 100 miles if I feel up to it. I have an opportunity to buy a 2006 Jamis Nova for $300, but the price sounds too low for what it is. Would this be a good choice for me? Or..?

2 AnswersZoology9 years agoWhat to do about this girl?
I met this girl a few months ago in school and we really like each other. She is 21 and I am 27. The problem is that she says she still loves her ex even though she doesn't really want to be with him, and so she won't date me. He has been in the military for five years and she says he treats her like crap. He ignores her and just wants to sleep with her when he's in town. So why doesn't she forget him? I'm a great guy and have been holding out for the right girl for 3 years, and I think she's the one. We went out tonight and got slightly drunk. Had a great convo as always. She let me try braiding her hair and we smoked menthols because she likes cigarettes when she's drunk. We just seem to be really happy together, so I don't understand why she isn't getting over him. I'll give her more time, but I don't want to wait years. She is very special to me. Will she ever come around, or is this a lost cause?
4 AnswersSingles & Dating9 years agoWhat to do with unexpected love?
I met this girl in college a couple months ago, and wow. I've been single for three years, but I haven't felt this way in ten. We get along soooo well, and I love everything about her so far. But I am hesitant to get into a relationship with anyone because I've been cheated on and I don't want to fail at love again. My real concern is that I may be over analyzing our potential for longectivity by looking for things that may cause problems. First of all there's the age difference. She is 21 and I am 27. Five years, four months and fifteen days. Then there's the fact that she's moving an hour away this fall for school. One hour - not so bad. But here is what worries me most: she's kind of average looking and I hardly feel any kind of physical attraction toward her. Not that I look like a Justin Beaver, but I worry that she won't always be pretty enough to keep my interest. Im just trying to be realistic here, please don't assume I'm a shallow jerk. Really though, I am falling hard for her personality and she IS pretty, just not what I am used to. We've been on one date; doing a second tomorrow and I can't wait. I cant sleep. I can't think of anything but her. I just want to know if anyone who has been here can give me some direction. The last thing I want to do is hurt her or waste our time. What are my chances of having a lasting relationship with this girl (assuming that's what she wants too). Gosh she is lovely...
