  • Does anyone have any interesting ideas for exercising dogs when it is too hot for them to run around outside?

I have an 11 (ish) year old springer spaniel, and so most of the year we exercise her in the local countryside during the day, and though she doesn t go quite as mad as she used to when she was younger and playing outside, her level of enthusiasm is always very high! So you can imagine that in this heat (it s been over 30 degrees Celsius for goodness knows how many days now) when the heat and lack of shade around means that she can t go out so much, she is going slightly mad and my. We have, of course, been walking her in the early morning and evening when it is cooler, but during the rest of the day, I am running out of ideas. I tried a paddling pool, but though she loves swimming she wouldn t go near it after she realised that the walls weren t solid, I ve tried KONG toys and the like, but I dont want her to get overweight and she finishes them really quickly. I cant just do training all the time... Does anyone have any new ideas? Thanks!

  • What would you do with a hamster who wont stop chewing bars? (read details)?

I have a golden Syrian hamster, with a multilayer cage. A few days after we got her last summer, we noticed that she was chewing the bars of her cage, and since have tried everything to dissuade her; we have given her chew sticks, apple wood hamster log type things, cardboard, forage balls... She wont chew the logs after she has taken the bark off, on the most part, and will easily get through a whole cereal box of cardboard in an evening, but does nothing with it, doesn't move it to her bed or anything. I'm now thinking that we have no option but to move her into a cage without bars, but I really dont want to do that, as she loves climbing. Whenever she comes out of her cage, she will climb anything we let her- me, cushions, obviously nothing she could fall off and hurt herself. And despite having a wheel (she does fit it, btw) she barely uses it, opting instead to climb and do acrobatics on the bars and levels of the cage. In addition, the only none bar cages I can find are much smaller. So what would you do to stop her hurting herself? Thanks!

  • Why can't I download apps? (read description)?

Recently, my phone has started saying that my family settings dont allow me to download apps onto my phone. I went to family settings, and there are NO restrictions on at all, on anything, so that cant be the case. I have waited maybe a couple of months now for it to resolve on its own, but nothing has happened. I have run software checks, but again, nothing! No updates available either. What is going on? I have a Nokia Lumia 530 (I think)

  • How do I say these things (more info below) in French?

Hi guys, I'm currently learning French, and there are a few little grammar points that I always forget, and are really annoying in life in general. Usually, I'm quite good at picking up and remembering grammar, but with these I just can't seem to get it!

I am going TO... (Dans? À?)

    IN ORDER TO/ SO

    and finally

I want to give MY FRIEND/BROTHER... ETC a new xyz (Je voudrais se donner?)

I had a longer list but I have forgotten them for now, but it would really help me if someone fluent could tell me how we generally do this. Please dont be afraid of over simplifying... I dont know what level people would say I am at, in terms of beginner, intermediate etc, so yeah, I'm kinda just typing now trying to work out what I'm meaning to say, so I should probably stop... Thankyou!!!

  • What level horse rider am I?

So, from what I've seen, I reckon I'm novice, maybe nearly intermediate depending on who you ask, so here it is:

    I can:

    - walk

    - sitting trot

    - rising trot

    - canter (but not leads confidently)

    - small jumps 1ft maybe

    - serpentines

    - circles

    - leg yielding

    - diagonals

    - use aids when necessary

    - tack up

    - muck out

    - put blankets, rugs on etc

    - general stable/ horse management

    - groom

If you assumed I could do all this well, what level would I be? Not for any particular reason, just cos I want to challenge myself to overcome the my post fall nerves this coming month and I get motivated by having something to aim fir, even if it turns out I cant do it because x y and/or z happens- cant just force an animal, of course

  • What trick(s) could I teach my dog next?

I have an 8-11 year old English springer spaniel who is small for a spaniel, but with a very long back. So far, my family and I have taught her:

    -sit

    - lie down

    - roll over (also x2 rolls)

    - jump (over an obstacle)

    - up (putting front paws onto a higher surface)

    - wait (aka 'stay')

    - leave it (which she will do if she has been told to even if the treat is on her nose, as she knows she will get another for doing it! Two marshmallow dog)

    - climb (dont do this anymore as she is a bit older)

    - catch

    - find it

    - paw

    - high five

    - drop

And basically I have no idea what to do next... I would do speak, but she NEVER barks except in her sleep, so that didn't work, tried walking backwards, which she did for a while, and used to do crawling as well (we are recapping that today!) so yeah, anyone have any age appropriate tricks to teacher her? Thanks! (she also knows other words, like no, dinner and etc, but those dont really count as tricks!)

  • videos downloaded from phone occasionally grainy bad quality?

recently ive been recording videos on my phone then emailing them to my PC (lenovo ideapad 100), but sometimes when i watch them, they become very bad quality, and that video will stay bad quality every time i watch it. on the other hand, some videos have perfect graphics, and some have not bad... it just depends on the video. How can i stop this from happening? is the video being simplified on email so it fits or something, cos the shorter ones do seem more likely to be better quality, from what ive seen. thankyou!

  • My friend is depressed, how can I support her?

Currently I make sure I'm.always happy around her, always truthful and always try my hardest not to mention anything negative from my life. All she does is talk about how sad she is, how her family hate her, how everything is terrible etc, which is kind of expected, but I want to support her best I possibly can, any ideas? Thankyou!

  • What are the details for owning a horse or pony?

I would live to have my own horse one day, but it will probably be in about 10-20 years if at all, but I want to know how to care for a horse properly, as I have only ever done 1 off days at the weekend working at the stable, so I know how to muck out, poo pick from fields and make hay nets, as well as groom and tack up, but what else it there? How often are vet check ups? How often should they be shod, if at all? How do you know how much food and what type to give a horse (by which I mean supplements, though also when if ever you should restrict grass availability- does colic play into it?),and anything else you can think of! Thankyou! (btw, I'm in my late mid-late teens.)

  • I have a depressed friend that I am only currently able to talk to via email. How should I respond to her statements and questions?

So, we can only talk on the internet, but we talk most nights and I play multiplayer games with her, but she, ou course, constantly feels terrible and like no one cares. I know that depression cant be fixed just like that and well, it is going to be unlikely that I ever get through to her, as is the nature of the illness. Trouble is, she wont accept that she is depressed so just thinks that it is the way she is (though I m sure that that is common?). What is a way to talk to her and respond to comments such as you don t care ,and i made the one person who cared about me hate me and i want to die etc? Currently I just repeat that I care and tell her she is wanted, lived etc, and listen to her whenever she wants me to. Is this the right way to go about it? I want to do the best thing for her so knowing more about depression would also be helpful. THANKYOU SO MUCH!!!

    Comedic adlibs

    Light hearted

    Well developed characters

    A bit unlikely

    Set in the past

Written so you kind of believe it despite being unlikely.

Or just some suggestions of your fave books if you don t know anything that fits the criteria! No books with lots of swearing in, please!
