  • do i have to hem my wedding dress?

I ordered my wedding dress from a designer bridal shop (demetrios), i ordered the longest length i could, which if i wear about 2" heels, just barely brushes the floor as is, does it need to be hemmed after it comes in? I'd like to keep as much length as possible as i am a tall girl and want to wear small heels, not flats, but if i'm losing more than 1" to hemming, flats will be my only option :( anyone know whether or not hemming is totally necessary, and if so, how much height i'm going to lose?

    thanks!

  • henna/mehndi party for non-indian?

I'm looking into doing a mehndi/henna party for the girls in my wedding party before my wedding in august. I'm not of indian descent, and neither are my girls, but i've always had an interest in indian culture and this seems like a really fun tradition, and my mom knows someone who does henna professionally. I don't want to do anythign that would offend people or would demean traditions, and i'm just not sure on the etiquette of having a henna party and wearing henna designs in my wedding if i'm not of the culture. what do you think would be appropriate?

  • how to wear my GIANT sweater?

so our dept. at work is having an "ugly sweater day" this thursday, and i found this great sweater at a thrift store near me. The problem is it's about a 2XL and i wear a medium. I'm thinking of doing it with leggings and making it more of a sweater dress, but what do i do with those huge baggy sleeves? Also do i wear it belted (in which case it rumples and makes a poofy area in the front) or unbelted? Any advice would be great! (also i still have to look professional for work)

    Thanks!

  • controlling turkey farm smell?

I'm getting married next august and i'm considering doing an outdoor tented reception at home. the only thing stopping me from comitting to this idea fully is that there is a turkey farm near our house and in the summer the turkey farm smell floats over and invades our yard. Does anyone know if there's anything that can be done on my part to combat or disguise this smell? the last thing i want is for my reception to smell like overpowering turkey poo!

    Thanks!

  • tonsil stones related to cold and winter?

So about a month ago I started noticing that it felt like i had food caught in the back of my throat, it was driving me nuts so i poked around and managed to dislodge this icky little thing from my tonsils, after researching i'm guessing it's a tonsil stone, i've since had them on and off for the past couple of weeks, usually with one showing up every few days. I'm wondering if this could be related to the fact that I work in a nasty moldy old office building and my nose is constantly stuffed up. I've never gotten these before now and i'm hoping this is something that can be cleared up, because this would be a pain in the butt to have to dig icky bitlets out of my throat forever. Any suggestions, tips, help, ideas? Will it clear up if i manage to clear up my mini-cold/stuffy nose issues?

  • can someone explain IL vehicle stickers to me?

So I recently moved to oak park IL from MN and I keep hearing about "vehicle stickers". What are they? Do I need one? I park my car in a garage, so I don't need a parking permit, but do i still need this sticker thing? Is it the same thing as the "tabs" (the 08-09 stickers you put on your license plate that the DMV gives you every year). I'm just totally baffled at this point and would love some help, thanks!

  • bioplast monroe stud?

    Hi,

I've had my bioplast stud in my monroe piercing for about 4 years with no problems, and all of a sudden i seem to have developed an infection or sore spot or something. I'm wondering if the bioplast piercing could be too old and deteriorating or becoming porous or something. Does anyone have any experience with how often you should replace your bioplast piercings? or how long they last? It doesn't look cracked or anything, but I just figured this would be one thing to look at for the cause of my sore spot since i've been healed and healthy with my piercing for almost 6 years

  • smoother skin on my face?

Ever since high school I have been using a good facial care regimen, cleanser, toner, moisturizer in the morning. exfoliate, cleanse, toner, night cream at night (I use neutrogina, dove, and clean and clear brands). I also try to do a mask at least once a week. Unfortunately I still have rough, problem areas that I would like to be smoother. Does anyone have any suggestions? I can't afford designer creams/lotions etc or a monthly facial on my budget, but if anyone knows of anything that would help to smooth over problem areas (mainly my chin and hairline areas) that would be great. I just really want smooth skin! I feel like i've done good work with my facial care and should have smoother skin than I do. Thanks in advance and I always choose best answer!

p.s. I'm 23 so puberty and hormones are not the issue anymore, lol.

  • cat has raw spots?

I have a 1.5 year old shelter cat that I adopted a few months back. She has been normal and healthy ever since I got her. A few weeks ago she has started over grooming the backs of her hind legs so bad that she gets big bald raw spots. I have an appointment to take her to the vet next week (that's the earliest I could get) and I am going shopping later to switch her food. She has a very stress-free environment, another cat that she gets along with famously, and plenty of stimulation. I leave windows open, a video of birds and bird sounds on, and toys around the house while i'm at work. Is there anything I can do to help her out in the meantime? I play with her and groom her in the evenings, but so far nothing has changed the behaviour and it's getting worse and worse. Unfortunately I'm out of town this weekend so she's on her own with the other cat, but any suggestions on how I can help her not lick herself raw or possible causes are definitely appreciated! Thanks

  • cab fare to midway airport?

I am flying out of midway airport in chicago next week and I'm trying to figure out if it will be cheaper to drive and pay parking (i'll be gone 5 days) or take a cab to and from home. Anyone know what cab fares would be to midway airport from oak park IL? (oak park is about 2 miles west of chicago city limits). I'd take the trains, but according to the online schedule thing it's going to take an hour or more to get from my place in oak park to the airport with all of the transfers and stuff, and since i have to leave after work that would be cutting it too close for comfort I think.

    Thanks!

  • what plants to use?

So I recently moved from the 'burbs to an apartment in the city, i love it but i miss my gardening. I'm on the 3rd floor and have no access to a lawn, my porch is basically non-existent, not really any room for plants (plus it's full shade). I recently have started hanging out up on the roof (i don't know if i'm supposed to be up there, but it's gorgeous, so i go anyway!) and i'd like to put some container plants up there. the problem is that it's a black roof, so it's going to get HOT and DRY (no hose access, i'd have to haul up water for watering, so minimal is best!) up there in the summer (i'm in chicago, btw). Any suggestions on what I could do for container gardens up there? What takes heat and drought REALLY REALLY well (besides cacti of course). Any and all suggestions for how i can do some gardening are appreciated. Thanks!

  • long term pain in finger?

I have had a persistent pain in my middle finger on my left hand for months now. It started all of a sudden one morning. It feels like it's the tendons or something that hurt. It hurts when I move it, or apply pressure to the underside of my finger (palm side) along the lowest joint and up to the middle joint. Some days it isn't as bad, but some days I can barely use that finger for anything. There's no pain in any of the other fingers. If I sleep with my hands curled or clenched, it is incredibly stiff in the morning and hard to move without pretty moderate to high pain. I plan on going to the doctor in a few weeks and I'll ask them about it when I'm there next, I just thought I'd see if anyone else had suggestions in the meantime. I am 23 and work a desk job but have minimal typing (which makes me lean away from carpal tunnel). Thanks, and i always pick a best answer!

  • women's health question?

for the past few days (maybe 5) i've had extremely dark brown-blackish discharge. It is a medium amount, I wear a pantyliner. I know this may be old blood. I have been on the pill for about 5 years and have never experienced this. I'm halfway through my pack of pills (period about 1.5 weeks ago). I haven't had unprotected sex or missed any pills. There is also some very very minimal cramping. It almost feels like my period, but it's not the right time or the right discharge. Does anyone know if this is something I should have looked into (i just started a new job and my health insurance doesn't kick in for about 2more months) or if I shouldn't worry and just let it work itself out. Any advice is helpful.

    Thanks!

  • can't relax or fall asleep?

I moved to a new city and started a new job about a month ago. Since I've been here I have not slepth through the night once. I wake up exhausted and I am constantly tense. I have tried meditation/relaxation tracks on my ipod, but once they stop, i'm wide awake again. I have a very consistent routine, and I get up very early for work. I exersize in the evenings after I get home from work. Most nights I just lay in bed really tense and anxious and my mind won't shut up and then I can't fall asleep, and when I do, I wake up every hour or two and have to repeat the process. I have tried everything but drugs, which I am reluctant to resort to. This has been going on for a month and I'm EXHAUSTED! If anyone has any suggestions, I really appreciate it.

  • does my cat need a buddy?

my cat used to be a stray, i adopted him and caught him up on all of his shots etc. and moved into an apartment. once he finally got used to the place he did good for a bit, but I work all day and only have about 5 hours in the evening. From the minute i get home to when i close the doors and lock him out of the bedroom he walks around meowing and he seems bored. I keep him out of the bedroom because otherwise he just meows and bothers me and i don't get any sleep. He starts up right away when I get up in the morning too. He has plenty of food and water accessible at all hours. I'm wondering if he's bored and if getting another cat would help keep him entertained? He's very mild mannered and non-aggressive around other cats, even males (he's fixed).
