What is the real difference between requiring all citizens to purchase health insurance?
and the new Ryan plan to do away with Medicare and give seniors vouchers to pay for private insurance?
Wouldn't a bigger pool including the young and healthy go further towards lowering costs overall?
14 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoSo if the debt limit doesn't get raised, won't the interest rate we pay go up and increase our debt anyway?
And how is it better to pay higher interest? Won't that only limit our options further?
10 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoPro-Lifers--your thoughts on terminating an ectopic pregnancy?
(That's one that begins in the fallopian tube rather than the uterus, cannot be carried to term anyway, and places the mother's life in extreme risk)
Just asking, because so many views seem so absolute, as though there were no shades of grey anywhere, ever...
17 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoIf Terry Jones truly had the courage of his convictions, wouldn't he have gone to Pakistan or Saudi Arabia?
to burn a Q'ran in the public square?
5 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoRepublicans--what do you think about the IRS auditing all abortions as the leadership is proposing?
and how do you square this with the stated desirability of smaller government?
http://motherjones.com/politics/2011/03/gop-bill-i...
Bear in mind that the Hyde Act has long prohibited the use of federal funding for abortions except in cases of rape/incest, which is a very small percentage of the total....
Can we afford this radical expansion of the IRS mandate, and if so, where should it end?

3 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoRepublicans want to add an abortion question to our tax forms and have the IRS audit the sources of funds?
How does this jibe with their stated desire for a smaller, less intrusive government? How will it not require more funding for the IRS?
4 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoCons: what would you have said if Obama had instructed the US delegate to veto the Libyan no-fly zone?
Also, what would you have said if we'd abstained like Russia and China did?
20 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoDo you think dictionaries will change their definitions of "blood libel" to match/include Sarah Palin's?
As of now, they still all say it means one thing, and she says it means something completely different.
6 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoShould the EMT course be required for high school graduation?
why or why not?
7 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoShould Senators who want to filibuster have to actually get up and speak to delay a vote?
Or should the threat be sufficient, as it is now?
10 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoAre all of these bills actually being filibustered, or is the threat alone now enough to prevent a vote?
Does the opposition no longer actually have to stand and speak to prevent a vote? How did this come about and what do y'all think of it?
1 AnswerPolitics1 decade agoWhy should lottery winnings be taxed but not inheritances over a million dollars?
It's not hard to argue that inheriting a million bucks is a lot like winning the lottery. What am I missing here?
14 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoWhy the big argument about income tax for those earning over $200,000 net?
If I had the chance to invest all of my income over $199,999.99 back into my business and avoid the higher tax bracket, I'd be stoked.
If we accept that a polarization of wealth has been occurring, shouldn't we reward those who choose to reinvest their earnings into their companies (and therefore the economy as a whole) more than those who choose to sock all of their earnings away in offshore accounts or spend in all summer on the Cote d'Azure?
9 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoGay marriage opponents--about these "civil partnerships" y'all keep talking about...?
Would you favor making them in every way legally equivalent to marriages, including custody/visitation rights, pensions, adoption, taxes, probate, insurance, and so on, just with a different name?
Proponents--if ALL legal benefits/responsibilities of traditional marriages were included in these partnerships, would you be satisfied?
After the papers are signed you may of course describe your relationship however you wish, so how important is the name of the document?
7 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoDo you think pilots should have to go through the new scanners or be "patted down" before every flight?
It seems to me that a pilot doesn't need a weapon to take control of an aircraft, s/he just has to show up for work...or maybe I'm missing something.
6 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoJust which "commonsense reforms" of healthcare have the Republican leadership been talking about lately?
Have they actually been articulated anywhere?
I saw a bill that Boehner had put forth, but it was quite impenetrable, and seemed to lack any specific mechanism for keeping costs down.
11 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoWhy would Mitch McConnell assert that banning earmark spending would not reduce the federal budget?
Jim DeMint and President Obama are on board.....McConnell claims it is "complicated"
