College backpacking in Ecuador & Peru?
I am going to Guayaquil, Ecuador this summer to volunteer. I am going to backpack for an additional month and the one place I have dreamed of going to is Machu PIcchu. I am on a really small budget (about $1,500 for the month) is there any way I can get there with affordability in mind? Will Machu PIcchu be the only place in Peru I could see in a month, considering my budget and transportation limitations? I wanted to do the Inca trail but have no idea how to go about getting that reserved? Should I just keep the extra month backpacking through Ecuador? Is it worth going to Peru on a shoestring budget? I appreciate all the help!
5 AnswersEcuador1 decade agoGraduate program where you travel to different continents?
I went backpacking this summer, was pretty tipsy (so I am questioning the authenticity and accuracy of my memory), but I met a group of graduate students and they told me there was a graduate degree program (something within the bounds of international studies) where you would travel to different continents as a part of your curriculum....(I think something like 4 continents in two years?) Is this true? Does a graduate program like this exist? Or anything similar where international travel is a heavy emphasis?
2 AnswersHigher Education (University +)1 decade agoI need a durable, outdoorsy camera that has good image quality!?
Hey all,
I'm a college student who is about to do some huge traveling around the world, including studying abroad. I am also from Hawaii and love surfing, and go to a school near a mountain and love snowboarding. Most of the cameras I have, survive snowboarding so I'm not too worried about that. I go surfing, hiking and do a bunch of stuff around the ocean and am trying to find a camera that would be durable in SALT water as well as fresh water lakes etc.
I had a Rollei X-8 Sports camera, but I took it surfing with my friends today and water came through the lens and the battery case (even though it was completely shut and secure, and I cleaned the battery container area before going in). Basically the camera sucked, and it was from an unreputable company.
I am trying to find a camera that I can take with me hiking, mountain biking, snowboarding, surfing, etc. that will last.
I also want it to have decent image quality with (hopefully) IS because I can't really be stable when I'm mid-incline and see an awesome view of something and want to snap it.
I'm trying to put everything up on a portfolio as well, and am getting semi into art and want to keep a decent looking portfolio ... hopefully going in to travel blogging. (That's another story too!)
Any suggestions?!
3 AnswersCameras1 decade agoDouble major & minor vs 3 minors and random classes?
Okay, I'm not an over achiever I promise...I just have a passion for learning and try to take as much credits as I possibly can a semester.
I am a junior and I am currently trying to major in Public Relations. I can double major in Psychology if I stick with just psychology and PR classes without going "out of my field" e.g. doing art / music / political science stuff that I also want to do... If I go this route and stick with my field classes I'd have a double major in Psychology & Public relations w/ a minor in Spanish..
I'm just wondering if that would even be worth not being able to do "random classes." I am about 9 credits off of getting a double major so I'm so close (I have a minor already) but I'm wondering how much of a significance a double major actually has in the work field / graduate school application process? I'm applying for the AmeriCorps and PeaceCorps, do they pay any attention to that kind of stuff also?
3 AnswersHigher Education (University +)1 decade agoFor College: Money vs. Passion, what should take precedence realistically?
I have a friend who is in college right now. Freshman year, first semester.
He has a full-ride scholarship (with the ROTC Air Force) as long as he sticks with a technical major (e.g. Civil Engineering).
He wants to become a pilot or do something positive with the air force, but doesn't see himself doing anything in engineering at all. He says his passion (if the air force doesn't work out) is something like construction management...
He went to his adviser and there is no other option besides Civil Engineering if he wants to keep the scholarship money. It will take him 5 years to graduate and he will be swamped with classes the entire time, miserable.
He is considering dropping out of college because he doesn't like it at all (wants to get out as soon as possible).
How can I counsel through with him? I think college would be a good thing for him (he's first-generation) and he's a bit discouraged. I want him to get motivated but he is doing something he completely hates and as a result, he doesn't do the homework as well as he could .... he would be much more passionate and do much more work and learn a lot more if he did a major relevant to what he wanted to learn.
Any comments? Suggestions?

4 AnswersCommunity Service1 decade agoWhat size snowboard should I get?
I'm 5'8", ~135lbs, foot size 9.5. I'm an intermediate rider, I can carve slightly down black diamonds, easily down blues and greens. I'm starting to park, but ain't hardcore about it, I love freestyling on the mountain, 180'ing off sides and goin' through trees..
The board I want to get has two choices, 150 or 154 and I was wonedering which would be better for me, a 150 or 154? I think I'm extremely content on a 152, but I couldn't find good boards at 152. Is getting a good board on sale at a size 150 or 154 going to be extremely detrimental for me?? Would it be better if I got a shorter board or a longer one?

1 AnswerYahoo Answers1 decade agoSeattle, WA -> Honolulu (Flight Question)?
I'm a college student, going from Spokane -> Seattle -> Honolulu (and back)
For the Seattle, WA -> Honolulu (round trip) tickets, they are priced at $570. Is this reasonable? I am departing on December 19th and arriving back in Seattle on the 10th of January. These dates are definitely flexible.
I am not picky and am willing to do anything (24 hour airport stays, 3+ layovers, etc.) as long as it means a cheaper ticket.
Are there any deals for college students or ways I could get a hold of cheaper tickets?
3 AnswersSeattle1 decade agoSpontaneous US Roadtrip?
I'm from Hawaii so I've never got to see the continental US and all it has to offer. I'm in my 2nd year at Washington State University and want to just hit the road one summer and go on a roadtrip around the US...
I'm planning on getting a car and just going on a road trip. I want to hit up Minneapolis, Chicago, Ohio, New York City, and Tennessee for sure.
I have a couple questions:
1) How much money would I need to save up in order to do a full US roadtrip?
2) Would it be sketch for me to sleep in my car?
3) Are there certain places I HAVE to stop by at? That are places I "can't miss" because it's too awesome?
4) Do you think a month is enough time to do a full circle of the US?
5) Are there any essentials I need to bring?
6) How likely is it for my car to break down / get stolen on the way?
Thanks for all your help. I really want to make this a reality before I graduate. It's one of those things on my bucket list that I feel I won't be able to do once I'm done with college.
5 AnswersOther - United States1 decade agoCreating a website for student-run television station. Need help understanding file upload concepts, etc?
Hello there!
I work for Cable 8 Productions, a Washington State University student-run broadcasting television station. We are in the process of taking down our entire website and launching a NEW website with a "blog like" feature. From what the webmaster was telling me, it incorporated a database, php and perl and basically every staff member would have a username/pass and could "upload" pictures/news posts etc. that would be directly posted to their shows page and to the home page of the Cable 8 website.
I was wondering a couple of things (if you guys had the time) First person to answer it in detail will get the Best Answer:
1) .FLV format v YouTube
We had a debate about whether or not to upload them to YouTube and embed it on to the site or just directly upload .flv on to the website? What are the pros/cons of both? How long does an upload for a 25minute/45 minute show take to go on to YouTube? Is there a format the video HAS to be in to get the "view in high quality" option? And is that embeddable on to our website? Should we instead just use .FLV and have them upload that via our own website?
2. If we did have them use .flv video formats to directly upload on to our website, is there a code out there to have it directly embeded in to the website? I'm confident my webmaster can find it (if you can't find it) but we just need to know if this is even possible. If you can link to the script or information about this, that would be great.
And lastly:
How long would it take to create a "blog-like" website? What is happening is basically it will be like a blog website where the front page has a bunch of "feeds" with an image and a condensed description of that show/photo album/news update and basically when you click the picture/description or (the box in general...everything will be on an embossed colored box) it takes you to that specific article. Do you think this is an easy interface to navigate with? Will this be effective?
Thanks so much for your help, any input would be great!

6 AnswersBeer, Wine & Spirits1 decade agoGoing in for a Chili's Grill & Bar interview tomorrow. Tips? Tricks? Anyone done this already?
Going in for my second interview tomorrow. I'm going to be dressing in a black buttoned down collared shirt with slacks. Do you think this is too professional/not professional enough? What do you think I should bring up? Should I talk a lot (because I tend to?) or just try to keep it chill? Any tips and tricks from people who have already gone through a 2nd interview through Chili's? I'm 18 years old and a college student and I'm going for a summer seasonal job so should I emphasize the fact that I plan to return to Chili's every summer I come back?
Thanks for the help. Best answer will be chosen promptly before tomorrow!

I'm 5'8" and 125lbs. I want to gain more muscle and began lifting weights with some friends about a month ago. We've been going about 2-4 times a week. I'm thinking about getting Whey protein but haven't bought it yet.
Is it possible for me to gain significant muscle (visually) in 2 months (by Dec 15ish)? What can I do to optimize my chances of gaining muscle?
