Why do Wikipedians hate the protection of intellectual property?
See the reaction to this very rational Spanish law:
http://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/foundation-l/...
It seems that Wikipedians hate the very right of creative content producers to protect their handiwork. Why is that?
3 AnswersWikipedia9 years agoIs User:Fae lying about his plagiarism on Wikimedia Commons?
Sometimes on Wikipedia and related projects, high-placed administrators (and in this case, he's even a trustee of the Wikimedia UK charity) will get caught red-handed, lying about how they've plagiarized other people's copyrighted content. Is this current situation...
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion...
...another such case of a Wikipedian telling falsehoods and claiming that the criticisms are "harassment"?
1 AnswerWikipedia9 years agoWhy is the Wikimedia UK charity covering up simple questions?
It appears that now that the Wikimedia UK has gotten their government's permission to operate as a "charity", they don't want to answer any questions about the possibility that they fraudulently misstated to the Charity Commission their role in controlling the content on Wikipedia. It's all over the news: http://www.examiner.com/wiki-edits-in-national/wik...
3 AnswersWikipedia9 years agoHow do I coach 7 & 8 year old girls to be more aggressive going after the ball?
I'm coaching a team of 11 girls, mostly 7 and some 8 years old. A few of them have the "eye of the tiger" and really get after the ball to take control of it, and the game. However, most of my girls are still hesitant to really attack the ball, unless it is exactly in front of them, and it's not being contested by any other player. Are there some drills that will build assertiveness with the ball? Some motivational thing I can say?
2 AnswersWomen's Football (Soccer)10 years agoTo whom does Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales owe $30,000?
I heard that he owes a colleague a personal loan of $30K, but I'd need to see substantive proof.
7 AnswersWikipedia10 years agoHas the mainstream media ever discovered how much Jimmy Wales is worth?
If you search for Jimmy Wales, Google even tries to autocomplete the query as "Jimmy Wales net worth". So, obviously this is a popular question. Why hasn't the mainstream media done any investigative journalism to find out once and for all?
3 AnswersWikipedia10 years agoWhat was on the secret page 25 of the Wikipedia Editors Survey 2011?
Here's the page: http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Fil...
Obviously, it was censored. What is the Wikimedia Foundation trying to cover up this time?
2 AnswersWikipedia1 decade agoHow do you think Mark Bolland's Wikipedia clients feel now?
http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/gadgets-an...
The news has revealed that (likely) Mark Bolland's PR firm has been caught editing Wikipedia to spruce up articles about clients. Not that there's anything wrong with that, wasn't it rather unprofessional to work on multiple clients' articles, all from the same IP address, thus bringing down the whole portfolio when the account came into question?
Isn't there some sort of manual or e-book that will help businesses learn how to more successfully manipulate Wikipedia?
1 AnswerWikipedia1 decade agoDid Danese Cooper quit as Wikimedia CTO, or was she fired?
Danese Cooper lasted only 16 months with the Wikimedia Foundation as the Chief Technical Officer. Do you think she was asked to submit her resignation, or is she leaving of her own volition?

1 AnswerWikipedia1 decade agoWhat's the best web application for project management?
Our business group manages about 200 projects per year, with each of them lasting anywhere from two to ten weeks. We're disappointed with managing the project status with Microsoft Excel, as it's not an elegant way to query the database for more useful sub-sets like "new projects", or "projects that Fred is working on", or "projects about customer satisfaction".
Is there a free, password-protected web application that allows for simple project status management, without getting too complicated? Each project would only have about 10 fields to fill, such as:
* Start date
* Statement of work received
* Purchase order number
* Cost
* Vendor
* Key stakeholder(s)
* Project manager
* Current status (Design, Fielding, Reporting, Closed)
* Topic(s) addressed
* Summary of results
* Close date
Any solution has to be simple, or the internal managers are going to balk about having to learn yet another software application.
3 AnswersOther - Internet1 decade agoIs there someone on Examiner.com who focuses on the subject of Wikipedia?
I'd like to read what a citizen journalist has to say about Wikipedia, and I trust Examiner to provide reliable work in this area, but I can't seem to find if there's someone on Examiner who is dedicated specifically to Wikipedia as his or her beat.
4 AnswersWikipedia1 decade agoIf Wales, Gardner, and Moeller all had a bad batch of crispy Mandarin beef and perished, who would take over?
We're talking about Jimmy Wales, Sue Gardner, and Erik Moeller, all of the Wikimedia Foundation, of course. And don't belittle the chances of this hypothetical happening -- it already came terrifyingly close, once already: http://www.flickr.com/photos/frieda/1729725629/
Now that Mike Godwin is gone, and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees is the ineffectual Ting Chen, who would assume command of the Wikimedia Foundation operations?
3 AnswersWikipedia1 decade agoHow did Amazon come to get preferential treatment on Wikipedia's ISBN tool?
If you check out this link as an example:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:BookSources/0...
How is it that Amazon is the only bookseller that got to be listed (along with Google) in the "Online text" portion of the tool results? Who developed that Special:BookSources tool? Who specifically determined that Amazon is the only bookseller that displays online text? Is Amazon the only online bookseller that features some previews of book text? It would appear not:
http://search.barnesandnoble.com/From-the-Mixed-up...
Could any of this have to do with the fact that in late 2006 Amazon invested $10 million into Jimmy Wales' for-profit corporation, Wikia, Inc.?
2 AnswersWikipedia1 decade agoWhy did the Wikimedia Foundation hire Q2 Consulting for a study?
It seems like it might have been a failure to solicit competitive bids on the part of Philippe Beaudette, former employee of Q2 Consulting:
2 AnswersWikipedia1 decade agoDoes Jimmy Wales edit with a NPOV when it comes to pretty brunettes?
There seems to be a pattern with the Wikipedia edits of co-founder Jimmy Wales, when he decides to monkey with the article biographies of attractive, dark-headed women:

What gives?
3 AnswersWikipedia1 decade agoIs it true that the Wikimedia Foundation paid someone to check the race of 1,000 penises?
Supposedly, this was in the news --
http://www.examiner.com/wiki-edits-in-national/wik...
Can we believe that, though? The guy sounds like a critic of Wikipedia, and I've been told that Wikipedia critics only lie, never tell the truth.
6 AnswersWikipedia1 decade agoWhere was the video for "Dry Land" by Marillion shot?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8xe9E8RxBk
I'm most interested in knowing where the waterfall locations were (there are two distinct spots, at 3:03, and at 3:36). Also, would like to know which geyser that is (2:06).
2 AnswersGeography1 decade agoWhy does Wikipedia allow an article about The Swingtips, but not about SEO 2.0?
Wikipedia apparently allows a subject to create an article about themselves, a swing band:
http://www.examiner.com/wiki-edits-in-national/swi...
However, they will not allow an article about SEO 2.0, which is covered by multiple reliable sources and over 20,000 Google hits:

What would be the reason for that?
3 AnswersWikipedia1 decade agoWhy do some Wikipedia editors so crave the attention and adoration of the cult leader Jimbo Wales?
Seriously, what is wrong with people like Augusto Antonio and OlEnglish?

You would think they were brought up with not enough praise from their parents, so they desperately seek it in the most illogical places.
