Name of a film in which women turn out to be aliens?
Film is black and white. Think it's a British film.
Man gets married who gets promoted after some other scientist dies.
He's some kind of scientist. One scientist has already made a discovery but dies just before being able to communicate it.
His boss comes to dinner. We see a shot of his wife picking up the hot oven tray with bare hands and she only pretends to need the oven gloves when she is being watched. Beacuse it turns out she is an alien.
The alien wife realises she loves her husband and tells him all about it. She's now in trouble with her superiors in space and is killed by some kind of psychic noise storm although her husband tries to protect her by putting his arms around her.
Man goes back to work. He realises that all women are involved and there is nothing he can do. Turns out the secretary was involved in the death of his predecessor because he got too close to the truth.
Can anyone remember what this film is called?
1 AnswerMovies11 months agoHow to carry a tee shirt if you take it off in hot weather while walking?
So it's hot weather and you decide to take your tee shirt off to let the sweat evaporate.
The question is, how do you carry it if you don't have a bag with you?
I've tried balancing it on one shoulder and this works - if it's not windy. Otherwise I seem to end up holding it in one hand and arriving cool and refreshed, but with a sweaty tee shirt that has been in my clammy hand.
What do others do?
1 AnswerFashion & Accessories2 years agoAt what stage would you consider a zip to be undone?
Semantics: it occurred to me that even when a jeans zip is fully zipped, you can often see the brass bits to the sides of the slider. And some designs of jeans mean a slightly less than full engagement of the teeth is inevitable.
(One particular brand's jeans are notorious for this to the point that it has been suggested that the brand owns a copyright on the slightly unzipped design...)
So obviously this leads to the question - at what point is a zip unzipped?
I have attached a montage of 9 photos from
top left - as far up as the slider will go
(let's call this photo 1)
to bottom right - as far down as the slider will go
(let's call this photo 9)
At what point would you think 'those flies are undone'?
1 AnswerFashion & Accessories4 years agoOrigin of the fluorescent light start up energy myth?
As a child, I was told that switching the fluorescent light on in the kitchen used as much energy as leaving it switched on for an hour, so it was considered best to leave it switched on all evening.
While it is true that starting a fluorescent tube on an old-fashioned switch-start ballast does require more power than running it, the true comparison is that switching on the light only uses as much energy as leaving it switched on for a few seconds. So, really, it would have been better to have switched that light off when we left the room.
Nevertheless, this myth is pervasive and I have heard it from other people apart from my mother. Has anyone any idea of where this myth originates from?
1 AnswerPhysics4 years agoSuggestions for late-night snacks (don t need to be healthy)?
Whenever I look up late-night snack ideas on the web, all I ever find is low-calorie boiled carrots in a mould sauce with apple stuff and it never appeals.
So what do people actually eat that s worth recommending?
6 AnswersCooking & Recipes5 years agoGirls: would you be put off a boy if he slurped while eating watermelon (at home, not in a posh restaurant).?
My friend said good luck getting a girlfriend if you slurp watermelon like that! . I just thought it wise not to get sticky juice all over myself and the sofa.
Opinions please... :)
3 AnswersSingles & Dating5 years agoNow I've washed all the bowls, what shall I do with them?
My housemates have left me alone for the weekend. I almost wish one of them wouldn't wash up after herself because she does it so badly.
Having re-washed every single bowl in the kitchen (the plates weren't too bad...), I now have 10 clean bowls.
This may be the first time in ages that all the bowls can truly be said to be clean.
10 pts to whoever comes up with the best suggestion as to what to do with them. The best answer will be selected by myself on no particular criteria - i.e. I'll pick the one I think is the best one and reserve the right to be completely unfair in my choice.
4 AnswersFriends5 years agoWho are PJS and YMA?
So apparently it is common knowledge on the interweb who PJS and YMA are!
But a worldwideweb search from the UK isn't bringing up any answers.
Question 1. Names of the two people referred to as PJS and YMA.
Question 2. Why can't I find the answer online? Is the web really that censored?
Best answer award will go to first correct answer to question 1 (once this information goes public and the answer can be verified).
3 AnswersCurrent Events5 years agoGirls - Would you consider a Terry's Chocolate Orange to be a good Valentine's day present?
Seen in Tesco Express, discounted to £1.00 next to sign stating 'IDEAL FOR VALENTINES'.
I thought it would make a stange present (unless the recipient was unusually fond of Terry's Chocolate Oranges and was unlikely to have one already). I'd have thought it would have not been expensive or thoughtful enough.
Opinions please?
1 AnswerValentine's Day5 years agoCould my mobile phone network (in UK) be giving me a bad signal deliberately?
Sometimes I get a good signal, but there are many occasions when I don't. I have even stood next to someone who had a signal on my network (where I used to get a signal) but had no signal myself.
It did occur to me that my (inexpensive non-smart Samsung) phone could be on the way out, but then I went on holiday overseas and, on roaming, consistently had a far better signal than I get in the UK.
Could it be that as a long-standing contract customer I get low priority on available signal, or is that not possible?
1 AnswerMobile Phones & Plans6 years agoWhat should I do about my brother's friend's girlfriend blocking me on Facebook?
On behalf of a female friend:
My brother's friend Peter who I have known since he was 10 has recently been persuaded by his girlfriend to block me on facebook. We often play board games in sibling groups and have a perfectly innocent friendship. We only ever meet in the presence of my brother, and sometimes Peter's brother as well.
This is concerning to me as I mostly just update him on whether my brother Sammy is awake, and ask for advice on games like My Singing Monsters. I now have to rely on Wikipedia, which is a lot less reliable. Also, without me waking Sammy up to get him to answer the phone, he and Peter would never meet socially.
It had been previously mentioned by my brother that Peter's girlfriend told him she was getting ''well annoyed with your sister keep sending Peter messages''. Peter has kept secrets from her in the past, such as coming to our house to play Dungeons and Dragons. Around this time there could have been messages about me being a 'Dungeon Master' which could be misinterpreted. Or maybe he wants to keep his geek side hidden. She really hates my brother (she actually banned Peter from seeing him for one whole year).
I do not often send messages - the last conversation we had was 6 months ago (should my brother buy a desktop computer or not).
I have never met this girl, wanted to invite her over with Peter. My brother says she's bound to hate me as much as she hates him (though we are quite different) and probably won't come anyway.
Thanks!
1 AnswerFriends6 years agoWould you wear these jeans? (Photo)?
If only for the comedy value. Mis-spelled 'fashion' and spare apostrophe... hmm.
2 AnswersFashion & Accessories6 years agoPoll: Would you rather find love in a world in which no one else can, or be the only one who can't in a world in which everyone else does?
Obviously in the first scenario, at least one other person finds love (with you).
If I'm honest with myself, I don't know which I'd choose. Obviously I'd choose the second, but not sure that I would RATHER that were the case.
4 AnswersSingles & Dating6 years agoName of film about golfer in tournament who loses tournament in order to get a course as a hole in one?
I think the golfer was Australian, not sure. He could have won the tournament, but decided he would get more personal satisfaction in endlessly re-taking one of the courses until he scored a hole in one.
May not have been a hole in one, perhaps he was just bad at that course and would not accept a Bogey on his mark sheet.
His caddy despaired, but it was a happy ending, I seem to remember.
Anyone remember anything about this film?
1 AnswerGolf6 years agoBaked beans and tinned tomatoes on toast? Nice?
Just (ie no herbs or spices or prolonged cooking) baked beans, tinned tomatoes, and toast. Optional: add canned sweetcorn.
A friend of mine reckons this is nice.
Does anyone agree?

5 AnswersEtiquette7 years agoWould you feel a bit cheated if you asked an electrician to carry out an inspection and he sent someone else?
I can't help feeling miffed about this. I asked a specific electrician to come and carry out a periodic inspection of the electrics at home, based on the fact that I had seen his workmanship, and we had a common acquaintance who seemed to get on with him.
We agreed he would come and do the work at a particular time and date.
Without warning, on the day, someone else turns up, says he works for him. I let him get on with it (wish I hadn't as he didn't seem very knowledgeable to be frank), and hopefully he did the tests alright (albeit his test tools were, by his own admission, slightly knackered).
I can't help thinking it was a bit off that I pay for one person, and get another person entirely.
Of course, this is probably a feeling based on my opinion of the bloke who DID show up, but do other people feel it is bad to accept a job as a person and then send some other random guy? Would I have been justified in telling the substitute 'no idea who you are, please don't come in' ???
