  • Physics Help - Snell's Law?

I'm not looking for the actual answer, but a step by step on how to solve it, and an answer on if I'm setting the problem up properly to solve it.

Problem: A light ray beginning in fused quartz (n=1.46) makes an angle of 45° with the normal line. Upon entering unknown material, the light ray is refracted and makes an angle of 22° with the normal line. Find the index of refraction for the unknown material. Use Snell's Law.

    Snell's Law: n1 sin θ1= n2 sin θ2. (subscript the 1s and 2s)

I think this is how I set it up to solve it:

    1.46 sin45 = n2 sin22 (subscript 2 on n2)

But from there, I'm not sure how to solve for n2 (subscript 2 on n2).

  • telephone junction box?

OK... I just moved into this old fixer-upper. I've got knowledge of just about everything I need ... except telephone wiring. Here's what I've got.

AT&T phone line comes into house. Has a ground and 2 cables. Cables are split, where there used to be a junction box. Does the telephone company provide the junction box, or do I, the customer? AT&T never came to the house to turn on the telephone, just flipped a switch somewhere. Here is a link to photos I took of the "mess" / "problem" I ran into.

    http://s1020.photobucket.com/albums/af327/yahooans...

The white cable you see is the cable listed above. The cable above it is a gray cable with Red, Black, Yellow, and Green wire. I need to connect these so that I can use the phone jacks upstairs. First floor has the above (top) mentioned cable. 2nd floor has the RYGB cable.

    Thanks in advance!!

  • I my toddler son was counting my teeth, so I counted his. He has an extra tooth, is this okay?

He just went to the dentist, and he goes on a regular basis. Nobody at the office has said anything about his teeth being weird... or maybe one of the dental hygienists didn't catch it? (they are all interns). Anyway, I counted 10 teeth on the bottom, and 11 teeth on top. On his left side of his mouth on the top he has an extra tooth up front... sort of crooked. I never noticed it before I was just examining his mouth. All his teeth are perfectly straight and spaced, but then between his top left central incisor and lateral incisor, he has an extra. It's not an extra molar. Is this strange??? Should I call his pediatric dentist on Monday?? Should I be worried about this?

  • What do I say to my mother in law? Help me write back to her please?? I'm at a loss...?

I am a woman who speaks my mind. However, I'm at a loss as to what I should say to my mother in law. Here's the jist of it: My husband physically abused me for right at five years. This past October, it got really ugly and he abused me for over 5 hours in front of his mother. She just sat in the kitchen and didn't do a thing. He cut off the phones, all kids of crazy stuff. The following day it happened again (he imprisoned me in the house so I couldn't leave that night). I finally got him to kick me out of the house, and I ran for help. I threw his butt in jail, and his mom started harassing me.

Here's the thing... It's Christmas and my two sons miss their sister and their grandma. (Their sister is from a previous relationship my husband had.) My mother in law sent a Christmas card specifically to my older son. My younger son is upset that he did not get one. It read (in addition to the card's text): "Dear [my son's name], Santa is visiting my house too. I hope to see you. I miss you. Love, Grandma"

What do I do? I have a full order of protection against my husband, and even DFS thinks he is crazy and that my kids should have a restraining order against him (which they do). My husband never allowed me to get a job, and when his mom bonded him out of jail just before Thanksgiving, he harassed my boss and coworkers until I was fired. He landed back in jail and this time she has to post her house to get him out (which she already did to get him out the first time, so now he's stuck in there - yay!). I know he can't post bond, so I'm not worried about him showing up.

I just don't know how to respond to the fact she sent my one son a card and not the other, and that she did not directly ask me to bring them out to her house. I'm simply at a loss. I want to write her a letter letting her know I have no problem with her, only her son, and that the boys miss her too. Becuase they do, and I want her to be in their lives (I'm working on giving their Dad supervised visitation). But I also want to make it clear that they will not be left out there alone, and that I will be bringing someone out there with me (which will be my mother probably) when I bring them out on Christmas. (I need backup in case she starts harassing me about what I'm doing to her son [divorcing him, throwing him in jail, taking our kids from him, etc.]). Can you guys help me out with what I should say to her?? I don't know what to say. I cannot call out there, because the house number is listed on the restraining order as a number he cannot call me from (and therefore I cannot call), because he was living with her when she bonded him out of jail.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Olympus D-560 won't take a picture. It will turn on, but the red light blinks and it just won't take a picture?

I put brand new batteries in it, it takes either a Lithium-Ion AA pack thing or 2 AA's. I have tried both, multiple brands of both. Camera turns on, and will let me view pictures, it just won't take pictures. Any suggestions?

I just saw the headstone on DOOL for Belle. I've not seen it since about November, and finally had a chance to pick it back up. What happened to her?!

  • How do I cut glass bottles into small circles?

I really like these earrings, but I'd like to learn how to make them myself, for I have a few pink and yellow glass bottles I'd like to use instead of these colors. I'd like to know how to cut the bottles into shapes either squares or circles like these. Link below.

  • Can I take legal action?

I created six flyers for a kickboxing company. They then took my flyers and did not pay me for them, and took my proofs and paid SOMEONE ELSE to modify them a little bit. They still look just like my originals, only there is slightly different wording. Can I take legal action? These will be posted all over town (St. Louis, MO and surrounding areas) with credit given to the person who only added a few lines of text!! I designed the entire graphics and spent well over 50 hours on the project.

  • What type of citation format would I use for this document?

I need it to be in MLA format. I'm just not sure what type of document this would be. I don't need you to give me the actual written format, just the type of document I should use it as. I'm writing a psychology paper on Lindsay Lohan and this source was used throughout my paper.

  • Help me out with some Disney-inspired little quotes, please?

We're going to Disneyland and I'm making some envelopes to leave behind for housekeeping. We'll be leaving 5 total.

They're all going to say "To Mousekeeping" at the top and then on a ribbon I'm going to write 5 different things on 5 different envelopes. Here are the ones I have so far:

    1. Thank you for cleaning up our dust (Cinderella)

    2. Thanks for cleaning our clubhouse! (Mickey Mouse)

I'm trying to come up with 3 more cute little sayings. Throw me your ideas. I need them to be Disney-inspired.

    Thanks!

  • Why is my "i' key stuck as a capital I in Microsoft Word?

I noticed it is not doing it here online, so I am assuming it is simply Word. When I go to type a sentence, such as

I'm into igloos in icy Alaska.

In the morning it is cold.

In Word it will look like this automatically:

I'm Into Igloos In Icy Alaska.

In the morning It Is cold.

If the "I" comes after another letter, it will stay lowercase. But if it is the first letter, it will automatically capitalize itself. I have to type a word like "uin" instead of "in" and then go back and erase the extra letter to make the "i" lowercase. I have tried shutting down Word as well as restarting the computer, and turning the computer off, letting it sit, and rebooting it. I've also disconnected and reinstalled my keyboard.

  • What international current events can I write a research paper on, and take a side about?

I'm stuck. I simply cannot figure out what I want to do my research paper on. I run into good ideas, but then realize I cannot take a side. It has to be a research/persuasive paper. Any suggestions? (Must be international, no USA stuff.)

  • How old was your child when you left them alone in the bath?

My kids are only 1 1/2 and almost 3, so of course I still stay with them when they're in the bathroom. But I was just wondering how old are kids when they start being left alone? My 3 year old has this huge privacy thing, so I only let him stay in the bathroom when he is actually going potty (which is rare unfortunately).

  • On and off again, the perils of potty-training boys?

A year and a half ago, I traveled 800 miles to visit my grandparents for a few months. My grandmother had bought a potty for my older son. Surprisingly, he was immediately potty trained... I could not believe it. He literally trained himself in a day (or less).

When we got home, we had the same potty with us. He decided he was not potty trained. A few months ago we went back to visit and brought the potty with us. Again, potty trained.

Now that we are home, he will only go on the potty if he is in the bath tub and realizes he has to poop. Any suggestions?

I'd like to start him in preschool but he has to be potty trained. When we visit my grandparents, I don't have to ask him if he has to potty or anything. I do this (ask him) here where I live, because that is the only way I can get him to sit on it (the potty).

He will be 3 in mid-March. He wears Pull-Ups.. the Cool Alert ones. He doesn't care if the designs fade. He used to care if the Pull-Ups felt funny when he peed in them, but now he doesn't care. He wears Night Time Pull Ups at night. AKA, he does not wear regular diapers, only I think Pull Ups are just diapers for big kids. He does have big-boy underpants, and training pants, but he will just pee straight through them and not even seem to care.

  • Which is right: 1940s -or- 1940's?

Context: This play is set in the 1940’s and is a fascinating account of how most of the characters in the play are extremely unsatisfied with their present circumstances.

I was doing a peer edit and said it should say "1940s" but my teacher disagreed. However, my teacher is wrong a lot and is corrected constantly by the class.

  • What can I make to bring to a Super Bowl party that will impress people? It has to travel 1 1/2 hours though?

We were invited to our first Super Bowl party away from home. The people who are there think I'm a ditzy young mom who doesn't know how to cook, etc. Yes, I am young (21), but I also have more education than they do... and less experience with cooking (they hear my husband's funny stories about me, such as when I stopped by the worksite one day to drop lunch off for all the guys, and I asked them what they do when the air compressor runs out of air...)

I want to make something that can travel easy in the car. Minor finishing can be done at the house I'm going to. I am open to pretty much anything, and my skill level I would say is Average/Above Average. I've been cooking since I was 9-ish, but I can't really improvise, I follow recipes closely.

  • Guilt about tattoo decision question?

My husband is against tattoos but is open to the idea of me getting one since it will have actual meaning (lol-as if they don't??!!). I really want one and it's a symbol of the kids. What I want is a unicorn (I've been collecting them my whole life) and its mane to be both their first names. I have it designed and my husband's uncle who does tattoos said that is is very do-able. So I ahve been thinking about it and I decided that maybe I want one of each the boys, one on each wrist. But, I feel guilty now becuase I know what I want for my younger son, but not my older one. For my younger son, I want a little glow worm (long story, but his nickname is "Bug"). But I have no idea what I want done for my older son. I was thinking maybe a blue letter block with the letter J. But I feel bad becuase my older son really don't have a nickname like our younger son. Anyone experienced this type of guilt before?

  • What does fondant taste like? ?

What I am doing is ordering custom made ants that are one inch. They are going to be on my son's birthday cake (he will be 2). I cannot decide which I should go with: icing, or fondant? They will be black. They are going to stand up. Would fondant be the best way to do these? Thank you in advance. There will also be an anthill. What do you think that should be made of? It will be completely edible. Also- these will be made in Roswell, NM and travel to Webster Groves, MO (960 miles).
