  • What is the mathematical equation to determine fuel costs?

Ok, so I just want to know what the mathematical equation would be to compare different vehicles, with their own respective fuel consumption rates multiplied by a fixed gas rate & a fixed city travelling distance.

I'm Canadian, so the measurements would be in Litres.

    Example :

Car #1 = 9.9 L/100 KM - At a rate of $1.30/Litre for fuel, how much would it cost to travel 500 KM's?

Car #2 = 8.9 L/100 KM. At a rate of $1.30/Litre for fuel, how much would it cost to travel 500 KM's?

I'm more interested in the mathematical equation, as I need to compare a few cars. 500 KM's is what I typically travel bi-weekly.

  • Have you ever heard sounds or voices right before you fall asleep?

This is something that's happened to me more than once, and now that it's happened to me just minutes ago (and since I now have free time on my hands) I thought I'd post my question about this online.

Every now and then, just as I'm about to fall asleep....that moment before I slip into unconsciousness I will hear the voice(s) of people or sometimes faint music. Keep in mind, this always seems to happen when I'm alone.

At that precise moment, as I hear the voices/sounds I'll wake up and of course....no more sounds. And no....I don't hear voices all the time (I'm not some nutjob....ugh....whatever).

So is there a rational explanation for this?

  • Can you install/use a winch on a mid-sized car?

    I've got a mid-sized car (Hyundai Elantra).

I was just wondering if it's possible to install & use a winch on my car, for light-duty applications. It's not something I'd be using daily, but for emergencies.

For example : A car skids on ice, and ends up jumping the curb. Now the car is stuck there, and cannot be reversed or moved forward as the wheels keep spinning. I would then use my winch (with a couple of J-Hooks) to pull it down (off the curb), so it's being pulled maybe 3 or 4 feet max.

So, I just want to know if this is feasible. I understand that most vehicles a winch is attached to, are either pickup trucks or SUV's, but is it possible? Can it work?

  • What is the purpose of the little white plastic cap/cover inside a liquor bottle?

I've always wondered what that little white plastic cap/cover is for; the one that sits on top of the opening. If you're not sure of what I mean, let me explain....

So you open up the liquor (I.E : Jack Daniels or Crown Royal....the only hard liquor that I drink, and they both have this cap) bottle cap from the outside (just like on any 2 Litre soda pop plastic bottle), and what should be a clear opening is actually a white, plastic cap/cover that has slits in it.

I never understood what that's for. I imagine it's for pouring attatchments (I.E: liquor pour spout), but that's just speculation.

So....can anybody verify what the heck that plastic cap is there for? I've been drinking these two drinks for like 10 years now, and I still don't know. ;)

  • Can you reccommend a portable heater for use in a basement?

I live in southern Ontario, and these days it's pretty darn cold. My basement especially is so cold I just can't tolerate going down there anymore.

There isn't any leaks or anything like that but it's really cold.

I tried one of those wooden cabinet quartz heaters / 1500 watts / 6 elements with 5200 BTU's, but it didn't do anything. It practically made no impact whatsoever.

I'm looking for a portable heater for use in a non-ventilated area. It should be powerful enough to heat up approx. 50 feet by 50 feet. My ceiling is like 7 feet high.

Because it's non ventilated, I was hoping to find an electric heater with maybe 60,000 BTU's. To be honest I don't even know how many BTU's is a good number but clearly 5200 didn't do anything.

Can you recommend a good portable heater and perhaps a square footage to BTU guideline/chart?

  • What is the biggest aquarium canister filter?

    Let me elaborate;

When I say "biggest", what I'm referring to is the number of gallons the aquarium filter is rated for. For example, in my research, I could not find a canister filter that was rated for more than 300 gallons.

EHEIM makes one that's rated for 300 gallons, but nothing bigger.

Ultimately, I'm looking for a canister filter that's rated for 1000 gallons. Keep in mind that it's for a stock tank that's above ground. I've had problems with EHEIM's aquarium canister filters because their motors are designed to work with gravity; meaning a typical aquarium setup where the water is elevated (on a stand) and the filter sits directly below it.

My setup is a stock tank, so the filter would be sitting flush with the stock tank (both on the floor) so the motor/impeller has to be strong enough to draw the water in. I purchased a pond filter, but now I need the canister part which actually holds the filter media.

  • What type of a rod should I use to fish ethernet cable?

I plan on fishing ethernet cabling throughout my house (between several floors). I've seen various types of rods/snakes to aid/assist in this job but I'm not sure which particular rod/snake would best assist me.

Can you recommend a product that would help me with my job? A rod/snake that's 100 feet should suffice.

  • Bearded Dragon(s) in a 79 gallon aquarium.?

I've got a 79 gallon aquarium, and I've decided to move my fish to smaller aquarium so that I can get a Bearded Dragon.

My understanding is that I have to buy :

    - UVB Lighting

    - Bedding (What type would you recommend?)

    - Some driftwood for them to climb up on

    - Screen/Mesh top (for ventilation); right now it's a glass top.

    - Hiding area (cave)

    - Hygrometer

Please let me know if I've missed anything. My main concern is it safe to have 2 bearded dragons in this size tank? I've read some articles online that suggest one may dominate the other, and they may even fight to the death. Is there any validity to this, or just grossly inaccurate information?

I'm joining www.beardeddragon.org to get more answers, but thought I'd post this in the mean time.

So...is it ok to buy 2 bearded dragons for this size tank????

  • How can I cool a garbage can?

I have a plastic Rubbermaid Toughneck garbage bin. I am looking for a way to keep it cooled. And no, keeping it in a "cold room" or outside is not a feasible solution.

I am looking to keep it cooled with the ability to control the degree of coldness with a thermostat/controller; like a fridge.

  • Can you recommend an affordable hard drive controller that will work with these specs?

    I have a Gateway FX6800-01 desktop computer. Here's a link to the specs : http://reviews.cnet.com/desktops/gateway-fx6800-01...

    I just purchased a Western Digital 4 TB hard drive : http://www.wdc.com/global/products/specs/?driveID=...

I need an affordable (by "affordable" I mean anywhere under $100) 2 port controller that will work with my PC. Also, it must support/utilize SATA 6 speeds as this is what the hard drive interface is.

LASTLY....I only have the hard drive, so I would need cables too. I would PREFER a controller KIT (one that has all the necessary cabling in it).

  • How much weight can the average basement floor (made of concrete) support?

I'm not sure if this matters or not, but I reside in Ontario, Canada. I only mention this in case our building code(s) is different from yours (wherever you're from).

Just so you understand WHY I'm asking; I plan on building an aquarium in my basement. It will be approximately 1000 gallons. My understanding is that 1 gallon of water = ~ 8.33 Lbs. So, if I build my aquarium to hold 1000 gallons, it should support approximately 8330 Lbs. (for the water alone) and let's estimate another 200 Lbs. for the wood framing, etc.

So in total, we're looking at ~8530 Lbs.

Can my basement concrete floor handle this????

  • How can I extract my video from my Sony DCR-DVD200 camcorder to digital format (such as MPEG or AVI)?

When I first purchased this camcorder, it was bundled with Pixela ImageMixer. But now, ImageMixer won't work with Windows 7.

I've also tried Cyblerlink Powerdirector, to extract the VOB files but it won't extract all the content (just bits of it). Example : After I finalize a DVD (in the camcorder), then put the disc into the computer, it sees 2 VOB files. 1 VOB file will play 5 minutes worth of video. The 2nd VOB file won't play anything. But if I play it (either on my PC or in a standard DVD player), it'll work. So the VOB files are fine. It's being eble to extract them (for editing purposes) that's the problem.

So which software will extract my VOB files properly???

  • Why is it that when I press the "DEL" button on my Aspire 5750 laptop, it deletes EVERYTHING?

If I press the "DEL" button, it will delete all text to the right of the cursor automatically, character by character (as if I'm holding the "DEL" button down). I have to press the "DEL" button a second time to stop it. Is there any setting where I can simply turn this off???

Pressing the "DEL" button should only delete one character at a time.
