  • Can I place my crock pot in the oven while it s (the crock pot) is on?

I want to use my crock pot, and I don t THINK my cats would mess with it, but cat logic, ya know? I m a little worried about leaving my crock pot on, without me at home, but preventing the cats from going into the kitchen would be difficult. Could I place the crock pot in the oven? The oven wouldn t be turned on. The crock pot would be on low.

  • Troubleshooting sewing fleece?!?

I'm trying to sew a few projects involving fleece using a sewing machine, and I'm having major difficulties.

Sometimes the needle moves along but no stitch is created, or the thread or fabric starts to bunch. Only a couple times have I managed to make a straight line of stitching, but when I pull it away I notice some thread bunching on the underside at the start.

I bought new needles, high quality thread, repeatedly checked that I've threaded correctly, toyed with the thread tension and stitch length.

I'm at my wit's end. I don't know if it's user error or the machine, and have no idea how to even determine which. Do you have any advice you think might be helpful?

  • Could you recommend a good lens for wildlife photography?

I'm currently looking at the Canon EF 400mm f/5.6L USM Super Telephoto Lens but I'm concerned that it doesn't have IS. I don't current use a tripod, though I've been thinking about getting one for limited use.

However, I would still prefer to do handheld shots most of the time. Would this lens still work well for me or is there something else you would recommend that would give me the same range under $2,000? Or am I asking too much for a cheaper lens?

How to get rid of algae in tank?

How do I get rid of algae in a tank that has live plants, aside from doing a complete make over of the tank to remove affected items? I have green/black algae that grows on plants, rocks, driftwood, and the sides of the tank very close (reminds me of lichen, if that helps). I have otocinclus and bristlenose pleco algae eaters but there's only so much they can do. I don't think they can eat fast enough to outpace the algae, assuming they even enjoy this type of algae (although they always have full bellies and I don't give them algae wafers).

I noticed something by Jungle Labs called "Pond algae relief." On the bottle it says it's safe for live plants, although the description on the website says it isn't. Can I use this in an aquarium and would it be safe for live plants?

Oh, and I have reduced the lighting, but of course I can't reduce it too much or I risk killing the live plants.

  • How do I clean my camera lens?

On many of my photos (especially when there is sky in the top of the frame), there is a smudge near the top of the picture. I know it isn't any particular lens, as this occurs no matter which I'm using. What, inside the camera, do I need to clean to get rid of that spot? I can't figure out where it's hiding..

  • Why is my Puppy Chow taste stale and chewy?

The first day it tasted great, but the second day it tasted stale and chewy. The cereal was brand new and tasted fine prior to being used in the recipe.

FYI, if the category wasn't enough of a hint, this question is in reference to the snack recipe, NOT actual dog food.

  • What kind of tree did this come from?

Can you tell me what kind of tree this small branch is from? I found some pieces of dead wood like this in a field, and I think it'd make good perches for my snakes and geckos, but I need to make sure it isn't something that could be dangerous (such as cedar or pine, although I don't think this is either).

  • kribensis tank mates?

tank is 75 gallon, drift wood, live plants, etc. Male/female pair of kribs. I've got denison barbs and white cloud mountain minnows in the tank, and everyone is doing fine. The kribs chased the barbs a bit during spawning, while the minnows are a more recent addition (but I've kept them before, with bettas, and I know they're both quick and hardy).

    Two questions:

I've been looking at opaline and dwarf flame gouramis at the fish store; do you suppose I could put one with the kribs? I've seen varying answers on this combo, and I recall from my previous krib question that krib behavior is a mixed bag. I just want to know if they definitely WILL fight, or if it's more a 50/50 shot of either fight/get along.

Also, while it's cool seeing them spawn, I really just got a pair so they'd hopefully bond, swim together, and keep each other company. I'm not really interested in raising up fry. Is there a fish I can add which could get past the kribs' defense and eat the fry. OR, if I got a betta in a separate tank, can I feed him krib fry (assuming I can catch them)?

  • Needing some kribensis info..?

I've been researching online, but I'm mostly finding general care info. I have a pair of kribs that have spawned, and eventually I'll need to find home for the offspring.

I'm trying to find info on whether multiple males, or females, can be kept in a single tank (rather than just a male/female pair). I've seen conflicting info on this. Some say males will get along so long as there isn't a female for them to compete over, but that females will fight each other?

Also, what would happen if I chose to keep some of the offspring? Would the mother/father give chase/fight/kill the offspring when they're adults, or will they all get along?

  • Game Of Thrones - the shadow monster?

Spoiler alert, I guess, though why you'd look at this when you'd be unable to answer I don't know. XD

I forget if it was season/novel 1 or 2, but Davos takes the red witch up near the king's castle during the night soon before the major battle in order to give birth to a shadow monster. What exactly did that shadow monster even do? I recall we saw the first one off Renly, but I don't remember seeing this one do anything, in the show or the book.

  • Will Angelicus Botia really eat Bamboo Shrimp?

I have a 75 gallon tank with a couple of bamboo shrimp. According to aqadvisor.com, Angelicus Botia might eat the shrimp. Does anyone know if this is in fact true? Their mouths seem too small to eat the shrimp, but I suppose they could nibble the shrimp to death if they were of a mind to do so. Has anyone kept these two species together successfully?

  • Siamese algae eater - chewing on fish?!?

My SAE seems very peaceful, but one of my denison barbs has an open wound on his back and I just saw the SAE chewing on that very spot! None of the other denison barbs have wounds. What's going on? Is the SAE hurting the barb, or is he helping somehow, like a maggot chewing away dying flesh at a wound? I'm been treating the whole tank with melafix, but I think I may need to quarantine that barb in my spare 10 gallon tank.

  • Connecting Dell Inspiron 1501 to HDTV?

Alright, so from what I've read from doing a search, I can't just use a VGA to HDMI cable, I would need a converter box ($$$). Don't want to go that route. Would this work?

I was wanting to use my old laptop, and eventually get an external hard drive, to convert my movies/tv shows to digital and watch them that way, rather than bothering with DVDs. Does it depend on my video card? It has ATI Radeon Xpress 1150.

My 3 month old kitten just started grinding his teeth together today. Is this just a sign that's he's teething or could it be something more serious?
