  • Application Math questions set up?

    I need some help setting up some math word problems (application problems). I am not looking for the answer to the solution, I am sure I can figure it out. I am more stuck on how to make them into systems of equations. Any help or explanations are appreciated. Thank you!

    1.A chemist has two solutions, one has 20% concentration and the other is a 45% concentration. How many liters of each must she mix to obtain 10 liters of 30% concentration?

    2. Ace electronics, Hi-Fi Stereo, and CD WORLD buy a total of 175 VCR/DVD players from the same distributor each month. Because CD WORLD buys 25 more units than the other two stores combined, CDW's cost is only $160 per unit. THe players cost Hi-Fi $165 each and Ace $170 each. How many plays does each retailer buy each month if the distributor receives $28,500 each month from the sale of the players to the three stores?

  • Three equation systems with a missing variable in only one system?

    An investment of 130,000 is made by a business club. The investment is split in three parts and it lasted for one year. The first part of the investment earned .8%, the second .6% and the third .9%. Total interest from the investment was $9540. The interest was 2 times the intrest from the second. Find all three amounts of the investment.

    ---------------------

    I know how to set up the sytem from there. I have:

    130,000=x+y+z

    9540=.08x+.06y+.09z

    x = 2y

    On the second equation, I times all of the terms by 100 so that I got rid of the decimals. So now I have:

    130,000=x+y+z

    954000=8x+6y+9z

    x = 2y

    I know you're supposed to solve it and what not, but I guess what I am asking is how do you do it? Do you plug in x =2y for both of first and second equations and figure it out from there? Or do you eliminate the z's and then solve?

    I'm asking because I keep getting decimals and my math professor told me that I should not have any decimals or fractions.

    Solving this with how you did would be very helpful. Thank you!

  • Algebra II Functions?

    We barely went over functions today in class, and I know how to do them for the most part, except when the problems are like this:

    The initial functions:

    f (x) = 2x + 4

    g (x) = -3x +5

    And then I get problems like this and get stuck:

    1. 3f(x)

    2. 3[f(x)]^2

    The work shown would be much appreciated. There are many problems like both of those on the paper, I would just like to see how to work them out so I can figure out the rest.

    Thanks!

  • Conic equations with an extra y variable?

    I've been trying to figure this out for awhile, I was sick the last few days of school and have no idea how to do this.

    x^2 + y^2 - 10y = 11

    I'm thinking it's a circle, but how do you graph the equation with the -10y there? How do you solve it so that it's graphable?

  • What to do before a drug test? I am clean, but I drank too much water the first time?

    I drank a 32 oz. coke right before I got the call from my employer, asking if I could go in today to get a drug test. I don't have time later, so leaving within the next few hours is a must. I had water before I left.

    Last time, I drank too much water, and the urine was diluted, so I have to go in again.

    Did I drink too much?

    I really don't want to have to do this again.

  • I'm looking for a family guy quote... Stewie is airport security and I need the episode name!?

    Stewie is apparently at airport security and some guy tries to get through and Stewie 'randomly' tags him for additional security. I can't remember what the guy says to him after, but its something like, "Bing Bing Sala Zing".

    If someone could find the quote or a link with the episode that would be great! Thanks!
