  • Where did Bertha Smith get her BA in 1913?

Missionary and prayer center founder, Olive Bertha Smith (affectionately known as “Miss Bertha”), was born on November 16, 1888, near Cowpens, SC, to John McClellan and Frances Thorne Smith. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1913, Miss Bertha worked as a primary school teacher for a year. She then went for missionary training.

I cannot find out what school she received her BA from. Does anyone know? She was actually my cousin.

  • Finding info on Dorothy Jane Krueger Smith and Clarice B. Covert?

I am a fairly experienced family researcher, so my daughter (a 3rd year law student) came to me for help on finding information on two women involved in military murder cases. These women were tried by court martial, found guilty, and sentenced to life in prison. The cases were Reid v. Covert and Kinsella V. Krueger. The Supreme Court overturned the convictions and both women went free. That was in 1956. My daughter has to write a paper on the Supreme Court cases for a class she is taking with Justice Clarence Thomas. We have found out quite a bit about Clarice Covert who murdered her husband in England, but very little on Dorothy Krueger Smtih who murdered her husband, Col. Aubrey D. Smith, in Japan. Dorothy was the daughter of famed WWII general Walter Krueger. Her life is pretty easy to trace up until her marriage. My daughter would like to know what happened to Dorothy and her two teenage children after her conviction was overturned and she want free. She went to San Antonio, TX and lived there with her father. We can find nothing at all about her life after the death of Gen. Krueger or the lives of her children. Clarice Covert also had two young male children and we have found nothing on them. We know that Clarice died in CA. Her children's names were probably Bruce E. Covert and Barry L. Covert, based on ship's passenger records for passage to England along with their mother.

I have searched everything I know to search, and that is quite a lot. Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Best Shutter Speed - Canon PowerShot Cameras?

I am looking to replace my older Canon PowerShot camera with a new one. I am looking for one with the fastest shutter speed I can get for a not so terribly expensive price. I am looking at the Canon PowerShot SD780IS, the Canon PowerShot SD1400IS, and the Canon PowerShot SD960IS. Does anyone know which has the fastest shutter speed? I am photographing a constantly moving 2 year old.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Is there any retail outlet in the Northern Virginia area that carries Blenheim Ginger Ale?

I know of several places to order online, but shipping is very expensive since cases of those glass bottles are heavy!

  • Anyone have experience with http://www.E4mall.com/?

They have terrific prices on many name brands that are probably made in China. The site is based and ships from Guangzhou, China. They only accept MoneyGram, Western Union, or wire transfer. It sounds a bit fishy to me and I am quite leery. Still, I thought it wouldn't hurt to see if anyone here had experience with them and whether that experience was positive or negative.

  • Proper HS Graduation Announcements?

My daughter went to boarding school her senior year of high school. She was number one in her class and was set to be the grad speaker. However, she made a mistake and was asked to leave the school. They did however give her her final grades through the end of the year, so she is able to get her diploma. The diploma will come during summer school in the county where we live. My question is this - we had purchased announcements - not invitations - and I am wondering if it would be terribly inappropriate to send out the announcements we have already purchased. Even though they aren't invitations, they do give the graduation date of May 23, 2009.

  • Have there been any changes to the Russian Constitution Since it was Ratified in 1993?

I have searched and cannot find any. I do realize that Medvedev has initiated constitutional changes to the presidential and parliamentary terms, but these have yet to go through the process of becoming amendments. Have there been any amendments or changes to the 1993 version of the Russian constitution?

    Thank you.

  • Are Canopies on Cribs Safe?

My daughter has chosen a nursery set that includes a canopy as an option. The canopy attaches to the ceiling and the netting flows down and around the crib. For a picture, visit:

    http://www.babyuniverse.com/Camelot-Baby-Crib-Bedd...

My daughter is concerned that the baby, once she is standing up, might pull the canopy down. In other words, she is worried about the safety of the canopy.

Does anyone have experience with this kind of canopy?

  • Looking for recipe for Portuguese Rice with raisins, pinenuts, almonds?

A friend attended a dinner catered by a Portuguese chef and was served a rice dish that she loved. She said it was white rice and had raisins, pinenuts and almonds in it. I have searched the web and haven't found one that quite matches her description. Wish I had eaten it myself as I could probably figure it out. Does anyone out there have a recipe for this?

    Thanks!

  • Hotel Recommendations in Munich?

My daughter is currently serving in Iraq and they are allowing her to go to Munich in June to take the LSATs. She has asked me to join her there. We will be in Munich from about June 13 to June 20. The test is given at Amerika House, Karolinenpl. 3, Munich. There are three hotels nearby - Erzgiesserei Europe , Hotel Amba and Hotel Pension Am Siegestor. She would like to stay near the testing center. What I am looking for in a hotel include: nice hotel, comfortable, clean, wireless internet, business center with printing capability.

If any of you are familiar with the these hotels and can comment, that would be wonderful. If you recommend something in the general area that fits the general criterion, that would be wonderful too. A hotel that has some European charm combined with the above would be a plus.

We don't ask for much, do we? <grin>

  • Question for Mac Experts?

I have always used Windows based laptops but am thinking of replacing my current laptop with a Mac. In looking at them, I see that some have the Mac OS and WIndows Vista as well. Why would I want both on a laptop? Won't the Mac OS run all of my Windows programs. Which model would you recommend? I do a lot of graphics work, run large programs - Microsoft Office, Adobe Pro, Paint Shop Pro, etc. and like to have the ability to have several running at the same time.

Any advice is much appreciated! Thanks!

I am trying to find a living Catholic historian, priest, nun, etc. who either played an active role in the US Civil Rights movement of the 1960s and Liberation Theology, or has studied and written about it. Does anyone know of someone like that? If so, contact information would be very much appreciated.

    Thank you.
