At what cost should one minor in computer science?
I'm in my third year doing a major in Applied Math, with a minor in computer science, and can barely manage the two. How do you all do it? How many hours a day does one study? This computer science class in particular commands so much time, and I will likely get a C or worse in it. Is the minor worth it if this pattern continues? Would it be better to focus wholly on the math to ensure success? Thanks for your input.
1 AnswerHigher Education (University +)6 years agoDouble major in pure math and physics?
I want to take as much math as possible (mainly pure math I know that the standard math classes are covered in a physics major but it's not enough) and am unsure about graduate school in pure math or physics. I figure the more math the better for physics, and the amount of additional time required would probably be very little, relative to most double majors. I'd say it'd make me a better physicist. What do you guys think?
2 AnswersPhysics8 years agoIs it a good idea to take physics and calculus concurrently?
I'm tempted to take general physics and calculus I over the summer, to get ahead or whatever. General physics allows calculus to be taken concurrently (otherwise listed as a prerequisite). I'm wondering how intensive the calculus is in physics, and if it's a good idea to take this class simultaneously with the calculus. I'm assuming if it's an option it shouldn't be too hard?
1 AnswerPhysics8 years agoIs it a good idea to take general chemistry?
I have never taken a chemistry course, and I'm wondering whether it's a good idea to take general chemistry from the start, as opposed to a lower level that wouldn't count towards my major. There are no chemistry prerequisites for general chemistry, but my computer science class for majors (similarly there was also a class for non majors) had no prereqs and was extremely difficult for one without prior experience. What do you think?
2 AnswersChemistry8 years agohow to deal with college depression?
I am currently enrolled in college and will have 41 credits at the end of my semester. I am depressed with my life and classes. I'm not interested in any of the classes, except for math, and am mostly unsure about a major (I declared it as physics because it's the only one I would seriously consider). I have to be enrolled now, because of scholarships and financial aid, if I want to ensure a bachelor's degree (which I think I should have). I will probably fail computer science. I hate all of this stress. I have gotten much more irritable since starting. There are moments where I will get a question wrong and I can feel this cold, tingling sensation in my nerves and am overwhelmed with hopelessness and depression. I never worked hard in high school and don't have good study habits, though I manage to get good grades anyway. I want to be engaged and naturally willing to work but I'm not and I need to know how. I feel like I shouldn't be in college right now, but I have to be if I want definite financial support (which is crucial).
3 AnswersHigher Education (University +)8 years agoIs it okay to start studying calculus?
I'm currently in precal and trig. I'm feeling very comfortable in both and was hoping to start studying calculus in preparation for next semester. How much do I need from my current courses to study calculus I? We have just finished finding zeros of polynomials, and algebra with trig identities. Thank you!
1 AnswerMathematics8 years agoWhat is required to learn topology?
I'm considering trying to learn at least the basics on my own, with not much of a mathematical background. I'll be taking Calculus I over the summer, and preparing for Calculus II through a supplementary book. Is it possible to try this junk with this little knowledge? I'd say I understand my current math easily. thanks!
2 AnswersMathematics8 years agowhen does math get really juicy?
I'm in precal and trig, which are nice, but from which topic onwards is thought required? My current classes don't really demand analysis. One could do well by simply learning the rules and acting appropriately. Which math would you say requires development of ideas? thanks!
5 AnswersMathematics8 years agoIs calculus taught at a community college sufficient?
I'm planning on taking Calculus I over the summer at a community college, and was wondering how others would describe their experience. Is it a trustworthy preparation for Calculus II? I will also be studying a supplementary Calculus book until the fall. thanks!
1 AnswerMathematics8 years agoWhich math first explores the xyz axis?
In general, which math course first introduces the xyz coordinate system? I'm too excited to wait and see for myself. :( Also, what in physics requires this sort of graphing? thank you
1 AnswerMathematics8 years agoBlack hole collapse question?
From our current understanding, is a black hole constantly collapsing on itself until
all of its mass is converted into energy? Please enlighten me
8 AnswersAstronomy & Space8 years agoI need to be great at math?
Until now (in college), I have not applied myself. Now that I am finally conscious (I have never thought of them too much aside from being school requirements) of all these subjects I see why math is so amazing, but my knowledge of the essential concepts is a bit wacky. I need to be great at math help what do I do, what resources are there?
1 AnswerMathematics8 years agoWhat makes high level math so notoriously hard?
I know this is general, as there are many different classes/focuses, but what are some of the reasons why it is thought of as hard? I'm in precal and trig right now and am planning on doing the whole shibang (math required for physics major), and would like to know what makes next level math so different. Thanks!
5 AnswersMathematics8 years agoHow does linear algebra compare in difficulty to calculus?
I really have nothing to compare it to, as I am only in precal and trig, but I'm curious as to what people think about it in these terms. thanks!
2 AnswersMathematics8 years agowhat are some applications of integration?
I know calculus is very useful, but could someone elaborate?

1 AnswerFacebook8 years agoWhy doesn't amplitude change period?
In the graphs of the sin and cos functions, the amplitude changes the max/min heights of the graph. Because the crests and troughs model the radius, why wouldn't this change effect the period, considering circumference = 2πr? :(
3 AnswersMathematics8 years agowill physics get me all the girls?
I heard physics is the best major for impressing girls, is this true? I need to find the major that is most impressive, because there is nothing else going for me, in terms of reeling them in. I will do whatever it takes
5 AnswersPhysics8 years agoWhich bachelor's degree is better for photonics?
My school offers physics with an optics concentration, which is just a normal physics curriculum with the addition of 3 optics electives and 2 math/engineering electives. Would this be more ideal, or would electrical engineering? I would graduate sooner under physics. I would be going to grad school for photonics. I'll probably do the physics major, but am just curious.

I really want to. I would not restart it recreationally. is there any reason for me not to?
