  • What advice can you please give about budgeting my time and juggling three work-related projects at once?

Hi. I want to work as a work-from-home transcriptionist but I need to train myself how to do that first. I have the equipment I need - a transcription headset and a foot pedal.

I want to learn how to voice act professionally for cartoons I want to produce. I signed up for an online voice over training program. I want to publish and monetize my own animated cartoons and comics online. I am waiting to get what I need so I can turn my den into a sound studio and work the program.

I want to teach myself how to use Flash, Quark Express, Illustrator and Photoshop - four different art programs - through an online learning system called The Metrix Learning System. This is a FREE system provided to me through my local employment center. I am going to teach myself how to use these art programs for FREE, so I can produce my own animation and comics. I need to get the okay from the head of my local employment center to use the system and explain to him WHY I want to learn these art programs. I want to learn how to use them so I can produce my own animated cartoons and comics. However with this system there is an allotted time for which I can learn the software between the time I log in and log out of the system.

I still want to learn how to use Adobe Flash even though online support for it officially ended.

    Time is an issue.

What advice can you give about budgeting my time and juggling these three projects at once? They are all work-related.

    Please help. Thank you.

  • Important decision to make?!?

So I got offered this internship that I really really wanted. I’m ecstatic right now because I was competing against other girls. It was this lady who is the owner of a small buisness and the internship is perfect for me. The only thing is that I got another job as well and they both start on the same day. I would like to be able to do both but if I had to choose I would choose the internship. I talked to my dad on the phone and he said to let the internship lady know but I’m so non confrontational and don’t want to seem unreliable. How do I let her know my other job starts the same day and that I want to still pursue the internship?

  • How do I handle this?!?

I was really excited about this internship opportunity that I was given. I’m a second year college student. My cousin told me about it and I was really excited because it sounded perfect for me. It was with this lady who has a small business and was paid and everything. Me and the lady started emailing and set up an interview and eventually we video called. I thought I did really well in the interview because I have interviewed multiple times and was prepared for all the questions. Tho only thing I was worried about was whether I had enough experience. At the end of the interview she thanked me for my time and said she would her back to me with a decision in about 2 weeks on a Monday. She said even if I didn’t make it I would hear something back anyways because she would hate to leave someone hanging. Today is 2 weeks and it’s Monday ( the day she told me she would get back to me ) and I have not heard anything all day. My hope is starting to go away and I’m starting to think I didn’t get it. She told me she was looking to choose two interns and an assistant. She has got to be out of the office by now and I’m a little disappointed and want to cry. I’m hoping maybe tomorrow I’ll here something but it’s giving me a lot of anxiety. How do I handle this?

  • Never changed address at work ?

I have recently moved into NYC. I have not changed my address as I plan on keeping my parents address. I did not change the address at my job. If I were to change addresses, I would now be subject to the NYC wage tax. Can I be in legal trouble for this, and can this get me fired from my job

  • How should I phrase this email to help me get a job as an adjunct professor?

I sent a cold email to a department head and got a really encouraging, positive response. She told me she loved my work and invited me to apply formally through the online system so they could start processing my application and see if there were any classes I would be a good fit with, but also she invited me to email the person who is in charge of the art foundations program to learn more about that part of the art department.

How should I email the person in charge of the foundations program? What should I say in the email? They have been cc’ed on my communications with the department head so they are expecting an email. I want my email to help get me a job adjuncting.

    Thanks!!

  • I want to switch career fields but all of my experience is in one field?

I’ve worked in higher education since I graduated college in 2013. I started off in admissions, worked in financial aid, I’ve worked in the registrar and now I work as an academic advisor. I even recently finished my Masters Degree in Higher Education. I’m burnt out over low pay, the politics of it all, and I’m realizing I want to be in the private sector doing something like banking or apartment leasing or basically anything but higher education. I’m striking out big time! I can’t even get interviews outside of higher ed/a university setting because all of my experience is in higher education since graduating college. Nobody will give me a chance anywhere else! It was suggested I return to school for a trade but more schooling to me seems absurd. Any suggestions? I want to change careers but I worry that it might be too late!

  • Entry Level jobs that would suit an Ex-Barista/Ex-Hospitality Worker?

As I have ADHD, I struggle to study full-time. For the time being, I need to study part-time so that I can focus on all my assessments properly and work full-time to pay the bills.

I have been a full-time barista for 3 years, but since beginning a Head Barista position at a new cafe, I am feeling completely burned out and my employer expects a lot of me. I have been expected to open and close the cafe 14 days straight with no days off, and my alarm is usually set at 5am to get to work by 6am.

It has begun to make me feel sick, tired, and overwhelmed. When I try to speak with my employer about these issues, I'm usually just met with a threat to take my job away.

I'm a very hard worker, but I would like to head in a different direction as I'm feeling quite unhappy. I only know hospitality and I'm only 21 years old, so what could potentially be a direction for me?

  • I need advice on unemployment appeal! HR lied about a no call no show...?

My employer has a zero excuse 12 point attendance policy. I have a chronic health condition that I found out from my doctor should have been covered by FMLA the whole past year that I've been having issues, she brought up FMLA when I told her I was about to point out due to the condition. I didn't get covered until I was at 11 points.

February comes and the artic vortex hit our area. On the morning of February 18 I went out to start my car for work and my battery was dead, I'm sure due to the subzero temperature. I immediately called work and let them know that I was going to be late and the reason, I figured I would be able to get a ride or a jump pretty quick. I was wrong, by 6:54 I knew I wasn't going to be able to get there by 7:30 (it's a 30 minute drive on good days and the roads were still pretty bad) so I called and left another voicemail as well as text my HR manager letting her know what happened and I understood that was my final point. She texted me back and said that she was 'sorry things didn't work out' and she 'wished me the best'. I filed for unemployment and received a letter from the state saying I was denied for 602-misconduct. My employer said that I was a no call no show on February 19, the day AFTER I pointed out! I sent in my appeal already, any advice going forward would be great!

And I was with the company for 10 years and made $65,000 yr.
