I work for an airline and my last city was Las Vegas. Nothing to be afraid of when flying. You can expect bumps, but just remember...its just pot holes in the sky. If you are flying from the east, as you fly over the Grand Canyon the air becomes unstable as you approach the valley into Vegas. It may be a lil bumpy...but it's fine. Flying in the day time allows you to see the Canyon. At night, you can see the strip. Las Vegas airport is easy to navigate. BUT unless you are flying Southwest or America West, the other airlines gates are about a mile away from the main terminal. Allow ample time to check in. Cut offs are now an hour before flight and security can be long. There are always conventions and what not, so plan accordingly. There are tons of taxi cab's in baggage claim, as you enter baggage they are to your right. Car rental is in center of baggage claim just past the George Wallace Sign. (you'll see what I mean when you get there)

The Mirage just added a new Cirque du Soleil show, so if you can, check it out. Its set to the theme of the Beatles Yellow Submarine (I worked at Mirage too).

Also be advised of the baggage policy, no more than 2 check-in and must be 50 lb or under each. Two carry on's and a purse counts as one. They MUST fit in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you, so leave the house at home and take the bare essentials.

Vegas is about 120 degrees by then, so DRINK LOTS OF WATER. You will dehydrate very fast out there. Also your skin will dry very fast. Take a really good lotion with you and moisturize in the morning and at night. Sunscreen is a must for walking the strip during the day.

The best seafood buffet is at the Rio. ITs off the strip, and on the other side of I-15, but its not far. The Palms has the best poker room (across from the Rio). Make sure to check out Bellagio's water fountains at night. There is a different show every 15 minutes. There is a new themed park there run by GM and you can take 5 new cars out on the road courses. The roller coaster at the Stratosphere is no longer running. The roller coaster at NYNY is 10x better anyway. Check out some of the off the strip casino's. The Wynn, the newest strip casino, is the only non-smoking casino.

The Hoover Dam is about an hour drive. There is a straight shot up I-95, or you can take Lake Mead Pkwy and get a more scenic route.

You can expect dinner buffet's to be about $30+ per person and a long line.

Have fun and Viva Las Vegas! You will enjoy it. Any other questions, feel free to IM me. I can tell you all you want to know about Vegas.

    No, don't be worried.

I am a seasoned "flyer", but even when I flew for the first time I found that it wasn't scary, but I did know what to expect. I'll try to explain that to you, too.

I think that take-off is the "scariest" part of it all. When the place accelerates to gain enough speed to take off, there is a lot of pressure, and your plane seat will slide back a little bit.

When I flew with my sister, who was flying for the first time, she was very intimidated when the flight attendants came around and discussed emergency procedures. Don't worry- that's just a precaution and a liability. The airlines HAVE to for legal reasons.

When the plane is flying (for the majority of your trip) you'll feel nothing. Turbulance is overrated- the only time I have ever experienced troublesome turbulance that was "scary" was when I was flying into Salt Lake City in the middle of winter. Cold weather accentuates turbulance; but this time of year (and considering your destination) I doubt that you will experience this.

Lastly, when the plane begins to descend into the airport, it is very gradual. The only way that I can ever tell is that my ears start to "shut off." This is by far my biggest complaint about air travel, but it is something that many people don't experience at all. Just in case, bring along some chewing gum and something to drink (bottled water, soda, etc.). Both of these activities will help relieve the pressure in your ears.

Other than that, enjoy the flight! If you can , get a window seat... I think that watching the amazing view is distracting from the flight itself. Sleeping can also help to make the time pass more quickly.

    Good Luck!

I found a trick for releving the ear pressure pain. After taking scuba lessons, I realized that the same technique for decending works on the plane.

If your ears start to feel clogged or painful, hold your nose tight and blow until your ears pop. I use to have major problems flying. No longer.

I hate the take off also. For this reason, I prefer the small planes because you do not feel the force of take off.

When you land in Las Vegas, you will definately experience turbulance. The hot ground of the desert makes it an extremely scary place to land. This is normal, so when the plane bumps around, don't think you are history.

My first experience with this was on a Pan Am flight to Germany in 1974. I had no one to tell me turbulence even existed. I was so scared, I wanted to take a boat home the entire 2 years I was stationed over there. I still have not gotten over it.

Believe what you will 1) Training practise it would seem 2) If you're into conspiracy theories it's all part of the plans of the New World Order America needs to be taken care of at some point as it's a superpower and that's why the government has been changing laws to allow the president to break the constitution and declare Martial Law when he wants to and give them greater power to spy on their citizens

The part that's scary about flying, is the take off. But once your in the air, it's o.k.. When your plane first starts going down the runway, it goes super fast, and you can feel it. It's a rush, but it's totally fun! I'm flying back to Calif. in 9 days from Idaho. I haven't been on a plane for years, but once you've flown, you don't forget what it's like. It's alot more faster and more comfortable, than sitting in a car for hours and hours. And..it's alot more scenic, unless your above alot of clouds, then all you see is clouds! Well, enjoy your trip. Vegas is way cool!

I love flying- its like nothing else in the world- take off and landing are sometimes a bit nerve-wracking for some people, and you may get ear-ache from the pressure- but once you're up in the air its great. I always think there wouldn't be so many people wanting to be pilots and stewards if it was such a bad thing- and they do it for a job!

So, I hope you have safe journey and enjoy it!

    BON VOYAGE.

It would be a pleasant experience. If at any point say while take off or landing time you feel as if stomach caves in dont worry just for a minute you may feel so. Follow the instructions of the flight attendants. Read the safety instruction cards but by reading it dont worry about emergency landing instructions right now!!!Relax. Till you are airborne you may feel tense but then all is normal.Have your seat belt always.

The take off is pretty cool and flying can be good and bad. Turbulence sometimes is a little scary but just think of it as riding in a car when it's windy :) Plus flying is safer than driving :)

I loved the feeling of weightlessness when the plane was airborne. It does get a bit boring on a long flight. If they give u good food and u r able to listen to good music, the time passes.

It's pretty boring! Bring an MP3 player or whatever and some snack food. The only uncomfortable part is when you are landing and your ears start popping.
