What have I done to my wrist?
I couldn't kick the ball back to my daughter as I had flip flops on, so I hit it voleyball style. Unfortunately, I missed my palm & used only my wrist to hit it.
Straight away a lump formed on my wrist and by god it hurt. My vein fekt like it was gonna pop out!!!
It is not broke as I can move all my fingers and type without any problems. It hurts when I try to grip things and the lump has not gone down. It is strated to bruise and I have a tingling sensation down the left side of my wrist.
I don't want to wait in A&E for 5 hours as it will be full of drunk football fans & sunburnt kids.
Any idea of what I could have done?
I'm not thick enough to be asking for a definite diagnosis, I'm just wanting to know if anyone has had the same experience & what was their diagnosis.
P.s I'm not too old to be asking htis either you cheeky git!!! If it was one of my YOUNG children, I would take them straight to A&E without hesitating!!!!, but as it is me not them, I will see how it is in the morning as A&E is full of people who may need urgernt attention & mine is not urgent.
THANK YOU.

Funny you should say that you hit it like a volleyball, I had this same injury from a volleyball. My diagnonsense,...in simple terms I bruised the bones, pinched a nerve (thus that lovely tingling sensation that will abate after a day or so), and broke a cluster of blood vessels, thus the resulting lump. Do not fear, it will heal, but it will be mildly painful and aggravating for the next week or so depending on how fast you heal,...I found that putting an ace bandage on it worked fairly well to keep me from strainign it.
And as with most things like this, the injury will fade, but the embarrasment seldom does,...hope you had better luck then me and just hurt your arm,...because at the time of my injury I dived for the volleyball and my pants split straight up the back,...hehehe

It's probably just soft tissue damage. If you can move all your fingers it's probably nothing serious. The tingling is because the nerves in the wrist are very superficial and can be damaged easily. You've given the nerve a good thump and it's a bit sensitive - it should ease within a few days. The bruising will probably get worse over the next few days before gradually fading, and the swelling should gradually fade as well. The standard treatment for swelling is rest, ice, compression and elevation. So don't do the things that make your wrist hurt - avoid gripping things - put an ice pack on it and get a tubi-grip or some other form of strapping. In terms of elevation, if it's really bad, stick it in a sling, otherwise just leave that part out! Take some anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen to help ease the pain and swelling.
If the pain gets a lot worse, or the tingling stays for more than a couple of days, or if you become unable to move your fingers normally, see a doctor. Otherwise, you're fine to just treat it yourself at home as I described above.

you bruised it good for sure, that's probably the lump. the swelling could be putting pressure on a nerve, hence the tingly feeling. put ice on it, and use a pressure bandage to wrap it up when you're not using the ice. Make an appointment to see doctor asap for a thorough exam, to make sure you didn't do any serious harm to it. Don't use it if it hurts too bad! Good luck, sorry for your pain.

I could be muscle, tendon, or nerve damage. Make a regularly scheduled visit to your doctor, just to make sure if heat or cold would be the best thing to put on it and how long he thinks it might be until you'll be back to your old self.

Nope, i understand not wanting to go to the emergency room, but it sounds bad, and probably not many of us here are Dr's, and if any are, it probably wouldn't be too responsible to try to diagnose something in a forum like this. Any walk in clinics available? If not, go to ER. Good luck.

there is a tiny bone in the area that u hit the ball u may have damaged that ice and strap it up should help with anti inflamitory painkillers if its still painful tomorrow seek medical help

You may have damaged a tendon, if its not so painful that you dont need to go to A&E I would see your doctor at the next opportunity to rule out any serious damage.

It might still be broke. I've broken a few arms and can still use my fingers.
If it's still no good tomorrow get it x-rayed. Put ice on it in the mean time.
