Have you ever called the police for help...and were treated horribly?

Yes, I live in NJ and was having trouble with an ex-boyfriend once. He was pounding on my door and saying he was going to kill me, so I called the cops. When the cop finally arrived (about 20 minutes later, in a very small town where there was no valid reason for it to take that long) he said "Yeah, I got a call your boyfriend was knocking on your door." When I told him what was really happening, he said, "Yeah, yeah, he was yelling at you," as he wrote his notes. I found out later he never even filed a report on it.

Then, I found out that a cop member of his family was advising him on just how far he could go when it comes to harassing me without getting arrested.

And then cops wonder why people have no respect for them.

I live in MN and usually I haven't had any issue. But, a few years ago when I lived in Roseville I called the cops about a domestic disturbance next door(I lived in an apt). The cops came and banged on the door but the abuser would not answer. So, they come banging on my door all mad like I made a fake call. I moved shortly thereafter. I'm all for protecting battered women, but you can't MAKE a person leave-can you? I called the dispatch after he police left and told them how they had put me in a real bad situation and the lady just ragged on me for being afraid and "not wanting to protect other women". I was disappointed by the whole thing.

Yes!!! In Folsom California many years ago I was attacked in a night club. Someone come up behind me while I was at the jukebox and made a comment he heard I was a "f a g", I turned around, smiled and asked him who had said it, (I thought it was all a big joke, I ws there with my wife and another couple and a female friend!) About that time someone to my left said I did, as I started to turn my head to see who said it, he sucker punched me in the jaw, then the guy who started it punched me square in the face. I run out and called the cops. When they arrived I tried to tellthem what had happened, it was very hard to do because my jaw was hanging at a very weird angle. The cop went in for a moment, then come back out to see me, I told Officer Cunningham that I wanted them arrested and that I needed to go to the hospital. He told me that if I tried to have them arrested then I wasn't going anywhere but to jail for petty theft, (they claimed I took a quarter off the jukebox that was theirs). About that time the Sargeant arrived and asked me if my jaw was broke, I told him I thought so and I needed medical attention but the other officer wanted to put me in jail. He let me go to the hospital. While the other officer arrested my wife and friend for disorderly conduct because they were having a fit over them not arresting my assailants. The local hospital transferred me to the UCD Medical Center via ambulance for a jaw that was fractured in 3 places including the hinge, and a crushed nose. I later discovered that one of the assailants, (the one that broke my jaw) was a reserve Folsom cop, and the other was well connected in the community.

i haven't called them but i had an experience face to face with a cop. i live in maryland and i was lost one night in baltimore city trying to get home from a friend's house. it was probably 4am and a cop had passed me when i was at a red light so i tried asking him where to go to get back to my part of town and he just said "oh you'll be fine" and drove off. no directions, no concern, nothing. i was nervous too that early in the morning and being alone. i don't know why he acted like that, i guess he just didn't care.

The cops around me (Philly suburb) are actually pretty good. If you feel a cop is being disrespectful though, get his/her badge number and/or name and call the department to talk to the head guy/lady and report him/her.

Yes I have experienced an officer who was full of himself, and wasn't going to help me nicely!
