UPROMISE - Does it work?

Yes, it does. Though we didn't amass thousands for my daughter's education, we did add up enough to pay for her books in veterinary school. It doesn't cost anything, and it's painless to simply register your credit cards and/or grocery cards. We never bought things just because UPromise gave us extra for doing so. We just did our usual shopping, and the money gradually added up. GM just happened to be coordinating with UPromise when we bought our Chevy, so we also took the extra minute to send in the info for that and got a few hundred extra that we never even planned. Bottom line - it costs nothing, it's easy, and it does bring rewards for educational expenses. It's as close to a something-for-nothing deal as you can get.

We have been using upromise for a couple years. It is not going to save all the money you need to send your kids to college. However it is free money for products that you purchase on a regular base. I don't buy items I know we don't like just because we would get money. I also make sure that if I am shopping on line I go through the upromise link.

It does work, but you have to buy the products that have promised money towards this program. The program enrolls manufacturers and credit card companies to donate a portion of the sale towards your children's future education. If your child is young, by all means start an account for him or her. When I signed up my 2 kids, I also tried to sign up my step-daughter. But she was too close to college age to start an account for her. Unless they've changed that, I'm not sure. But yes, it does work when you buy the products and use the services that are included in the program.

I've saved a few hundred dollars over the past few years and do most of my online shopping through the website. It's not great savings if you ask me. You are better off opening an ING Direct savings account. It's just like the savings account you would have at a bank except the interest rate is now over 4%.

Upromise has helped drop intrest rate on my student loan quite a bit

I signed up last year, I've got almost $5 in my account for my daughter. As for how you actually get the money later, I have no clue yet, or if you even do.

Yes. I mean you have to wait for it to roll into a college fund, but it is the real deal.
