How can I keep my cat from wandering the neighborhood, she always finds a way to sneek out.?

I try to keep her in but somehow she always manages to get out. My neighbor has threatend to call animal control if my cat wanders into her yard once more.

I agree with the microchipping...all animal control people check to see if a cat is microshipped before they do anything with it. Also, if it is microchipped and someone thinks it is a stray and tries to keep her, the vet will tell them that this cat is not a stray. As far as the rooming...do you have a garage? Sometimes we let our cats "sneak" into the garage. They think it is the most exciting thing and do not try to go outside. Not sure if it would work for you but that is what works for our kitties!

I have had problems with my own cat attempting to escape. It can be a real pain.

If I know that there will be a lot of people in and out, she has to remain locked in a different room, or part of the house. When I let my dogs out, I use the garage door so that if she does get out, it is into the garage and I can put her back in before opening the outside door.

What it comes down to is responsibility. Allowing your cat to escape is dangerous to your cat's life, as well as a nuseance to your neighbors and passersby. You don't want to have to scrap your cat off the road. Do whatever YOU have to do to keep your cat indoors. If you can't manage to do so, maybe you shouldn't own a cat!

Do you know how she is getting out of I'm assuming the house? If she is sneaking out when you open the door make sure she isn't around before opening the door if she has figured out how to jump up and open the screen door I would lock it also keep all your windows closed cats can rip screens and get out that way.

If she is a outside cat and you have a fenced in yard there is no way to keep a cat in a yard.

    Good Luck

Whenever the cat wonders off find her and lock her up for atleast an hour. Give her a light flick on the nose and say NO to her, this way she knows she has done wrong. I did this to all my cats and they never wondered, if they did when they saw me they came quickly running back to the house! Also she could be on heat so if she is not desexed get that done

Obviously neutering the cat will help. However with my cat he still did it even after then. The only thing you can try is making the house exciting so the cat doesn't want to go out i.e scratching posts and (dare I say it!!) little gyms. It doesn't have to be anything sophisticated, but something to keep the cat amused and stop the wonderlust.

If your neighbor wants to be like that, and you can't stop her from getting out, make sure you get her micro-chipped for starters. Make sure she has her rabies shots and is registered. And give her a collar with the rabies tag, her name and your phone number. But make sure it's a "breakaway" collar so she doesn't get snagged on something and choke. And call your neighbor a ***** too. It's a cat! It's not like a cat can damage her lawn.

keep all doors and windows shut. provide her with a happy indoor life. If you're leaving the house, close the cat in the laundry or bathroom (with litter tray, water & food) until you return.

my cat never wants to go outside, she is a 24/7 indoor cat and PROUD of it :) just takes a little re-training.

    Put her on a leash
