Why are so many young girls worried about being fat?

The reason girls think they are fat is because they see the supermodels on TV and magazines who have make up artists to make them look like that! And in magazines they get airbrushed! No one looks that perfect, and the sooner you accept yourself for who you are the happier you will be.

I am despairing over my 10 year old daughter, who has a perfect figure and she thinks she's fat.

I mean, she's 10!!!!!

I think it comes down to what the kids absorb these days - every other commercial is for some sort of weight control product pushed at us by a stick figure with a huge head.

All attention is directed at the outside appearance, and the skinnier, the better. It's no longer the heroin chic, it's "I haven't eaten in 2 years" chic.

All examples of beauty are emaciated, on bony legs and protruding joints.

So no wonder girls are obsessed with being thin!

i would rather they be worried then ending up being fat. ok girls look at your mom.. if she is size u want to be at that age then dont worry but if she is not the size u want to be than do something that your mom is not doing. dieting, eat fewer than 5 meals a day, exercise, and/or stop drinking diet drinks and drink water.

if you saw my picture, you would think i was fat, so maybe you should stop generalizing. Besides, most people find thin people more attractive than fat people, and also, plus clothes just cost more money.

Take a look at the stick-figure models in all the teen magazines. They read those and think they have to look like that.

Because of the outrageous pressure from the media to be stick skinny like Paris Hilton.......

in case you havent notice, paris is not hot like she use to be, if she ever was, she is not the only heiress and wont be the last or the richest, she pays photographers to take pics, of her because the "fascination" people might have had about her, has died wayyyyy down

The media is at fault. Every were you look all the "beautiful" girls are skinny. We need more role models for our girls that are normal looking, like Raven for example.

Preach it Cara! This is making me SICK! Stop worrying about it and about what other people think and STOP ASKING!!!!

becaue tv, magizines, and most of soco=iety in general is looking at them and saying why dont you look like lindsay, or chrisyina or blah blah blah. they feel all this pressure to be something they dont have to be.
