92 Honda Accord. Automatic Transmission problem??

My husband replaced the shift cable. From what I was told the linkage has to be adjusted. Anyway, now when I drive my car, I can't seem to find the gears right. When I move the lever to R for reverse it seems to be forced when I accelerate. When I put it in N it goes into reverse, D4 is now N.. and so forth.. Does anybody know what this is?? Does anyone know what an estimated cost might be? I don't want to take my car to get it fixed and be overcharged cause i'm a woman.

Update:

When I'm driving the car, the engine seems to be really forced and I notice that sometimes when I take my foot off the gas that the RPMS don't go back down to 0. It takes a little bit for it to go back down.

Update 2:

*** To the person who asked where my hubby is and why he can't fix it or that I don't trust him to fix it. He is in Mexico now tending to a family emergency. He would have fixed it if he was here.

If your husband replaced the shift cable, why can't he adjust it?

If he can't or you just don't trust him to work on your car anymore, take it to the dealer.

It is very possible that either it was not properly installed or the part that was installed could be defective.
