Why does my cat stay away...?

from the other family members in the house. He will only come to me and only lay on me. My husband nor my kids haven't done anything mean to him. He just stays away from them.

Update:

He is 3 years old. We have had him since he was born. And he has always been an indoor cat.

Because you are his mama and he loves you so much.

You are the one who really shows love and care to him..

Cats are unique, just like human..know who we like, and who we don like. I have a female cat and i know she loves me as much as i love her. She always accompany me when i walking around my neighbourhood..when i come back from work, she come running to me and show her cute face..she's okay with other people include my boyfriend..she eat what other people feed but she will always come to me at last..you should feel grateful cos your pet loves you and i believe that pets also pray for us, the one who love them!!..ahhh...i love my cat....

I have six cats, they are all friendly, but cats are like people some I like others not so much, but as humans we try to be nice. But as far as cats go they pick and chose also some cats are a one person cat, I would not take offense. I really think it is the one person thing, I have had cats like that, I would not force the cat, maybe in time he or she will be more tolerating of others, but then again they usually do not like to share, especially people, I think they think they own us!

Probably because you are the main person that takes care of him. A few things you can do, are have other family members change the litter when hes watching, have others feed him etc. Stuff like that. Another option is to put him in a crate/carrier, and put it in a room with all of you. Maybe not pay that much attention to him, but just enough so that he can sit and watch all of you and learn that y'all arent so bad. It could be also that the others move to quickly and that fast movement scares him. Another option, is to take the cat you and say 1 kid in a bathroom and shut the door. That way theres that single interaction and he cant escape. But if he shows signs severe fear, let the child out but you stay in with him so he can calm down with you. Or try to calm him down with the child in with you.

Hope ive been of some help.

Cat's tend to pick out a favorite person... even if there are only two people in a house... It's not that they don't like the other people, it's just you have been chosen as it's favorite... So they tend to give 90 to 100% of their attention to you and not others in the house... If you are not at home for a while they will pick a substitute for you until you get back home...

Maybe because the other members of the family doesn't show love to the cat that is why your cat comes to you only. Besides, she/he is your cat naturally your cat is more closer to you than to the other members of the family

That's probably because you stay around her most of the times. You must be a house wife. And as your family members are not abusive towards him, it means that the only reason it stays away from them is that he sees you more often than them.

Lots of cats don't really like little kids or men. NOT ALL CATS. So don't anybody get offended. Cats are really senstive in all areas. Men often have deep voices that cats feel threatened by. And it doesn't take much of anything to get a cat not to like you or to be afraid of you. I have a cat that's the same way. So, just love him and enjoy him, and they can get a dog.

Sometimes animals play favorites... especially if only one person is responsible for meeting that pet's needs.

    For example:

Who takes care of feeding the cat?

    Who gives it fresh water?

    Who cleans it's litter box?

If you are the one taking care of these things then the cat will respond by being most affectionate and comfortable with you. After all you are the one meeting it's needs.

This can be helped by giving other household members some responsibilities with the cat. Or make one person a designated treat giver for a week. He will warm up to the rest of the family when he has to rely on them.

    I hope that helps. :-)

    Good luck.

Cat's are territorial and he has chosen you to be the main care taker and he gets the most attention from you. What may help ease the family is to get another cat and let all of them change the food and water and clean the liter box.

Cats will bond to one person. Usually the one that takes care of it at or near the time of birth. They will tolerate others, but not bond with them. I have two cats. Both of them are bonded to me.

They are outside cats and they have the freedom to roam that Cats need. If they are not home at dinner time, but within earshot, I whistle and they come home. I live in a Townhouse complex so they have a lot of safe roaming room. I was always a Dog man, but I took these Cats, to save them from being killed. What they politely say (Put to sleep.)

They give a lot of love.
