Why does my indoor cat throw up every day?

She's a year and a half old and I only feed her Purina Cat chow Indoor formula, at the same times daily. She's been on this food she she went from kitten to adult food, and I'd say within the last 3-4 months I've noticed she vomits up, excuse my analogy, a turd- like mass composed of digested cat food at least once a week. Is this normal?

She may have hair balls. Get some hair ball remedy gel or food for hair balls.

Out door cats eat grass outside and that helps them throw up the excess hair they get from cleaning themselves. Indoor cats don't get that/

My cat does the same thing. This is a hairball, and it is very normal. I started feeding my cat the same thing and it has helped, but it's not enough to curb the entire hairball problem. Indoor cats are constantly bathing, and if you don't brush your cat every day, then it's going to do that. The best thing to do if you can't brush her frequently, just I like can't...lol, would be to find some hairball treatment. You can get it in treats or in a tube to rub on her paws to lick. If you give her this with the food, it should cut down on the problem a lot. She will still do it occasionally, but it will be a lot easier for both of you. If she continues to do this after treatments for a few weeks, you should probably take her to the vet, cause there could be an underlying problem. Just keep an eye on her and if she is doing it more than once a week or shows signs of constipation and the treatments do not help, it could become a serious and painful problem for her. Good luck.

I have read the others posts made so far. It is not normal for anyone or any cat to vomit up their food. When this gets excessive the cat or human can have esophageal damage from the stomach acid.

Purina is a simply awful food. I think that one has its first two ingredients as corn. Cats need quality meat protein in their diets. If she has developed an allergy to corn (and it is a common allergen for cats and dogs) then you should try a food that has no corn and better quality meat protein. CA Natural is chicken and rice. If you were to use that you would be eliminating a lot of possible stuff that could be upsetting her stomach. You must introduce a new food slowly(click on my name for a recipe to do this). It should take about three weeks of mixing to get to the new food completely. If this works for your cat there are many other quality foods that do not use corn in their formulation. Natural Balance, Nature's Variety, Innova Evo etc.

If the chicken is the culprit it gets a little harder. Natural Balance has a venison and pea and there are veterinary formulations using duck and rabbit as the protein base for the foods. Those can get expensive as it is not economical to raise these critters for a large scale food company.

If she always upchucks in the same spot, then get some puppy training pads and put it down there. She may not move the pad. But you need to institute a grooming plan, since long haired cats are high maintenance, as regards hair balls. The best thing to use for your cat has prongs on one side, and a brush on the other side. The prongs are good for getting off undercoat, and the brush side for surface fur. Often, it seems to get worse when you start, but it soon levels off. Continue with the hairball remedy, which are flavored greases to ease the passage of the hairball. Combing and brushing is a good bonding experience, and I would do it as often as she lets you.

I know you got a lot of answers but I'll tell you the real reason why your cat throws up everyday. My cat had the SAME issue and it turns out feeding your cat the same brand for longer than 3 months can cause your cat to have food allergies and throw up all the time. You have to switch up her food to a different brand and your cat will stop throwing up just like mine did. Switch up to different brands every 3 months!

My cat does the same thing and when I start to worry about the duration of the spells, she will give me a hairball. Then she is fine for a couple of weeks or so, and we go through it all over again. I feed my cats the same as yours. The male rarely vomits, but the female, her fur is coarser. I think that is her problem, even with combing. So once a week, or if they need it, I give them Whiskas Temptation Hairball Control. Good luck!

This is not normal. There may be three main reasons for your cat throwing up everyday 1.) It may be the food that you are feeding your cat, . 2.) Your cat may have a behavioral problem or you cat may have an infection. Try a different brand of quaity food. If this does not change, then you should take you get to a vet.
