When is a question not a question...?

Is there anyone else in this forum who's sick to death of the Hate-filled rhetorical questions designed just to rile people up?

Examples:

Pro-choice vs. Pro-life

Religion vs. evolution

race-baiting

Calling members of one political party or another "Nazi's", "Communists", or "Satan-worshippers".

Why would someone post such junk unless it is simply to inflame and agitate others? Shouldn't civility play a part in keeping this forum from becoming just another ugly "flame" war?

I think it's just a basic human need to be expressive, whether intellegent or not, lucid or not, polite or not or just plain nasty-natured. Although this type of forum does allow some anonymity, I have no problem in making my profile public. For you see, I have the courage of my convictions, beliefs and customs to be secure in who I am. Therefore, I view this type of outlet to be very important, and I go to lengths to keep it civil; although, I have to admit, that sometimes, it gets pretty difficult to do so.

I try to be passionate without being hateful. I try to be expressive without being condescending and I try to be helpful to someone who may be in pain and hurting from the depths of their souls.

That wrong or hurtful remark, however "innocent" or "funny" it may seem to me and you, it just may be the final insult to someone whose life has been a horrible dump, and that remark could be the one that pushes someone over the proverbial edge. I, for one, would never want to be responsible for that. I love and respect humanity too much.

I have been called a hypocrite for professiing my Christian beleifs and seemingly contradicting them on some, highly-charged issue (illegals, for one). I have compassion, a lot of compassion. But I do have a sense of honesty, integrity and honor that requires me to "tell it like I see it" in every situation, and if that comes across as hateful, I apologize, for it was never my intention.

Source(s): PS: erica_m16 and Oobily Ghepp, you two understand! You need to be applauded for your sincerity and straightforwardness! As you can tell, I am pretty long-winded at times (well, most of the time, actually!) Sorry....!

You forgot to mention serious questions that get met with insults. Often people hardly read a question and respond with nasty replies that have little to do with the question.

I agree with you. I think people feel like they can stir the pot because they feel they are anonymous.
