Here is another receipt-----------Oatmeal-Banana Cookies 3/4 cup shortening-1 cup of sugar(or you can use light brown sugar instead)1 egg beaten 11/2cups flour 1/2 tsp baking soda-1 tsp cinnamon-1 tsp vanilla-13/4 cups oatmeal-1 cup mashed banana-1/2 cup raisins or nuts(or both) Preheat the oven to 400degree F combine all ingredients. beat well until thoroughly blended. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls about 11/2 inches apart onto greased baking sheet. Bake 12-15 minutes Yields 4 dozen. I eat lots of oatmeal and used to make quiet a few oatmeal cookies (i even added coconut) Hope this helps.

If it looks like it isn't instant oatmeal (if it looks like a sort of hard, dry grain instead of soft, fluffy flakes), put four parts water to one part oatmeal into a saucepan, add some salt, stir it, bring it just to a boil, and then partly cover it (put the lid on slightly to the side so that steam can escape) and cook it slowly on low heat until the water is absorbed and it isn't too chewy. Stir it once in a while. I can't tell you exact times because it varies with the type of oatmeal, but when you think it's about ready you can taste it. If you want to use a non-stick pan it's a lot easier to clean up. I think it tastes better if you take it off the heat after it's cooked, cover it, and let it sit for five or ten minutes. Good luck with it.

I just made myself some oatmeal and it was really good.

I used 3 1/2 cups water. Bring the water to a boil then add 1/2 teaspoon salt, 2 cups oats and 1/4 cup raisins. Cook over medium heat for 5 minutes. I like my oatmeal with butter, sugar and a little milk.

You can half this for a smaller portion.

    **if its instant oatmeal:

    For thick oatmeal:

Boil about half the water the instructions on your oatmeal packet tell you to put in.

Put the oatmeal in. Cook until oats are soft and the oatmeal has congealed into a thick form.

This can be eaten straight away as it does not need to "set".

    For moist oatmeal:

Add twice as much water as oatmeal. Yes, it is the reverse!

Stir well during to cooking to prevent lumps from forming.

When the oats look like they're cooked, pour into a bowl.

Allow to stand for 3 - 5 minutes while it "sets". It will form a skin across the top and be delightfully moist and soft underneath.

try this cinnamon-raisin version for varietyif you got quick-cooking oats: Serves 4.

    1/4 c. packed brown sugar

    1/2 tsp. cinnamon

    3 c. cold water

    milk

    1/4 c. chopped nuts (optional)

    1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg

    1 1/2 c. quick-cooking rolled oats

    1 c. raisins

    1/4 tsp. salt

    Instructions

STEP 1: Combine oats, raisins (or other dried fruit of your choice), nuts (if desired), brown sugar, cinnamon, salt and nutmeg. Set aside. STEP 2: Bring water to boil in a medium-sized saucepan. Slowly add oat mixture to boiling water, stirring constantly. STEP 3: Cook for 1 minute, stirring. STEP 4: Cover, remove pan from heat, and let stand 1 to 3 minutes, or until oatmeal is of desired consistency. STEP 5: Serve, if you wish, with milk, or simply

    Microwave

place 1/2 cup oats into a deep dish with water to cover, a pinch of salt - not too much and micro for 1 minute, stir and micro another 1/2 minute, this depends on the amps of your machine, you may need a little more or less time.

    Stovetop

follow the same as above but stirring on the stovetop

then put milk, fruit, sugar, [I prefer honey} on top and enjoy

to make creamier use half & half

    good luck

measure out some oatmeal in a bowl. Then add twice as much water. Microwave on high until done. Watch carefully as it might boil over. And stir and let set 2 minutes before eating.

With 3 cups of water brought to a boil lower heat and add 1 1/2 cups oatmeal.,2 pinches of salt simmer until you have your desired texture. ( In my own recipe I add canned condensed milk, brown sugar and Cinnamon. after it's done I add vanilla and margarine) I know this is a high calorie meal, but my children have never refused it yet.
