Teachers do you know, or care, that your pupils are not doing their homework?

If you switch your attention to the "homework help" section of this site you will no doubt recognise some of the work set by you for your students to do on their own at home. By asking Yahoo Answerers to help them are they "playing the game" or do you care?

As a teacher i am required to set homework, i do record who completes the tasks each week, but quite frankly i dont care if they are doing it themselves, getting help to do it or not doing it at all! i have told them they have the responsibility to decide if they do their homework, i explain the reasoning behind setting homework (creates good study habits, revision of work, skills practice etc), but really it is up to the student and their families to decide if it gets completed

I know and I care. But I like to think that by explaining how to get the right answer themselves instead of just telling them the answer I may help pupils to understand the work. It's only really like them looking it up in a text book or asking a teacher to explain something to them. Surely not all homework should be treated as a test. And anyway, I'm grateful they took the effort to do it at all - it could have been binned on the way out of the classroom!

They ARE playing the game, but they'd be the same kids to play the game differently if Answers weren't available. The way I see it, these are the same kids who will continually fail in other aspects of their life because they're not willing to think for themselves. In essence, they'll get what's coming to them in the long run....But I don't personally assign homework that can be answered through this type of forum, and I'm pretty sure only 2 or 3 of my students could even figure out how to use it (they're 9 year olds), so I'm covered. :)

    Yes, we know.

However, homework is assigned to help the students, by giving them opportunities to expand their understanding and insight, not to give teachers something to do. If students to not take advantage of it, or cheat, that has absolutely no bearing on the validity of the help made available to them

In the best of systems, homework should be assessed, but not evaluated (that is, while strengths and weaknesses should be indicated and steps for improvement set out, the work should not have any bearing on final marks). It has always been the case that students cheat...but in the end they are only cheating themselves.

i comprehend who does their homework and who would not. the only person who suffers is the student. My each and on a daily basis grades (in college artwork) and verify out account for the better factor of their grade. I very hardly positioned homework assignments as grades in my e book because of the fact many times, if it is not yahoo solutions, that's the mum and dad, or siblings doing the artwork. We verify homework at the same time interior the mornings so childrens can see their errors and ask questions and then I many times supply a speedy 10 concern (conversing in math extremely) task that reflects what became envisioned of them interior the previous night's homework. If somebody else helped them, it would not take long to determine it out.

Usually homework is not a large part of a grade. They are only cheating themselves, and when a test comes up, we always know that they cheated because they cannot reproduce the work. Also, some smarter kids use the answer to check their work, (in math) or work backwards to solve the problem. I have no problem with this. It is a process of learning. You are responsible for yourself, and what you do.

I care when students are not doing their homework; however, when I assign essays they tend to be highly specific. Thus, cannot be purchased on-line.

Worksheets tend to be independent practice of skills recently taught; so as long as the kids were awake in class, they should have no trouble completing the work.

I teach eighth grade American History and English.

    Good Luck....
