Resistance: fall of man Church of England dispute?

I think everyone who regularly watches PS3 news will know about this but for those that don't, I'll give a brief summary...

The Church of England attacked Resistance: Fall of Man because the Manchester Cathedral was used in the game without their permission. They demanded an apology, an immediate withdraw of the game from shelves and a donation to the church.

Anyway, what do you guys think of this situation?

Who's side are you on?

Should Sony have apologised?

If the game isn't withdrawn and the Church sue, who will win?

etc...

The Church should thank its lucky stars that it was not portrayed in a worse light.

Simply, Sony used the images without permission from the Church of England.

If a film maker wanted to film the exterior of your house whilst making a movie, the production company would, at the very least, ask your permission. More likely they would have paid you as well for simply living somewhere they wanted in their film.

The fact that Sony did not see fit to do so should be taken as amazing arrogance, and the Church is completely within it's rights to ask for compensation in the form of a donation.

If the Church sue, the Church will win, because Sony acted without the express permission required.

Surprisingly, given my standard religious standpoint, I support the Church on this one.

Resistance is one of my favorite games. I don't understand what the Church of England has against fighting aliens. According to the official website, Manchester Cathedral is open for public tours. So it is not like going into someone's living room. If anything, the Church Of England should thank Sony for the advertisment. As to who would win the lawsuit.....I don't know but I'm on Sony's side.

I would be on the churches side, but this is really petty...

I think if this is what the Church is concerned about, out of all the issues going on in the world right now, they are in trouble.

I also think that this is such a petty issue. It is a church in a video game. Wow. I think they should be spending more time trying to reach out to people with the gospel rather than pouting about a church in a video game.

Well, all of the violence is directed at the Chimera, an invading species (probably alien), so it's very different from a situation where there is just random violence against humans.

The irony of a Church railing against violence is amazing, considering the history of religion, especially in England! People complain that video games encourage violence, but how many people were killed in the world today because of video games, and how many were killed over religion?

OK So I'm going to create a paedo game and skin it with the inside of your house so anyone recognising it will associate you with child molesting. Are you going to let me get away with it?
