I sprained my ankle or broke it. How can I tell the difference?
I rolled it while playing softball 3 days ago. It feels really good if I don't put to much wait on it. I wasn't able to stand for the first 2 days, but now its getting better. When standing, it clicks alittle and feels loose, but, doesn't hurt. Its black and blue on both sides and still kind of swollen. How can I tell if its broked with out spending the money on doctors. And please, don't say "go to the doctor" I have heard that a thousand times, I just want to know if there is any other way of testing it before I go to the docs.

Even if you didn't break it, you may have injured the tendons/ligaments in that area.
Either way, it needs to be iced and braced to limit the movements and elevate the foot. And stay off it as much as you can for at least a week.
A good home made brace would be to cut off the top/front part of a boot then wrap your foot in place. Or buy a brace from a medical supply place.
Also, try soaking it in hot water for about 15 minutes then while still in the water, slowly rotate the ankle and extending the toes forward and back at least twice a day.

properly, the reality which you will circulate it up and down and side to side is definetly a robust sign that there are no torn ligaments or different important injuries.. idealy you're able to splint it, positioned ice on it and save it extra beneficial. additionally you're able to be able to desire to take some IBprofrin to attempt to shrink the swelling. yet, you may fracture a bone and nonetheless be waiting to bypass it around. i could say if the discomfort hasn't decreased interior the 1st 24 hours or so, you're able to probably get an xray to income. in case you permit it bypass and it is not basically a sprain, your ankle could heal and not using a forged or boot and you will finally end up with issues in a while such because of the fact the bone being very susceptible on the sight of the wear the place as whether that's wisely cared for, it may easily be more advantageous interior the destiny on the sight of harm.

I badly sprained my ankle about 3 weeks ago. I was in a hurry going down the stairs, lost my balance and landed on a bad side of my left foot, causing my left ankle to be stretched going on the inside. The first 48 hours were excruciating and the pain was un-believable. I've never had a serious ankle injury before.
So I immediately treated it using the RICE method. The following day, the bruising and swelling were so horrible. I found out that I got a second degree sprain and immediately panicked after that. I had a football game on that week and it been looking forward to it because I've been training for rt. I had teammates that had similar injuries and it took them months to fully recover, some of them stopped playing altogether. So I kinda had a short-term depression because I can't imagine myself not being able to run and play sports anymore.
Because I was so desperate to recover again, I contacted a lot of people that I know who do sports and asked them if they had similar injuries. One friend of mine, from the boy's football team in my university, told me about H.E.M. Ankle Rehab. I got a copy 4 days after I got injured. I immediately read and followed what was instructed and felt improvement on the first day. I was able to walk a bit, but I was in pain.
A couple of days after that, the swelling and bruising were subsid-ing significantly and on the fourth day, I was walking comfortably again. Although I've had felt a bit of stiffness, I continued doing what was instructed. My sister was surprised that I have recovered this fast. I told her about this book and was shocked on how effective the procedures were. I'm just so happy that this book was shared to me and how effective it is.

Generally if you can stand on your ankle at all it is not seriously broken. There may however be a fracture and you can either wrap your ankle and apply ice to ease the swelling and try to give it some support. If serious pain persists for more than a few days afterwards then it should be looked at.

There is no way by just looking at it from the outside. It could be anything. Pulled or torn ligaments or tendons, slight fracture, break, really bad sprain. You just never no until ou have xrays. I have known people that couldn't walk and they just had a sprain and then others that were walking around with a break. You just can never tell.

Sorry, but I honestly don't think there's any test you can do yourself. An x-ray is the only way to tell for sure.
Maybe wait afew more days to see if it gets any better on its own.
Good luck
