New York health officials banned trans fatty acids from restaurants saying that they pose health risks........

So, now that the New York health officials are up in arms about what we put in our mouth, when are they going to get up in arms and ban America's favorite drug, alcohol? Will there be a Mothers Against Trans Fatty Acids (MATFA) aligning themselves with Mothers Against Drunk Driving to make sure that those intoxiticated with Trans Fats won't get behind a wheel and threaten the life of others out on the road? Will "Trans Fat Abusers Anonymous" chapters and support groups pop up in every city in the US for those who are having a hard time breaking the trans fat habit? Will families break apart or will people lose their jobs from self medicating with Trans Fats?!

If the government had had the good sense to keep this drug illegal many of our society's problems would not be so rampant. The government had the good sense to make pot illegal, yet no matter how many problems alcohol creates in our society they allow the continued use of this drug. Where are their priorities?

Prohibition was tried and failed. If you were to study history, you would see that.

You seem to want a "nanny state" to protect people form choices. Government has too much control now.

Why not allow people the freedom to make choices that they feel are right for them? Oh I know, they may not make the choices you want them to make, so rather than trying to persuade them that you are right, you want to impose your views on everyone else.

Freedom allows us to make choices. Communism and Socialism want to control those choices. You may want to rethink your opinions, or move to a country without freedom!

    A) I think the new law was idiotic

    B) Alcohol shouldnt be abolished, it didnt work the first time, and it definitely wont work now. There should be a regulated HS class on the negative effects of alcohol, or it given more time in the General Health Ed class required in HS... too many "gloss over" it's effects on the human body. Maybe get a recovering alcoholic in to each class... or a person with liver failure to come in.

    c) Pot should not be completely illegal. Maybe regulated, but not illegal. It has many less negative effects than alcohol.

Many many many people use alcohol responsibly. Its just the bad apples that give it a bad name. Trans fat cause many deaths a year and people have no way of knowing if its the fast food they eat since they are not required to post that information in stores. It is estimated that by taking trans fats out of the diet of americans it will save around 100,000 lives a year. This is also a HUGE cost to the american people in medical bills and tax payers money since heart disease is the number one killer right now. Alcohol is not. There is the priorities right there. I think going after the number one killer of adult americans, heart disease is more important then going after alcohol wich is waaaay further down on the list of top killers of adults.

Every journey begins with a single step. governments are becoming increasingly involved in health issues. Who knows what may be next

I say the ban is good, if americans can't prevent themselves from rolling out of restaurants something or someone *had* to step in, and if you ask people, most of the food that had trans-fat used in them tastes .. the SAME!!

Oh and I say they legalize weed kthnx.
