De-clawing of cat question??? Soft Claws? Soft Paws?

OK It's not really a questions so much as I wanted to tell everyone how amazing these soft claws or soft paws are. They are plastic rounded soft tips that get basically superglued ti the end of your cats claws and make them incapable of ruining furniture or tearing human flesh. I was sooo close to declawing one of my kitties becuase I could not break her of the habit of attacking PEOPLE with her claws. I hated the idea of declawing, because I think it is torture and mutilation but then thanks to someone on here I tried soft claws, or soft paws and they have made me and my kitty very happy ( she doesn't even know she's wearing them ). They have been on for one month and work wonders. Is there anyone else out there who uses them and has anything they would like to say about them? Hopefully people will see this and spare thier kitties from being declawed.. But spare thier furniture and flesh at the same time :)

Update:

As for where to get them, I saw them for sale at Petsmart but they cost about 21.00 dollars ( they have enough for about 4 months worth ) But you can get them much cheaper on ebay or other web stores.

For the first aplication I called around to groomers and found one who puts them on and she only charged 13.00 dollars and provided them for me ( great deal I thought ) and did it that way becuase this kitty is kind of viscious and I was worried I wouldn't be able to do it myself... Most vets and groomers know about them and can refer a person to someone who can put them on for you. Now that she has them on, if one falls off I think I can replace it myself because she can't hurt me with the rest of her claws... Plus they gave me clear, but I want to get the fun colored ones - that way I can clearly see when one comes off and I will have a stylish kitty :)

Yeah... I love the product too... I use soft claws on my cats and I love them... I get mine off line at www.safepetproducts.com and they are really pretty cheap and they come in a TON of different colors. You can get the small pack (4-6mon) for $14.99 and then shipping is only a $1.00ish so it is still cheaper than a pet store and you can get all the colors, red, purple, blue, pink and so on. I have recently decided to get the larger pack, which is an 18mon supply for $45.00 and it is well worth it.

I only have two cats that wear them. A frontdeclawed male who wears them only on his back paws, so I don't even go threw 1 in 2 months.. And another male who wears them on all his feet and he hardly goes threw any of them.

I just went ahead and put them on myself. It is so easy to do it and it is far easier and way cheaper just to do it yourself than worry about a groomer.

    They really are great products....

Oh and I don't have a problem with my cats bitting them off. My older one will bite at them when they are first put on. But i will hold him for 5 min after they are done and he leaves them be after that. As for eating them and/or getting sick from the glue, it doesn't happen.

I raced to answer this post to tell you how cruel de-clawing was. Thankfully I read about these soft claws.

Declawing is like cutting off finger tips!

Actually a friend of mine keeps talking about declawing her cat and it's really irritating me. I was wondering where you can get some of those soft claws. I'd really like to tell her to try it out. I have never heard of them and I think they sound fabulous! :)

I got these for my cat after she kept using my new black leather couch as a scratching post. She did nothing but bite on these things and had all of them off within 3 days. She was miserable. I ended up getting a scratching board which I keep near my couch and that has solved the problem.

Good for you for looking into alternatives to declawing! For those who do not want or cannot afford Soft Claws, you can also clip your kitties nails with a regular nail clipper.

I'm so glad you didn't declaw the cat! You had me worried.

We got cardboard scratch pads and the cats love them. I just told them to leave the things alone and don't touch them (scratch the couch instead). The way they look at me when they tear up the cardboard is great.

i am so glad that you put out a post! my boyfriends mom had his cat de-clawed and now the cats wants to go outside and they let him! if you de-claw you cat (which you shouldn't) DON'T let it out! it can get hurt and it is your fault because it CANNOT defend it's self!!!!!!!! try soft-claws or train the cat with a water bottle. i have 7 cats and training can be hard, but i believe it is worth it!

you can also get them at vets or smaller independant pet stores..

I prefer to shop at the independant stores who REFUSE to sell pups... and find often they are cheaper than the big box stores becuase big box have huge over head and head office fees etc...

dont put them on back claws.. only front.

I have heard good things about them I am thinking about getting them for my two kittens. I am so glad you love your pets so much. I don't know what I would do without mine. they are like my children. They are good for your health also. they can lower blood pressure. They are such good company and so loving. God Bless you for caring so much.

I'd be concerned about my cat ingesting some of the product, or the super glue, when grooming.
