Has anyone used dry cat food called "Taste of the Wild" ?

This was recommended at PetSmart because people have raved about it. My cats love it. It's a grain free food.

Formula with roasted Venison, smoked Salmon, also peas, sweet potatoes, fruits, ocean fish meal, chicken fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols, and many more ingredients and vitiamins. Taurine is 0.15% mimimun.

Next question for your answers: My one cat is only a meat eater since 4 months old when I got him from the shelter. I mix the dry food, I just mentioned above, with good canned food and he eats it.

Question: He still loves cooked chicken livers 3 times a week,

He also loves cooked turkey and chicken--he gobbles it up. He is not fat, but has always loved this kind of food.

He will sit in front of the refrigerator until he has his chicken or livers. He has to have it.

Is this okay in moderation?

Any comments on either or both comments.

    Hi

Glad your cat is a meat eater. After all he is a carnivore.

Allthough the brand you bought sounds like a quality food for a dry food, your cat would still be better off with quality canned foods. More on that in a sec

too much chicken liver isn't great. cats need more of a muscle meat then an organ meat to get their proteon

Nothing wrong withturkey and chicken a few times a week.

Something you may want to consider that sounds like right up your alley , is a raw food diet. I will have a link on how to make one below.

    Now about that dry food

Nutrition since there are so many bad things out there is very important to your cat’s health

Contrary to what you may have heard, dry foods are not a great thing to feed a cat.

Dry foods are the number 1 cause of diabetes in cats as well as being a huge contributing factor to kidney disease, obesity, crystals, u.t.i’s and a host of other problems. Food allergies are very common when feeding dry foods.

The problems with it are that they are loaded with carbohydrates which many cats (carnivores) cannot process. Most of the moisture a cat needs is gotten

out of the food and 95% of it is zapped out of dry foods in the processing. Also, most use horrible ingredients and don't use a muscle meat as the primary ingredient and use vegetable based protein versus animal. Not good for an animal that has to eat meat to survive.

You want to pick a canned food w/o gravy (gravy=carbs) that uses a muscle meat as the first ingredient and doesn't have corn at least in the first 3 ingredients if at all. Fancy feast is a middle grade food with 9lives, friskies whiskas lower grade canned and wellness and merrick upper grade human quality foods. Also, dry food is not proven to be better for teeth. Please read about cat nutrition.

Yes, that's fine. I wouldn't feed the liver any more frequently than you are currently because too much vitamin A is toxic. But 2-3 times per week is fine.

As for the meat, that's GREAT for him! It would be even better if it were raw though, so long as you're sure it's great. Since you're doing this on a regular basis, you should consider buying organic or at least hormone and antibiotic free chicken.

You ask: Is this okay in moderation?

My Opinion: Yes...you seem to know what to look for..weight gain...It sounds like you are a loving cat owner...what a lucky cat!

Here's some more info on the cat food you mentioned, if other readers are interested. I also included the FDA Cat Food Recall List.

Made with real roasted venison and smoked salmon, this formula offers a taste sensation like no other. For today’s healthy cat, this formula is supplemented with fruits and vegetables, providing natural antioxidants to support a healthy immune system and overall good health.

GREAT!!! It's not on the FDA recall list...
