Strange cat behavior?
My cat is 3 years old. I found her at approximately a week old. I've raised her along with my 2 other cats for the past 3 years and over these past 3 years I have noticed repeated strange behavior. For instance, she could be sleeping and suddenly wake up growling and hissing. If I talk to her or approach her she freaks out. She swats at me sometimes and tries to bite me if I attempt to touch her during these fits. I've tried many things like squirting her with water when she has these fits but that doesn't seem to work. Then I thought she was bored so attempted to spend more time playing with her thinking that would wear her out some but that doesn't seem to work either. Lately (as of within the past week) I have been feeding my cats the Whiska's Cat Treats and now she constantly wants me to feed her those instead of regular food. Tonight she had another fit because I didn't get them for her again...atleast that's all I can attribute it to. Please help me figure this out? I'm lost.
My other cats are older and don't bother her. That is what is so confusing. She isn't being neglected or mistreated and all my cats seem to get along with one another for the most part. I don't know if maybe its a jealousy issue as one of my older cats does spend a lot of time with me, sitting on my lap, following me from room to room, etc. Could this be a sign of jealousy? Should I take her to a vet? Could she be bi-polar? I just don't know. Help!!!
She was spayed a couple of years ago. I thought that was the solution too as I had originally thought she was in heat. After she got fixed it got worse.

A few questions..is she allowed outside or an indoor cat? Some cats personalities completely change when they are allowed outside..many house cats can adapt to living inside..others never do and these temperament problems can be the result. (much experience of this making dramatic changes from temperamental /aggressive/moody, picky eaters to happy healthy loving moggies!)
Also dry food can affect some cat's temperaments, due to the added colours flavours and even vitamins which are usually chemical based.
If you feed her dry feed, try her on wet food only for two weeks, no dry cat treats.
See if this helps.
Also cats get bad tempered or tetchy when they have pain so she maybe could do with a thorough overhaul from a vet?.
She maybe getting minor epileptic type fits, or similar, and feeling pretty bewildered, so continue being kind to her.
It is very difficult with cats to always know what the problem is but love is usually the best approach and if a cat doesn't want touching or loving I would look to a health problem first.
I don't think your cat is going mad or has a problem with you. I think you are a very loving person to be so concerned about her problems and if you persist in showing your love, even gentle talking to her on a frequent basis if she doesn't want to be touched will help her recover from whatever is the trouble but please do get her checked by a Vet if the problem persists.

Very hard to figure out animal behavior, especially since you don't know how she was born...I have a cat too and suggest you make sure to show her who's boss. Does she like to be around you? If she hisses like that maybe pick her up and put her in a room by herself...try to get away from those whisker treats...not good for them just to eat the treats. The behavior could be for some mental issue you'll never know about...so try different things and see what works best. But definitly don't let it to continue to get more aggressive. Take control. They will push you to see how much they can control.

I don't believe that that is strange behavior. My cats get in those fights to. Like when i want to pet her and she doesn't she will bite me. And this cat is a cat we found on our farm. So I found her as well. But my other cat is a complete opposite. but I don't think you should be too concerned. Maybe try to find more ideas of what you can do to calm her down?

if she was only 1 wk old when you got her then she did not get the nourishment and vitamins from her mom's milk to have her brain develop in a healthy way. it is a proven fact that the babies get the nutrients from mom's milk to help them develop. Have you talked to your vet about her behavior? If not then you need to. I don't want to diagnose this, but it sounds as if she will be this way the rest of her life. Treat her like a kitten all of the time and try your best to train her gently as she will not understand harshness. Best of luck to you and thank you for taking her into your home.

I love my cats, but when they get in a fight with me, all hell breaks loose!!! I know that cat may seem cute and innocent when they're begging, but eventually the begging will get very annoying; trust me I have 3 cats too! Stop feeding them the treats, and if you have to, ignore them. They'll realize that your upset, and keep trying to get your attention. Cats are like that.

Her behavior is consistent with a cat who hates its owner.... hissing at you, swatting at you, growling.... yes that means that she hates you...
you should kick her out.....

Is she fixed? Maybe she is in heat...I dont think giving her cat treats will make her act that strange...gee, i dunno! How puzzling...all I can think of is that if she is not fixed, she might be pregnant or in heat....
