He wanted to love us. He also wanted us to love Him back. Given the fact that Adam and Eve fell and, as a result, we are sinners, our mission has become a little bit more complicated and harder---to glorify Him by loving Him back and loving our fellow human beings as ourselves. In another word, to build a Heaven here on Earth during THIS life.

Read His Word, the Bible and you may begin to find the answers you are seeking.

I am not a huge fan of Rick Warren, but you might also find his "Purpose-Driven Life" relevant to your question. Please don't stop with that--get back to the Bible, because Warren can get you side-tracked if you aren't careful into worshipping his little system (and lining his pockets in the meantime buying his products!) instead of focusing directly on God.

Edit: KK D, thanks for the message--my answer stands to others posting and reading responses as a good starting point for figuring out an answer if they don't already think they have it figured out! God bless you!

He created us so that we may be the objects of His love. He created us to have a relationship with Him. He created us for His glory and our joy.

He created us to worship him, through doing good and staying away from evil. He is testing us to see who will follow the right path and who will stray.

HE created us for His pleasure.

Rev 4:11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

    What GOD wants.

Deu 10:12 And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul,

Deu 10:13 To keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good?

The main idea I get from religious people is that God wants us to "keep him company" in the afterlife. Why does God need company? I haven't got a clue.

Maybe it's just some sick twisted game he's playing with us. I can see him right now, "Yes, slave children! Bow down to me. I am your master! Accept me or burn forever."

We are here to serve and love the Lord, everything we do without the Lord is in vain. He is everlasting, this world and our lives here are not. :)

he didnt, humans made that up to make ourselves feel better and think that we have a purpose in life, but we dont, we are just animals that are smart enough to compare ourselves with other animals, drawing these broad distinctions and making others think that we are not animals, but we are. and when we die we die, no heaven or hell, no soul, just cells ceasing to function, as we decompose. ITS called nature, we are a part of it.
