Christians, how do you do it?

Seriously - how do you keep your faith when it seems like the whole world is losing their mind? I know a few christians and I really admire their unwavering ability to believe in something unprovable. This isn't meant to antagonise, I'm just always in awe that a section of society can be so steadfast in the face of so many questions. I'm still trying to figure out this whole religion thing for my own peace of mind as it's something that means a lot to me. Any comments greatly appreciated :o)

It's hard to cope with this world, but Christianity was really a community religion when it started... and it still is. People work together to bring good (although they may fail) and suffer together when they must. It is hard, but it is the love that the Christians share with each other. Also, Christianity brings an image of "a world of shining hope for you and me"... (pardon that Romeo and Juliet reference). Yes, it is a religion for everyone... and to know that a higher being will always be by your side... and to know that there is truly a reason to live rather than just spend life idly by... to emulate Jesus's love and the acceptance of everyone... there are so many reasons why Christians simply keep their faith. There are things to look forward to in the end... and the more they suffer, the more they get. It sounds like a selfish ambitious goal, but it really isn't because a true Christian will sacrifice themselves before others, and is willing to help everyone else see the light so they too will receive the reward from the Lord of most high. Now, we see the atrocities Christians committed in the past and even now, but they are not the types that you would want to look up to. There are some truly faithful Christians out there... although I have yet to find one in anyone I know... or myself, for that matter. Because it is a religion based on love, acceptance, and community... that's how Christians keep their faith.

However, those who do not keep their faith simply deserted Christ for the world, but they too can come back. Jesus is accepting of everyone... and the fact that there are many things to look forward to in heaven is the reason why the Christians are faithful.

"Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Hebrews 11:1

This ability that you speak of Christians having is the gift of peace. It can only be obtained by faith. And it is the certainty that even though the world is a cruel and unjust place, there is a Higher Power who is in control. If you are truly trying to figure out "this whole religion thing" then the best advice I can give you is to pray about it and pray with your heart open. If you seek for the truth, you will find the truth. I hope you find the peace you are searching for soon. God Bless!

To some it may be unprovable, but to me I see proof all the time. It may come in answered prayers. Or it may be just that inner gut feeling that everything is going to be alright and that everything happens for a reason. It is a gift from God. The Holy Spirit who lives within us is a promise of things to come. He brings hope when nothing else can.

It may seem that the whole world is losing their minds but the vast majority are, I believe, sane, good, everyday people who are just trying to figure out this thing called life. That is a journey we all share together.

You say, "unprovable," yet I don't think I could continue if it WAS indeed unprovable. It is the fact that I have found solid proof that enables me to withstand many an onslaught. One of the most interesting as well as encouraging proofs comes from Bible prophecy being fulfilled right before my eyes. But there is also a great deal of encouragement from the fact that God's Way of life is right and good; it would indeed be the answer to most people's troubles, if every one followed it.

Religion, for me, has never been about believing everything the Bible says or reading it literally. It's not been about being "born-again" or anything like that. It's always been about believing in the good in people. I try to see that in people.

Being a Christian is very different for me. I have always viewed God as loving everyone, and hating no one, only things that people do. I think the world has become a mess, but I always believe that people can make it better if they choose to. I think that Jesus' teachings were to always reach into the margins, to the people who are struggling, and to help them. It's a task that seems impossible, but I think if everyone helped, it could be done.

There are lots of unexplained things in this world. My father passed when I was 14 (I'm now almost 19), and I definitely experienced things that are supernatural. Trust me, I used to be one of those I'll believe it when I see it people, but I really believe everything in Christianity now. Everything can't be a coincidence. It just seems that there are too many references and other things that relate to the bible, that it can't not be true. How would Christianity be this huge if it was just made up? You have to figure it's big for a reason.

My friend, faith is a personal thing for an individual.

It is the individual whom is going to answer to God.

A christians life or a person who follows christ and living a christ like life which stated in the bible is lead by the Holy Spirit whom God sent to be in his or her life every day and that person to follow the Holy Spirits commands which is by the word of God, by what person thinks, what the heart yearns. 1 Corinthians 1:30. 2:9-16.3:16. 6:19. 5:57-58.

Faith is obeying and hoping in the lord for that eternal salvation. God has never lied - Revelation 21;2-3.

My friend, you see, it is not the things of this world that matters that we should worry about.Galatians 5:1, 16,25.

    6:9-10.

God is our only hope in this world.

Decide whom you will serve today my friend.

Your decision will determine your destiny.

He gives you peace when you ask for it. I am never alone. He is always with me. Everlasting life or heaven becomes secondary. It is my relationship with him that I put above all.

The whole world is going to be a very hard place to live soon and the problems that will confront us will be impossible to deal with. If you have a problem with your new house, you go to the one who built it. Will we call on the builder? Do we know who the builder is? Do you have a bible? With that and seeking him you will come to the same conclusions that others before you have.

I really appreciate your openness to know more about Christianity. From a Christian's point of view, I can tell you that I have questions as well but that doesn't hinder me from believing into Someone who's greater than my questions. I put my faith in God even though sometimes questions go unanswered because I believe that God is wise and He knows what's He's doing. Imagine if God does everything that we want Him to do? Then it becomes a created god not the God who created us. I pray often asking Him that He would not let me let go of Him. I know that He won't let go of me, but I, being a human, can sometimes forget what He has gone and just backslide and go my own ways. Besides who's to say what I can and cannot do? (if I do things on my own). It's really amazing because God gave us the Holy Spirit to help us in our journey..I wonder if you understand who He is. Basically, God gave us the faith to believe in Him and the grace to continue to believe in Him. He's someone that we can believe in not something that we can believe in. He's as real to me just as a human being even though I can't see Him. There's a special relationship between Christians and God that someone outside who doesn't have a relationship with Him will not understand. He really gives us the grace each day to live on. Besides, He's the giver of life, who can we go to if we don't believe in the One who made us and understands us? Other people might have opinions about God, but from my experience, I can never let Him go because He will never let me go. I might forget a lot of things, but for now, I hope this helps you. I pray that God would direct your path to Jesus Christ, the one who can bring us back to the Father Himself. At the end, only God can give us a mind of peace despite what's going on around us.

Read the fathers love letter. It is with verses on how much He loves you.

Another book that helped me was "Power of a Praying Woman" by Stormie Omartian

When you pray a peace beyond our understanding fills us up and that is the Lord.
