I may have broken the top of right foot/middle toes; can't get to Dr. until next week. Interim help?

My right foot and middle right toes have been aching since I undertook a massive lawnmowing session a week ago. I thought the foot was just strained or some muscles pulled, but the pain gets worse as I try to walk and now it even hurts when I'm not putting weight on it. If it were a strain, it'd feel better by now. I suspect a fracture or break, because it feels much like the character of pain I had when I broke the big toe on my left foot many years ago (I also walked on it for awhile before realizing it was broken.)

Can anyone suggest something that can get me through the weekend (which includes travel and a convention) so that I don't make it worse before I can have it looked at? I will not have the means to get to a medical facility before my trip. Also, when I broke my left big toe before, they could not do anything and merely gave me a stiff shoe and told me to keep off it. Any suggestions appreciated!

Sunshine is right, there basically is nothing you can do for toes. Just wrap, if you have sandals that are lose that might help instead of trying to put a shoe on. Ice it, you can soak it in ice. Then go the heat and switch off with ice. Ibuprofen or what ever type of anti-inflammatory you have. If all else fails try going to the ER, just in case you might have broke it up above your toe also. If this has happened you need to see someone right away, as bones have a tendency to start healing on there own, and sometimes they have to be re broken. Keep your foot elevated to keep the swelling down. When I broke mine they said to have it 24 inches above the heart, it keeps the swelling down. Prop up a couple of couch cushions under your leg to keep you leg up at night, or sleep in a recliner with pillows under your foot. Ice 20 minutes, then heat for 20 minutes.

    Good luck to you.

Sadly the only thing you can really do is splint it to keep it from moving. You can tape it to the toe beside it with surgical tape. You can also take a preparation with aspirin or ibuprophen (any anti-inflammatory) to reduce the swelling. You can also apply ice. When you see your medical professional, they will give you another stiff shoe and basically the same advice. Not much you can do for broken toes.

Poor thing! There isn't much they can do, they don't usually set it or anything like that...if you have a regular doctor call and see if they will give you a prescription for a pain killer for the trip...that is going to be miserable wearing a shoe! You can put a warm compress or heating pad on the foot when you are back at the hotel...or soak it in warm water (as warm as you can stand) with some Epsom salt in it...could be arthritis too...but it is going to be miserable (yeah, thanks for the encouragement right?) lol...

Are you able to breastfeed?? My baby is 4 months old, and I have been breastfeeding her since day one. We don't spend any money on formula, and I really don't know much about it, but maybe you can try to breastfeed. But if you haven't been, then you probably don't have much of a milk supply. Can you ask someone to lend you some money and pay them back later??
