Is this GREAT news? Bringing the Tasmanian Tiger back from Extinction...?

I can't help but to want to try to bring back recently extinct animals.

But this is on a continum with all kinds of genetic engineering. I am uncomfortable with the "frankenfoods" they are creating by slicing pig DNA into tomatoes, for example.

I can't help but to think that re-created extinct animals will be flawed somehow. The first ones will not be raised by their natural mother, for one thing. So they will not be socialized properly. Almost all mammals and birds get socialized into their societies.

I think that nature has a wisdom that humans shouldn't tamper with. Perhaps it's way to late, we started tampering back with the invention of agriculture. And agriculture is not the big advance it's made out to be, it brought class society, poverty, disease, ecological disruption.*

So I have mixed feelings about this. I would solve the problems of the world through a drastic decrease in human population** and a return to more nature-friendly systems. But the world does not seem to be going that way.

Yeah I don't have a problem with it if it's anything like the same methodology being considered to save the northern white rhino from going extinct. As for the prehistoric animals, if there is an ecosystem available that will support their needs and if their presence is not a negative thing for other people or animals then I suppose it's fine.

The only thing I'd say is that if the process required to create healthy animals necessitates "mistakes" that create animals that are miserable due to defects etc. then it would be unethical. But if the animal welfare issues (not just of the creature being bred) are taken into account at all stages then I think it's fine.

I'm all for it, I've always wanted to see a Do Do bird. Mel Blank used to have them as cartoons on the Luny Tunes. They are very interesting and entertaining birds. They are like the comic relief of the animal kingdom.

I'm very exited about it. I saw the video about the Tazmanian tiger a couple of days ago. I think its awesome . Many of these animals desapered bacause of human actions, so i think its right to bring them back to live.

I consider myself a religious person and i dont think its wrong, i think scientists are doing the right thing, even if they try to bring the dinasours back to live.

I would support saving any species. As for bring back extinct species, you have to do that very carefully. As someone who accepts science (evolution) I know that introducing new species can alter an environment and cause more harm then good.

I think when humans destroy a species, they reduce the genetic legacy of the planet.

So if we can restore some species we destroyed, that could be a good thing, yes.

As others have pointed out, it would have to be done only after due consideration.

I think it kind of cool to bring back a extinct animal, Yea i read that same article not to long ago. as long as they keep those animals in a safe. and dont let any out. I know we shouldnt play God, that sense it wrong but it could us one day.

it is a double edged sword,where do,s it stop. Bringing back ancient forms of humans. AM all in favour, of bring back some extinct forms. We just have to be careful
