Anyone planning to vote R?
If you are, thanks! For keeping the dream of $10 a gallon gas alive!! The GOP just blocked democratic legislation that would have taken back some of the record profits WE'VE paid to the oil companies to do some good for US, the American tax payer and gasoline buyer. Wake up! The Republicans are NOT for you and me! They are for big oil!

Hello my naive friend.
Let's review some FACTS about the price of gas:
1. We have plenty of oil. There is not s supply issue.
2. If we drilled in places like Anwar (which the Democrats always block), we could get off of foreign oil and prices would come down accordingly.
3. The value of the dollar has a huge impact on oil prices as so many other countries economies are tied to it and it keeps plummeting.
4. The government came up with the "brilliant" idea to divert crops from food into ethanol in an effort to reduce emissions. Unfortunately, it doesn't have a huge impact on emissions, causes fuel efficiency to go down significantly and adds to the cost. We should all push to eliminate ethanol from commercial gasoline TODAY!
To address your question - It's mostly because of our Government's incompetence (and largely the Democratically controlled Congress) since they control the rate of tax, came up with the ethanol idea, refuse to drill in Anwar, and can't control their spending which drives the value of the dollar down.
Oil companies are the DISTRIBUTORS of oil. Don't confuse them with the SUPPLIERS. Sometimes they are one and the same, but often not.
Oil companies typically gross about 19% on the price of gas, so that's hardly highway robbery.
I agree that Bush has not been a great President, and that McCain is not a perfect successor, but if you want to see your gas prices go down, DO NOT VOTE FOR OBAMA!

The democratic congress controlled the price of gasoline and has created the current problem
Before we had the Democratic congess we had Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high; Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon;
Since voting in a Democratic Congress in 2006 we have seen:
Consumer confidence plummet;
The cost of regular gasoline soar to nearly $4.00 a gallon;
Unemployment is up to 5% (a 10% increase);
American households have seen $2.3 trillion in equity value evaporate (stock and mutual fund losses);
Americans have seen their home equity drop by $1.2 trillion dollars;
1% of American homes are in foreclosure.
The big oil companies make 4% on a gallon of gasoline, the government with its taxes makes 15%
The Democrats won't let the oil company drill off the coast of Florida, but China going to do it.
The Dems don't want drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, but the Mexico can; The Dems don't want drilling in the Artic, but the Russians can
The lastest vote that was rejected by the GOP, would have done nothing, it was not a tax on direct profits but rather on windfall profits, which the companies do not have a material amount. Windfall profits is NOT direct profits,
Currently the oil companies pay more in taxes than they do in profits.
All the immature, uneducated Liberals are spouting the Liberal theme - it's big oil's fault not ours. It would better if you got you information correct and look at reality

Yes I am voting McCain if Obama is the Dem. nominee. If Obama gets elected, he will raise the taxes on many big businesses and the cost will be passed onto the consumer and probably affect the employees as well. I do not like paying for high gas prices, but we have it a lot better than other countries who are already paying more than $10 a gallon.
The Dems. are not the only ones at fault here. Every time the Federal Reserve cuts interest rates, it decreases the value of the dollar. When that happens, the oil companies raise the price to keep up with the profit.
Supply and demand is also affecting the prices. Although Americans are cutting back on oil consumption, other countries are increasing theirs. Because of the boom of businesses in countries such as China and India (thanks to NAFTA and American companies relocating to their countries) , these people have more money to spend. Many families have bought cars that could not afford them before. They are using more gas, so the demand has increased.
If you don't like the price of gas, don't buy it or drive something more fuel efficient. My husband dumped his big extended cab truck last year and bought a used small compact. I got rid of my SUV and bought a small car. We both have motorcycles and bicycles. We heat our house with a wood furnace. There are ways to cut costs, you just have to apply yourself.

Please try to learn something about economics. $10 a gallon gas will occur if we continue to block any effort to use the vast natural resources available within the boundaries of the U.S. We need to tell the environmental extremists to go climb a tree and use what we have available here. We have vast oil, coal and natural gas resources available throughout the US. The oil companies have a profit margin of 8-10% right now. It's not an obscene amount and forcing them to pay more in taxes won't decrease their profit margin, it will just cause them to increase the cost of gas in order to cover the cost of the additional taxes. Democrats are idiots. If they hadn't continually blocked any effort to drill domestically over the past 30 years, we wouldn't be dependent upon a bunch of international thugs to support our energy needs.

I am going to. The Democratics are nothing but a bunch of Goverment that wants goverment to run everything. They don't want us drilling here or there, they are scared a bug or polar bear might die, in the mean time while gas is going up, and people are trying to make ends meet, they worry about a polar bear how sad. I care more about us. There is more than enough oil in this land. But I guess if you want to pay $10 a gallon, maybe we can ride a polar bear to work. I can't remerber if she is the governor or senator from alaska, she is sueing the federal goverment so they can drill ther.

FYI...If we force the oil companies to pay higher taxes, how do you think they'll get that money back?
Sure, the government will get a little more money from the oil companies...But then WE (the American people) will have to pay the oil companies more when they raise the price of gas to offset their loss
Use your head...Think for yourself, rather than just repeating propaganda

I plan on balloting for nearby referendums that effect my city/county/state rules. Presidents are chosen via the electoral college. Electors can and have voted against the favored vote in the previous.

Inaccurate, tax the oil companies and those costs will just be handed down, economics 101. Purchase a hybrid, ride a bike, car pool, walk more but please refrain from making comments with no merit or thought.

Ron Paul is a Republican.
And who do you think would have ended up paying those taxes? They'd be passed on to us.

Get this concept through your head. Whenever the government increases taxes on ANY type of business, said business will raise it's prices to cover the tax. So in the end, we are the ones who pay the added tax. No civilization, ever, has taxed itself into prosperity.
